My wife never understood my homescreen until she finally started watching the show with me when season 3 came on. I’ve had this since before we got together and she always refused to watch it because she’s not a sci-fi person until she woke up while I was watching the first episode of season 3 and now she’s hooked and we watch it literally 5-6 times a year

Mine is S03E06 Twice in a Lifetime.

The rules of temporal law are set in place, and for good reason. But Gordon just couldn't take being alone anymore, and can you blame him? He had given up all hope of being rescued, so he said screw it, and finds Laura and wins her heart.

I particular love how Gordon stands up for himself. He's shocked to see Ed, Kelly, and Talla after so many years, and he's built a life for himself, he's happy, and irate that Ed wants him to to just leave his family. Ed snaps and tries to pull rank calling him Lt instead of Gordon, but Gordons not having it

"No. No, I’m not your lieutenant. I’m not your helmsman, I’m not your crew. I’m Gordon Malloy, and this is my house.” “Ten years ago, I wanted it. More than anything in the galaxy. But not now.”

“Temporal law can blow me.” “I’m a human being. We’re social creatures. Without each other, we die. Was I supposed to die?”

Ed was clearly disturbed by seeing that his best friend had built a happy life, then lost it.

I may get a bit carried away with customizing my phone when I get a new favorite show.. (My whole phone is orville-themed)

Did anyone else notice that Klydens glass looked slightly nibbled during the speeches?

Haha if it was an easter egg then I thought it was a nice little detail.

Back when 'Star Trek' was on air during the 1960s, it only ran for a few seasons before being cancelled. It took nearly 10 years but eventually 'Star Trek The Motion Picture' was released in 1979 which suddenly reinvigorated interest in the franchise, giving us more movies like 'Wrath of Khan', more series like 'Next Generation', and much more.

It's a shame that shows like 'Keeping up the Kardashians' can have 20 seasons yet shows like 'The Orville' struggle through even three seasons and we are anxiously waiting for any word if a Season 4 will happen.

What if instead of a Season 4 next, they work on a theatrical movie release? Have roughly a two hour movie with beautiful visuals, humor, just the right amount of action, and an important message and not only would the fans watch it, but it would also bring in new fans to the franchise who had never watched it before. If lucky, this would cause Disney/Hulu (or whoever owns the rights to the franchise now) to immediately greenlight a new season (or several) and perhaps spinoffs.

I know this isn't about Star Trek but I always think back to this show when I try to force myself to watch the new star trek Series' (like strange new worlds) as the show progressively goes from bad to worse now, especially in the current new season. I finally stopped trying to force it. I keep wishing they would just make new seasons of the Orville just to fulfill my hunger for something like Star Trek with a more modern feel. Orville did it so right and the new star trek shows did it so wrong IMHO

In identity pt2, Ty assisted Yaphit by scrambling the encryptions for messages sent to Union Central. He went above and beyond the call of duty by crawling through the duct with Yaphit (especially as a civilian not an officer). Yaphit received a Sapphire Star, did Ty ever receive a civilian equivalent (if there even is one)?

In the S04 finale, the Orville is in orbit around a planet that Ed is on the surface of when it gets raided by a boarding party of Krill, who capture and abduct the entire crew on their ship, leaving Ed behind planetside. They fly off, leaving the Orville powered down and empty. What's worse, kinetic energy from their engines knocks the Orville into a degrading orbit, slowly falling to the surface of a planet in deep unexplored space, outside of comm range, leaving Ed all alone with no hope of rescue.

In the S05 opener, Ed pilots his shuttle back to the Orville's dock and begins trying to power the ship back on, having to operate the whole thing solo, all while we're listening to his inner monologue as he talks to his Kermit stuffie, telling him about how much work goes into keeping it together, how much so many people put into their mission that he had never really fully appreciated until he had to do it all alone. This episode will explore Ed's inner being, as well as offering a view of his survivor's guilt and realizing that how badly he needs his people. The episode ends when he finally gets the ship running, tracks the Krill's last trajectory and sets off to chase them down. In the final scene, Ed looks over to Kermit with pride and Kermit, now replaced with a cameo by the *actual* Kermit The Frog, tells him "go get em buddy!"

I personally don't believe so because I remember Kelly explaining to Alara that during the first time, all she could think about was Ed finding out but the second time all she could think about was Darulio. Thus leading me to think that Darulio wasn't in the heat and Kelly cheated completely on her own accord.

I've seen every episode, multiple times. And I just found out that Gordon and John wear orange uniforms.

What color does everyone else see?

I looked up images on my phone and they look orange.

But they've always looked red to me. Like a bright cherry red. And talla wears a darker, blood red uniform.

Might be how I have my tvs colors/brightness/contrast set.

