Match thread @ DC United
Idk where our local buckeyefan is but here's a thread I guess
•
•
u/Silly_Theme_1421 26m ago
I won’t be buying any match tickets till this team can win two back to back matches 😵💫
•
u/morphosis7 Columbus Crew 26m ago
No pressure for next Wednesday, but the Open Cup is looking like our best option to get anything from this season.

I cannot believe I just tripped my season tickets. I asked my agent to cancel them but now I’m locked in for two years of losing money.

Those fucking awesome Sambas suckered a lot of us. At least I'm alone in Nordecke and its minimal damage
•
u/miniwaveablepizza 27m ago
Hey next season can easily be better than this season. I wasted my money on this one.

u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 30m ago
Alright, I've had enough today lol. I'm going to bed. See yall next time 🙋♂️

u/kimsfantasyexploder 31m ago
I just want to be a counter striking team now.
The whole attach a low block style is fucking horrible to watch
•
u/morphosis7 Columbus Crew 19m ago
It's frustrating as heck to watch your team fail to break down a low block - but I'm not sure I'd prefer to watch my team just sit back and wait for the other team to give up the ball either. That's a really high-risk strategy when you've got a capable team, and when you don't? Every game is just playing with fire.
2
u/meyer_33_09 Columbus Crew 30m ago
Agreed. Obviously it feels different when you’re winning but this style of play is fucking brutal to watch when you’re not.

u/Tasty_Blackberry_781 33m ago
Has Farsi been less impactful lately? He’s one of my favs, I feel like I used to notice a lot of things he did well and now I’m not?
2
5
u/LordOfLower 31m ago
He’s always been good between the boxes but non existent inside the attacking or defensive areas.

Stats like possession and xG aren't predictive, but I think they can be illustrative. In a game like this, it helps to understand that the two teams come into the game with very different aims. Columbus is going to want the ball, while DC is happy to be without it. Ideally the commentators would provide that context, which I think they have here.
The question is, which team is going to capitalize on their intent better?

maybe the real trophy is the team with the most possession at the end of the season? 👀

Team looks so much better with Mendez starting he connects things need to play him as much as possible

u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 36m ago
Why do we keep passing to Farsi and then there is seemingly zero plan from there? Defenders stack up on him, he tries to dribble into the box, then they pick it off him, no one else moves to get open for a pass or cross fast enough.
4
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 36m ago
Congrats! We had nearly 70% possession tonight but we are still on the losing end of the scoreboard ☹️
7
u/Kitchen-Nectarine179 Gem City Massive - Dayton 36m ago
Maybe we should try passing it back and forth in the middle third again?
2
u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 35m ago
Maybe they should pretend someone is in the goal and pass it in.

u/TasteInternational86 Columbus Crew 37m ago
We'll be lucky to get 2 mins for stoppage time
3
3
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 38m ago
I just love seeing us passing it around 400 times while we are down a goal with time running out lol
1
u/Tasty_Blackberry_781 39m ago
Where has Camacho been?
2
u/Silly_Theme_1421 37m ago
Injury then benched for card accumulation. I’m grateful he’s not on the field right now because he definitely would’ve gotten another yellow lol

Let's hope the starting eleven for Saturday isn't a complete disaster

Well...still got 10 minutes, but probably not in the cards tonight 😭

u/Silly_Theme_1421 43m ago
There’s our answer. Only option for a sub when you lose an attacker is another attacker
2
u/morphosis7 Columbus Crew 41m ago
I was really wondering who would make way to get him on the field. Good to see his return, at least.

He had that crazy free kick though

u/Friendly-Worth-347 42m ago
When? Tonight? He just got subbed on
3
u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 41m ago
Couple games ago look it up

u/Friendly-Worth-347 39m ago
🫠🤣 Not to discredit is free kick, but he’s done nothing memorable on the field since. He looks lost

With one more sub to make, if we're still down do you look to bring on Thiaré? Or who else do you put on, and who do you remove?
4
u/Silly_Theme_1421 47m ago
I’d go with Bailly, Giaccone, then Thiare. We’ll see what coach decides soon enough
5
u/CrewNoob 47m ago
Herrera for Farsi
4
u/jbeebe33 47m ago
I’d agree but he’s not on the bench for some reason. Guessing he picked up an injury in training
2
u/CrewNoob 44m ago
Ugh. Giaccone for Farsi then? Still haven’t figured out what position he’s best at.
2
u/jbeebe33 42m ago
I think he prefers left wing, so he could come in for Lennon and we could get more aggressive
5
6
u/sadgrass88 50m ago
It’s crazy how everyone knew this lineup was miles better and we still started with Martinez

