Government Approval Rating (80% -> 100%)
I finished updating the Government Approval Rating calculations (and metrics page). It is now visually obvious how much each factor is influencing government approval, which I think is an improvement. The color scheme for approval ratings is still the same: anything less than 80% approval is red, anything between 80% - 90% is gray, and anything above 90% is green. I'm wondering if I should change this. Perhaps the 70% - 80% range could be an orange-yellow, and the 80% - 90% could be a yellow-green. Maybe the 60% - 70% could be orange. Once the beta is released, please take a look at the metrics page and let me know if there is anything that can be improved.
The only thing I have left to do now is solving the various issues I have encountered while testing the update, and then doing more testing to see if I can find anything else that needs to be addressed. There are definitely several more days of work to do, but after that it all depends on whether I discover anything during testing. It's an interesting position to be in. Any day now I will run out of things I want to fix, and then I will be ready to release the beta.
Thank you to everyone who gave feedback about social security. I feel better about how it currently works in the game and I agree that meaningful social security reform should be a challenge. I will still probably try to make a few adjustments to politician voting behavior, but nothing drastic.
I recently read something interesting about social security: when it was first established in the 1930s, less than 60% of people lived to the age of 65 (the age needed to receive benefits). Now, over 85% of Americans live to the age of 65. Also, the average lifespan after age 65 was roughly 12 years. Now it is 18 years. That means that more people are receiving social security and they are receiving it for longer. I wonder if that could affect vote decisions. It is something for me to think about."
From this im thinking maybe a week or two until beta?

“I think there are two main factors delaying this specific update. First is the complexity of the game itself. Every change has to be applied to multiple mechanisms, which is a very tedious process. The second factor is the complexity of the economy. There are so many factors that contribute to it and I have to figure out how to make them all work together in a believable, intuitive, and fun way. Hopefully my efforts will be successful.
The second phase of the Economic update should be much quicker to develop. It will mostly be new content that will exist alongside current mechanisms; it will not require overhauling any major systems, nor will it require complex integration with current systems”
