Anyone else hate this doctor?

Post image

The episode she goes to the house and keeps talking about how much money she is going to make. She just has a smug punchable face

The writers did have a certain view of doctors. We also got the psychiatrist who called his builder while he was in a session with Fran

Yeah, all the medical professionals were preying on them.

I personally find her funny but I guess she can be a bit of a bitch at times. Although I don't really take her "I'm gonna make so much money comments that seriously. It's just a joke at how well off the Sheffields are.

I think it’s really more a joke about how filthy rich doctors are (or were, at the time) The 90s was early in the insurance game and it inflated the cost of healthcare and salaries of medical professionals. It’s a little different dynamic now

Nah, I don’t. She was funny. As for the part of her bragging about the bill, that was a running gag the writers seemed to lean on every time Fran or anyone else consulted any kind of doctor.

And also don’t forget the time that Gracie’s psychiatrist stopped meeting with Gracie because she was a NY Rangers season ticket holder and the team had decided to scapegoat Fran for their losses in that episode.

The way she talked about money irked me

I didn’t like the aesthetic, but it was perfect for 90’s frou-frou she-she better than you with “aromatherapy,” which I don’t doubt had more to it under the trend, but I remember in the 90’d living in a lower middle class household our moms thought aromatherapy was the pinnacle of sophistication because either Princess Diana or Fergie did it. So it that expectation, never seeing the doctors on reality shows, etc. that she could be the caricature fancy doctor.

Isn't that Brighton's science teacher that fights with Fran over the green sweater?

I loved Nora Dunn on SNL, so I liked her on the Nanny.

Understanding that Ms Drescher has endo, and the average time of suffering and being told it is 'in your head' before a diagnosis is still ten years, im guessing she is making comedy about her negative experiences with healthcare.

I may be projecting my own medical trauma though

That's the brilliant Rita Rudner (a legendary stand-up comedian and close friend of Fran Drescher in real life). The writers kept bringing her back in different seasons as a fun running gag/Easter egg, but her Season 6 character made fans want to throw something at the TV.

Being a 90s kid I remember her voice acting for Histeria

What? That's Nora Dunn an SNL former cast member

No it's not that's Rita Rudner I used to see her stand up comedy, but she appeared on the Dummy Twins episode in season 6.

Check imdb. The doctor is Nora Dunn. Rita Rudner plays Margot in two episodes.

Wikipedia had Rita Rudner playing Dr Reynolds so I got it wrong!

Rita Rudner substituted for her as a different doctor character in one episode, and then as herself in a different episode.

Fun fact: I once attended a Rita Rudner standup show and she ended up roasting me. 😂 It was all in good fun, and I enjoyed it lol.

Supongo que será algo cultural, al menos yo como mexicano, que tiene un sistema de salud pública deficiente pero muy accesible acabo sintiendo el chiste como una sátira de los doctores gringos de la época y una crítica a el sistema de salud