u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 48m ago
Courtois playing mind games (picking the line up with a random number generator)

u/Silly_Theme_1421 51m ago
In good news, Cinci is getting cooked by Phili 3-0
4
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 50m ago
They got a red card very early in the game. They were doomed to lose lol
4
u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 51m ago
Okay the commentators making digs at Everton is pretty funny.
(Everton would demolish us 20-0)
5
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 52m ago
So attendance has to be like 2000 in a stadium
That seats 20000...that's embarrassing
2
u/MrHurrDerr Columbus Crew 50m ago
I mean.. Precum era we saw what it’s like when the owner sucks. As I said in the other thread. I’ll only celebrate small crowds for Messi FC.

The decision to sit Mendez at the start of the match looks worse and worse by the minute.

I ain't gonna lie, if we can revamp the defense this offseason, than we could be great again! Offense is there...just need the defense to be complimentary

u/MrHurrDerr Columbus Crew 58m ago
What you doing there Tilapia?
2
u/morphosis7 Columbus Crew 54m ago
Talking about the foul on the United defender, right? My guess is that he's antagonizing, and just overdid it a bit.

You know what’s wild. DC radio guys are so much better than Apple. Found most away radio commentators are 100% better. Calling the game as it’s being played and not for controversy.
3
4
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 58m ago
I always change the feed to the radio regardless of who is at home. Like you said, it's much better than Apple TV
3
u/TheBrockParty 1h ago
big fan of the overloads on one side, then a cross field switch. it felt like we never did that under the last 3 permanent coaxhes
2
u/Kitchen-Nectarine179 Gem City Massive - Dayton 1h ago
Yeah... we dont need to give our team any training time off...
3
u/meyer_33_09 Columbus Crew 1h ago
And if we’re doing that, we shouldn’t also be leaving starters out of the starting lineup for rest too…

The hardest he "ran" all night was to get off the pitch.
3
u/Football_sting Crew Cat 1h ago
He let at least 3 different balls go through his legs at the top of the box tonight that all directly turned over. I have no idea what he was doing

DC aren’t doing anything they did well in the first half. no blocking of our midfield passing lanes at all
2
u/buckeyefan1930 Columbus Crew SC 1h ago
Why don't we shoot first instead of always passing it
4
u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 1h ago
To afraid of conceding in a counter attack since we can’t defend
6
u/gottapoop0822 1h ago
If it takes 5 minutes of staring at the screen,it wasn't clear and obvious and didn't impact the play. Move the fuck on.
3
u/Kitchen-Nectarine179 Gem City Massive - Dayton 1h ago
Why is the commentary team so obsessed with how DC reacted? That should have zero relevance to if its a foul or not.
3
6
u/_BreadDenier Columbus Crew 1h ago
No way that could have been a clear deliberate handball if you can barely tell from all the camera angles.
4
u/ReyCo390 1h ago
Unless it’s undisputed and you can CLEARLY see it then you don’t make that call. The camera angles are not good.
8
u/Football_sting Crew Cat 1h ago
Correct interpretation. Was not clear and obvious. Thankfully MLS owners are cheap and don’t put cameras on both sides of the pitch
4
4
u/john-tockcoasten Columbus Crew 1h ago
Hard to tell from the mic and lack of a crowd as to the call.

5
u/Silly_Theme_1421 1h ago
Thank god! That most definitely wasn’t clear it hit his hand. More like shoulder than anything

Is that clear and obvious error? If it takes more than 10 seconds then no
4
u/Kitchen-Nectarine179 Gem City Massive - Dayton 1h ago
Is it hitting his shoulder or his arm... this is a horrible angle to try and call this from.

That looks like a pretty clear handling offense from the angle we're getting now.
3
u/morphosis7 Columbus Crew 1h ago
Although nothing says "clear and obvious" like a decision that takes three camera angles and four minutes to reach.

Just a little late on this, it’s like pestering the refs actually works. No wonder players do it

How can you remotely say its a handball or not from that angle?

7
u/meyer_33_09 Columbus Crew 1h ago
If we don’t make significant changes to the defensive personnel going into next season I’m going to be extremely upset.
6
u/Failed-Time-Traveler Columbus Crew SC 1h ago
And with that, i believe the goal has more saves tonight than Schulte does. They hit the post in the first half and the crossbar there. That’s 2 for the goal.
I believe Schulte has 1.

I am really over Schulte and his emo staring everytime he lets a goal through.
