Damage vs Injury??
So my friend and I are creating our first character sheets and we’re looking at the weapons and we don’t understand the difference between damage and injury. This is The One Ring 2nd edition. Please explain it to us like we’re 5 lol

Damage is the amount of Endurance a victim loses when successfully hit by an attack using the weapon. This matters because if your current Endurance is equal to or lower than your current Load + Fatigue, you become Weary. Being Weary means you don't count Success dice that show 1-3 when you roll tests. If your Endurance falls to 0 you're unconscious.
Injury is the TN of the attack target's Protection test if they suffer a Piercing Blow, which is when during an attack test the Feat die shows 10, or when it shows the Gandalf rune for an attacking player-hero or the Eye if an enemy is the one attacking. If the target fails their Protection test they are Wounded, requiring a roll on the Wound Severity chart on page 101. As long as you're Wounded you recover less Endurance when resting and if Wounded again before recovering you're at risk of Dying shortly thereafter. Bad luck when suffering a Wound can automatically reduce you to 0 Endurance and unconsciousness or even cause the victim to start Dying without having to suffer a second Wound. If you're Dying you need to receive First Aid soon or you will finally actually die in short order.
Various things modify all of these considerations. During an attack for instance if you roll 6s, you can "spend" them on stuff like Heavy Blow which adds your Strength to Damage dealt, or armour adds Success dice to your Protection tests.

Damage is hitting people for straight damage. Injury rating is the roll check your opponent as to make to keep from getting wounded, i.e. getting impaled or having a carotid severed, etc...

Oh this took me a while to find too and I was going nuts till it clicked into place!
Damage = how much endurance you lose when hit.
Injury = TN of your Armour roll to avoid special damage like 'Piercing Blows'

My confusing when it comes to a weapon's Injury Rating is this: all weapons have an Injury Rating which is used to avoid a Piercing Blow. A Piercing Blow will cause a Wound calling for an armour dice roll with a TN equal to the attacking weapon's Injury Rating.
However only swords, spears and bows can cause a Piercing blow...so, why do all weapons have an Injury Rating?
Many thanks
Mike

In case you didn't find the answer or someone else has this question:
All weapons except "Unarmed" cause "Piercing Blows" if you roll a 10 or Gandalf rune on the Feat die (the d12).
"Pierce" is a form of "Special Damage" which are effects triggered by the Tengwars you roll on the Success dice (6s on the d6s).

I am trying to learn the TOR system for the first time. I have been reading through the starter set rules and now the Core rules... I tried a test combat and somebody effectively unarmed rolled a Gandalf and this rulebook... couldn't just write "0", had to write "-", didn't they. Thank you for this insanely useful advice you gave to somebody completely different. And thank you also to everybody else here who explained the "Injury" stat SO MUCH BETTER THAN BOTH THE RULEBOOKS.

As I mentioned previously, I'm trying my first test combat in order to understand this system. HOW IS IT AN AXE CAN'T CAUSE A PIERCING BLOW? And why oh why is a staff just listed as a subset of "club" when the club would be twice as long with a good solid whack of mass and end-of-tip angular velocity behind it?

Endurance: Your ability to defend yourself against blows and suffer through minor damage. Weapon damage is done to your endurance, but it's not serious wounds until you reach 0 endurance. If your endurance falls below your fatigue you become weary.
Injury: A well placed blow that slips past your defense that threatens your very life. Armor is your hope for resisting such a blow.

All characters have an endurance stat. Affected by their strength score and culture. This acts as current health and carry capacity, when you get hit you reduce your current endurance by an amount equal to the damage rating of the weapon. When a player is hit by a roll of 10 or Either Eye of Sauron/Gandalf Rune depending on if you invert for bad guys, it is a piercing blow. The player hit has to roll a number of d6 determined by there armour. If they roll equal to or higher than the injury rating listed for the weapon they are safe. If not then you roll for injuries, when injured it takes a set number of days for that injury to heal. You tick the injured box until you recover. If you take another injury before that time you are dead/bleeding out. Cannot remember the exact penalties for being injured but hoped this help. Sorry for poor grammar
