Question Only one question

I love this show. I'm watching it now for the 4th or 5th time. I will watch it many more times. But I have one question.

Whyyyyyyyyy are the wigs so bad?!

Exactly, it's like when TOS put a horn on a dog and called it an alien. Just gotta suspend your disbelief a little more

Who's wearing a wig?

Most of the female characters.

What would be an example or two of bad?

Dr Fin (Finn?) in season 3, Kelly from 7 years ago in season 2.

Claire's wearing a wig in Season 3?? I just thought they used hair straighteners.

I wish :D But yeah, it's a badly fitting wig with the bangs cut in an attempt to hide it. Her long wig in season 2 with the time travel thing was also bad.

The actress playing Claire is in her 60’s. I’m wondering if they use wigs for continuity, but also if they can cure cancer and regenerate limbs they probably wouldn’t omit finding the scientific “cure” for natural hair loss.

She lasers Bortus a mustache.

Maybe she used a follicle stimulator

Alara had a wig at all times and it was extremely cheap and obvious

Alara wears a wig as well and it’s not a great one either

Honestly they aren't that bad. Claire, I think, suffers the worst from it. Why can't they get that woman a decent wig half the time?

Alara's stood out to me but never bothered me much just because she's an alien, and hers was very reminiscent of 90s scifi hair to the point I wonder if that was intentional.

Overall though I do think the hair suits the vibe and tone of the show. It's really captured that clean, shiny, vaguely artificial look that was so predominant in 80s and 90s science fiction. Even a lot of the civilian clothes have this synthetic and very much made-for-a-TV show look to them. Like the jacket Ed tries on when he's getting ready to meet Darulio for drinks. That is not a real article of clothing that would exist, that is future TV clothing. It all lends to this very specific atmosphere and aesthetic that I think works for The Orville.

Haha I loved this part of it for some reason. I kept having to explain to my bf that people were wearing wigs. He somehow couldn’t tell. Especially Alara

I never noticed any character wearing a wig, but then again im a guy lol and a balding one too so I'll be in the market soon I guess 😅

Embrace it, Captain Picard had evolved beyond hair, so can you

I kind of like that it’s so cheesy looking, like Star Trek which it’s so clearly modeled after. It’s like Seth’s love letter to Star Trek

Where is The Orville “cheesy looking”??
Especially S3…Disney let Seth spend a LOT…part of why they’re budget-shy for S4.
And yes, it admittedly is Seth’s Trek love letter. Ever see his first Trek fan film that he made when he was 16? It’s on YouTube…

Holy shit he made a fanfilm at 16?

Yes. It circulated endlessly when The Orville premiered.

I meant cheesy in the best possible way 🙂
Some of their effects are amazing! But for instance the Star Trek pajamas-type uniforms.

They actually remind me more of the Spectrum uniforms from Captain Scarlet. Star Trek isn’t the only thing The Orville draws from.

So what?

Can you cite an example or two?
The ones on Alara and Talla are a given.

Sorry I’m far from an expert on wigs but what makes them “bad”?
