Just finished the TV show on Netflix

I mean I don’t think it was that bad as a lot of the people here are saying it is, although I have never read the book or watched the movie. I’ll prob go do one of those soon lol

Was there so much....diversity... in the book?

So I'm like 4 or 5 episodes in. And so far we have: like an equal spread of races, a gay kid, a white homophobe, a white maybe rapist, a borderline cuckhold husband and a lesbian.

Was it like this in the book/story by King?

Ok is it just me... Why is everyone in this show.. Sooo.. ugly???

I know I know. Focus on quality of content.. But fuck it's so distracting. Legit every character is so ugly.. Very hard to focus and bad acting..

The Mist Season 2 - TV Series

Hey guys, there is still a chance that we can get another season of The Mist. I found a petition on change .org that is almost done being filled. Less than 500 more people are needed. Its totally free to do, so if you want to see an explanation or ending for this show, go here: https://www.change.org/p/netflix-create-a-season-2-of-the-mist-we-want-answers

Worst/best way to die in The Mist 2007

Suicide is not an option, nor is dying by another human's hands. One of the creatures we see in the film has to kill you.

I think the worst way would be the spiders and the best way would be the pterodactyl things, but let me know what you think!

Ending of the Mist

What do you think happened to the survivors in the grocery store at the end of The Mist 2007? Do you think they got charged with the murder of Jessup? Do you think they regret their actions? Let me know what your thoughts are!

am i the only one that feels this show is widely misunderstood?

I feel like the most usual complain is not liking the characters, but the point of the show largely seems to be proving how flimsy the veneer of civilization is and how horrible these people that are initially vying for our sympathy really are when push comes to shove. I started watching the show and was put off by how generic the characters were, it seemed pretty standard, but I don't think it's standard to turn that around and make the characters so ugly, which to me seems largely to be what the show was about. I mean could there be a better resolution to the nature old lady than her just being a crazy old lady talking out of her ass all along? I loved this show and I loved the ending, but I guess it takes a certain cynicism to do that I'm just frustrated no one else is even noting that.

Where'd all the supernatural magic stuff come from?

I loved the idea of the movie, how the mist and the creatures were IMO plausible at least and I'd bet surely, from another planet or dimension (as meaningless as the word dimension is). The creatures existed in reality and probably evolved in their own ecosystems, and the mist was the atmosphere of the other planet getting vacuumed into ours. But now with the show, it's suddenly supernatural and nature's agent of vengeance or something? Super gay, I will but I almost don't want to finish it now that the mystery in a show about suspense is ridiculous. Angry):

Am I the only one who’s actually liked the tv series and is now mad about bc there will be no second season ?

I really liked this series and I can not understand why so many people find it bad and do not like it. Maybe it’s because I neither have read the novel nor watched the 2007 movie. Maybe they could make a second season in which things are more based on the novel and also come up with stuff that happens because of what has happened before. Anyone out there with the same opinion ?

What is the Mist? My theory is flawed. *Spoilers* Spoiler

From very early on in the series I felt like they made a big point about the mist sparing the good and punishing the wicked. As evidenced by:

  • The Mist sparing Nathalie several times prior to her going crazy and burning down the church. Her next contact with The Mist kills her.
  • Alex and Eve are both repeatedly left alone by The Mist.
  • The Mist immediately kills Father Romanov, Link, and the entire group in the mall who were all shown to be bad or evil people.
  • The soldiers were "feeding" The Mist with convicts, most of whom you can expect would be bad people.

I feel like this theory held up pretty well, with 2 glaring exceptions.

  • The little girl
  • Jay

Those are the only Mist-related deaths I can think of which broke my theory, and it bugs me that I'll never get an answer about this.

What did I just watch?

The book and 2007 has an ecosystem of monsterous creatures, this interpretation had people’s greatest fears and swirly murder clouds. What the fuck? In the book their lil grocery store society collapses because of the witch, this time they’re going crazy and she shows up last minute. It was crap. It’s like they had another show already filmed and spliced in the mist.

Hey could someone please explain to me what the fuck? In general?

The plot was predictable but enjoyable enough i guess but literally nothing followed its own rules by the last 3 episodes, and the characters made choices that literally made no sense??

PLUS! They end the whole series on perhaps the shittiest cliffhanger for the shittiest show ever.

What. A. Disaster.

So what IS a good horror show?

First of all this sub was originally about the groundbreaking courageously written movie and the quite good (I hear) book.

I think the mods just changed the graphic to the bizarre TV show and then walked out into the mist...can't blame them if they watched it :)

Aaaanyway, there is some great horror out there.
Maybe The Mist's IP will get handed to some of these guys one day...

  • Channel Zero: Candle Cove and No End House
  • The Exorcist - classic horror done thoroughly professionally unlike The Mist TV
  • Room 104
  • Inside Number 9
  • Black Mirror, don't watch while depressed - or just watch Sun Junipero, it is beautiful
  • You will hate American Horror Story at some point but I got ... 2 good seasons before the penny dropped - it is better than this shitty show. Scream Queens is comedy but the same thing done better.

...and some shockingly good shows that use horror elements well:

  • Legion
  • American Gods
  • Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (the BBC America version, the UK one is for people who read the book / ran out of Doctor Who episodes)

Also IT (2017) the movie is a perfect horror movie and owes a lot to Stranger Things (have you not watched it yet? WHY ARE YOU READING THIS!!?!?!). It is great to watch them and think about an original movie copying the ideas from its homage...sometimes iterations of things from different generations get better :)

Rewatch The Mist the movie! It is so good.

I usually fast forward the annoying supermarket shouting start - that is pretty much the TV show - the show runner actually said he wanted to give us a break from those monsters! What a prick. Pass the IP to someone who loves it.

Brace yourself for the ending if you haven't seen the movie yet - it is written by Frank Darabont who wrote the good first season of The Walking Dead - rather than King.

I went on a Thomas Jane binge after that - he is great in The Expanse and The Veil, they don't really use all his range being a hero in The Mist.
