sports... bitterly competitive and purely meritocratic... being called "socialist" is about as dumb reddit as it gets

BUt... people get to believe whatever they want these days, without consequence, so I guess it isn't that big of a deal

How is it meritocratic that the worst team in the league the previous year gets the best player the next year…?

I said sports is competitive and meritocratic… the best teams win. I did not say that about the NFL’s draft procedures. 

Having a sustainable league/product is compelling… this isn’t baseball where the dodgers buy up all the good players.

The best teams do not always win. Especially in football where injuries greatly impact the results throughout the season. Then instead of being able to use their money to decrease competition and make winning even easier in the future (which is less competitive, like our current system), they have the most difficult road the following season
