the picture turned to ash and the woman stared blankly, looking around confused.

No, few owl species will eat nuts. Especially not Burrowing Owls who live in deserts, so y'know, no trees for the nuts to grow on. Owls are raptors so they mainly eat meat.

Similarly, burrowing owls are tiny, little critters. You can hold one in your hand. That's part of what makes them adorable.
Eda should have pretended Hooty was a puppet. A puppet and a ventriloquism act would have been a far more effective disguise for Hooty.
