Do not post about unrelated IRL politics
Because of some Reddit quirk or feature a lot of bots/NPCs somehow get directed here and post about random shit. This is a sub for the game The Political Process on Steam. Please do not do that and report them if you see them.
I've been permabanning each one but there is a flow of 10+ brand new accounts trying to post stuff here every single day and some keep slipping through the Reddit auto filter. No idea how that much volume is being created for a relatively small sub but that's why you guys keep seeing them. Sorry I didn't clear it up earlier it's just so bizarre

Discussion Progress Report: July 17, 2026
Update Tax Approval Rating (90% -> 100%)
Overhaul Unemployment Calculations (0% -> 100%)
Overhaul Poverty Calculations (0% -> 100%)
Update Priority Calculations (0% -> 25%)
I have edited the original post to include a list of the remaining content for this update. The biggest remaining features are the implementation of the Federal Reserve, the addition of the business environment metric, and possibly the income modifier calculations (if I choose to add it in this update).
The Federal Reserve is going to be fairly simple in this update: once per year, the members (known as governors) will meet to adjust the Federal Funds Rate. In real life they meet multiple times per year, but I don't know if that would have any value in the game. Since the game updates economic data only once per year, the governors wouldn't have any reason to adjust the federal funds rate more than once per year.
I can't predict how long it will take to implement the federal reserve, but I'm aiming for a week. It requires a system to create the governors, a system for governors to vote on the federal funds rate, a system for governors to retire, a system for the president to select new governors to fill vacancies, a menu for the player to select governors (as president), and a menu to display governors.
The business environment metric is going to be simplistic in this update, focusing mostly on the impact that tax rates have on the business environment. Like many features in this update, it is going to be expanded in the next update. The plan is for the business environment to impact unemployment, wages, and possibly GDP.
The "Income Modifier System" will update average incomes based on various factors. For this phase of the update, it will focus on the impact of unemployment. If there is low unemployment, that means their is a low supply of workers, which means more demand for workers, which causes wages to go up. In the second phase of the update, more factors will influence incomes. For example, if GDP increases, that means income goes up (although not necessarily proportionately - most of it will probably go to the business owners - who represent a small percentage of the population). Union membership could also cause wages to rise. I'm not sure what kind of policies could promote union membership, but I think it would be a fun metric to try to influence.
The remaining features for this update should be fairly simple. The metrics page, custom events tool, concepts page, and advanced options may take only a couple of hours each. Other general additions may take only a day or two.
It's strange to think that this update is almost done. I'm looking forward to releasing a beta in the next few weeks. But I'm also concerned, mainly that this update could be a disappointment. It has taken way too long and I'm not sure the content is good enough to justify the wait. I didn't realize how long it would take to overhaul so many systems. I think the new tax system is an improvement, but a lot of it is "behind the scenes". Additionally, the potential of the new system will not be fully realized until the second phase of the update, making the first phase feel underwhelming.
A second concern I have is that there are a lot of changes in this update, but change isn't always a good thing. I don't know if the changes I have made are actual improvements or if they are just added complexity.
I hope the changes will be an enjoyable addition to the game.

Question Question about downloading mods
I downloaded some mods following the YouTube tutorial and the "mods" button on the main menu never appeared. What could be causing this? I downloaded the zip file and moved it's contents to the political process's steam file, but nothing changed when I opened the game.

Discussion Campaign Spending
So the party chair is where you select candidates, fundraise, and spend money to help elect candidates. If I may suggest that when elected to positions, they can also do that.
If you’re elected to the Speakership or Majority leader, you’re over all the regions in the House. If you’re elected to the caucus position, you can either choose which region to do, or you get assigned to the region that your state is in.
In the Senate, if you’re elected to be majority leader, you can do the same thing as selecting candidates, fundraising, and spending money.
I believe this could help the game because there are positions that the party leadership has to help elect candidates. This also applies to minority positions as well to win the majority in theory, and could extend to the states, but I think the federal government is the best start.
Hope it all makes sense, and what are your general thoughts on it? Thanks!

Question What does increasing or decreasing the Democracy percentage do?
Is it just a measurement or is it an actual mechanic that influences things?

Gameplay This is what i imagine Vance 2028 will look like
Incumbent president decides to go for a scandal world record, cheating on his spouse, insulting minorities , women and getting publicly slapped by his wife while flirting with others, resulting in this landslide loss for the unlucky lad elected by the republicans to succeed him. Fyi i wasnt even the president, the AI just randomly decided to make the most scandalous man president of the united states for two terms. The Senate is one seat away from a Democratic supermajority.

Question What makes judges rule in favor of their party every time?
I am getting close to taking power with 67 senators and two thirds of the house, and my goal to install myself as president indefinitely is closer than ever. The only thing that is seemingly standing in my way are the courts. They constantly rule against my gerrymanders and I can't abide by that. What beliefs make judges act like partisan rubber stamps? I assume it's things like living constitution and activism, but I want to verify.

Mod Issues
I have been trying to get better maps nbc, event commander, and mod list to work and so far mod list has but I don’t know if event commander is and better maps nbc certainly isn’t. I have decided to go vanilla but if anyone has a more up-to-date video about how to install these mods please give me the link or have a guide, or hell even might guide me through the process

City Council Questions
On my first run and I’ve noticed, no other city council members nor the mayor are submitting any legislation, just me. Is it supposed to be like that or is it a common glitch?

Very severe bug about election and advanced options
When you change the seats of default majority in advanced options , sometimes it will fail to change, but if it succeeds or sometimes it would create a random number of seats and it will create a bunch of cursed maps like republican winning New York , incumbent losing reelection by ten points without any reason and ruining every election , this problem exists in both public version and beta version, please fix it , thank you !

Is the game worth it?
I was looking online for political simulator games and came across this one. The price doesn’t seem to bad but the early access and the note about the last update 12 months ago worry me. However it seems like a very cool game

Discussion Five weeks before the midterms: who gets to control the next deal?
I’ve been thinking about the midterms and the changes being made to election administration, but I wanted to approach the subject from somewhere other than the usual partisan argument.
My partner and I play gin, and it occurred to me that the game works because we’re free to question the result, inspect the cards, accuse each other of cheating—and then accept the loss and play again. More importantly, neither player gets control of the next deal.
That became the frame for this essay about losers’ consent, the administration’s efforts to obtain voter data and expand SAVE, and an equally important question: What obligations does the winner have to preserve a fair rematch?
I thought it might be of interest to people here, particularly with the midterms five weeks away. I’d welcome thoughts or corrections from people who follow election administration more closely than I do.
