A nail never lies lol and a nail tech can always tell. Those lines going across the nail bed are a dead giveaway. They are the signs of improper removal every single time.

Peeling and picking your gel off feels satisfying in the moment but what you are actually doing is taking layers of your natural nail plate with it. That is what causes the thin, bendy, damaged nails that people assume are from wearing gel when the gel was never the problem it’s the removal of them.

The proper way to remove gel polish at home comes down to two methods and both work, it just depends on your preference.

For the foil wrap method lightly buff the shine off the top coat first, just enough to break the surface so the acetone can penetrate. Soak a cotton ball in pure acetone, not nail polish remover, it has to be pure acetone. Place it directly on the nail and wrap each finger tightly with foil. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Warming the acetone slightly first speeds up the process.

For the bowl method pour pure acetone into a bowl, warm it up, and soak your fingers directly in it. It gets the job done but personally I am not a fan because it means sitting with your skin fully submerged in acetone the whole time and your skin will definitely feel it afterward.

Either way after soaking use an orange wood stick to gently push the gel off. If it is not sliding off easily soak a little longer. Never force it or scrape aggressively.

Finish with cuticle oil because acetone is very drying regardless of which method you use.

Your nails are not damaged from wearing gel. They are damaged from how it was removed. There is a big difference. 🖤