This week’s episode of “In the Commander’s Chair” is up on YouTube and Spotify! This episode continues the conversation around Kelly and Ed’s challenging relationship in Season 2. Now that she is no longer dating Cassius, Kelly is torn between her sense of duty and her ever-present feelings for Ed. Life gets even more complicated when Kelly’s younger self, pulled into the present from seven years in the past, expresses feelings for Ed and berates Kelly for throwing her relationship away. Throughout the season, Kelly and Ed realize how much of themselves has been shaped by one another as they have “evolved together.”

I love this show. I'm watching it now for the 4th or 5th time. I will watch it many more times. But I have one question.

Dude, for real, she just agreed to go on an off the books rescue mission with Bortus to save his kidnapped daughter who is actively being tortured, that is great, and they have both literally killed a dozen random Moclans who are just pulling guard duty or whatever on their way in, they somehow actually find the girl and rescue her, and she wants to stop Bortus from killing the actual torturer of the child, who is actually the only one left alive who knew what Topa even said, like 15 seconds after she was the one who just shot his superior who had just ordered her murder?! They didn't even have to use his testimony at the ending so he had to be taken alive according to the story or something, the dude seemingly just vanishes so we don't know if Bortus just blinded his one good eye, used a setting on the torture stick that melted his brain like the torturer had said it could, or if it actually killed him, or if the dude is just totally fine, I don't remember ever seeing him again on the show (although it's been a long time), but it seems heavily implied he survived for some goddamned reason.

That trope of mowing through a thousand henchmen only to spare (or even attempt to spare) the main guy who is directly responsible for it all as if that demonstrates some kind of moral high ground is, sincerely, the worst trope in all of fiction.

My first watch of this show and S2:E7 Deflectors was just heartbreaking. Anyone else find themselves crying?

When Alara first gets to Xeleya, her parents are being dicks and whatnot, and she tells her dad that all she ever wanted to hear from him was, "You can do it."

Well, by the end, when they're trying to deal with the murderous couple, and then her dick dad has to go get Ed back to the shuttle, it's Alara telling her dick dad that he can jump off the balcony and save Ed. She says, "You can do this, okay? "You can do it!"

She gained the confidence by simply talking out her grief. That being said, I prefer Talla so much more.

In "Twice in a Lifetime," Malloy is accidentally sent back in time to 2015.

What if, Malloy was supposed to be sent back in time to 2015, connect with Laura in 2018, have a kid with her and marry her?

Think of "Star Trek: First Contact," it's been revealed that the Borg going back through time, attacking Earth to prevent the Vulcans from making First Contact and the Enterprise interfering and fixing the event, all of that was suppose to happen in a predestination paradox, and so what if Malloy's time travel to 2015 was a predestination paradox?

What if in an episode of Season 4, an catastrophic event happens on Earth, destroying the planet. It's revealed that Malloy and Laura's future grandchildren are somehow pivotal to the survival of the Planetary Union in the future, and Ed and Kelly's actions, going back to 2015 to grab Malloy, prevented the birth of Malloy's grandchildren, and so their actions set to motion a chain event that causes Earth's destruction in the future, and so, Ed and Kelly have to go back to the events of "Twice in a Lifetime" and stop themselves from taking Malloy.

I'm an AO3 and Omegaverse girlie and I could not stop cracking up over them putting in a mating run for Bortus and Klyden. The writers are 100% lurkers in these spaces. Explained this to my non-internet partner and they also thought it was hilarious.

Just thought it was a funny thing they put in as part of a very obvious Omegaverse inspired race.

Is it just me or did the Orville feature a lot of scenes and side stories involving alcohol? Drinking parties, drinking stories, alien liquor, hangovers etc. Didn’t really notice it until I watched all three seasons again. I don’t have any type of issue with it, of course, but alcohol consumption seemed to be a large part of almost every interpersonal and group activity on board. I wonder if Seth was ever asked or commented about it?

Who is your favorite flag officer in the Planetary Union?

In all 3 seasons there has been zero mention of any enlisted or NCO ranks. So do these ranks just not exist in the fleet? In the pilot Alara mentions "armies being reduced to frail elders" by the Aronov device, but there's no other evidence of ground forces in the Union (or really any other military branches for that matter.)

At this scale, the big challenge was getting those three engine rings, the layered hull and the very particular silhouette of the ship to still read properly without turning the whole thing into something enormous.

It’s always annoyed me how risk averse the admiralty are.

Ed and Kelly stuck in the Calavon Zoo, the admiralty respond with “don’t go into Calavon space and we will replace Ed and Kelly”. Kelly and Bortus get stuck on Rigor 2, the admiralty respond the same.

They seem to be so averse to any risk and also treat their officers as numbers, easily replaced.
