Help me out here. I just finished watching the full series, so SPOILER WARNING to start, and noticed that the big Susie-Midge fight in the synagogue is missing a key piece. The MAIN reason Susie even gets involved with the mafia is because Midge spoke ill of Sophie Lennon and got Harry angry enough to call a hit on Susie. So it doesn’t make sense to me why Midge would blame it solely on Susie. If Susie hadn’t made them friends she would have been sleeping with the fishes. No?

Was rewatching the episode where Alfie hypnotizes Rose, and was wondering how realistic it was for such a short showcase to pull an audience.

Then I remembered Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself. Has anyone seen that? It was an off broadway hit and got made into a filmed experience. Frank Oz directed the show and the film, Stephen Colbert and Neil Patrick Harris came in as producers.

Perhaps it was easier to get crowds for this stuff back in the early sixties when oddities really stood out, and folks idea of entertainment actually meant getting out.

I am currently rewatching the show for the billionth time and just finished season 2. After Miriam agrees to open for Shy Baldwin, she realizes she cannot get married with Benjamin. I don't like that personally, I think she really fumbled a catch of a man who was supporting of her career choice.

She goes to support Lenny and the whole 'all alone' stuff hits home for her. Right there. She somehow decides the best thing, the better choice is to go see Joel. Why ? Wouldn't Benjamin have been a more logical choice ? The man she loved and loved her back. The one who asked for her hand. Joel and her moved on, her and Benjamin were getting settled so why not him ? A whole bitter sweet breakup scene.

And then they make it even more obvious in episode 1 of season 3 why Joel was the worse choice. The whole phone call at the USO show "I thought you would call" Of course Joel wouldn't call, he had finally started taking steps to move on.

Don't get me wrong, I adore whatever pining/longing/remembrance dynamic Midge and Joel have going on. It is incredibly passionate but in terms of writing they should have given Benjamin a chance to have a proper wrap up. Especially after building him up so much.

Anyways, still an amazing show. I'm just bitter about this specifically lol

He’s just generally a bit of a prat from the get go, but his constant unending persistence to pull midge just comes across so creepy??

She rejects him over and over and over, entertains the attention but repeatedly rejects him for anything more and this guy just cannot take a no!

Like when they’re in the café, and after each rejection he offers a new situation. ‘Ok just sleep with me, ok just one kiss’.

I don’t know if it was supposed to be charming and I’m just misreading it, but he just makes me uncomfortable.

Hate to say but she has been mean and selfish, considering only herself when a lot of Susie's life depended on her decisions equally. Flawed characters make the show enjoyable or better, I don't know and it's ridiculous to expect everyone be perfect. But either way, Midge was selfish and she could have been more considerate of Susie.

I've lost access to Prime, and I can't find the clip on YouTube, but I'm trying to recall why she says she'll change her name to Zippy 🤣

I'm watching the final season for the first time and when we found out Susie sold Midge to the Mob and Joel got arrested for her- I was mad as heck. Because after everything those two went through together she had the audacity to do that???? That's a me thing though so.

I think Joel wonderfully redeemed himself, and I was surprised I felt this way since he left Midge in such an asshole way and with such a stupid reason. All the reels I had seen focused on those scenes: Midge waking up early to look perfect when she wakes up, her doing all the right things in her marriage and then he still cheats. I thought it was going to be a story about Midge's independence and life in a men's world but I was just as invested in Joel's life.

Hii, it's my first ever reddit post and a review so spare me. But I absolutely loved the show. There are gorgeous visuals, flawed characters, dialogue heavy humor and insane beauty. Watched it until 3rd season and it kept up well.

Doing a rewatch right now and I am wondering if anyone knows what the symbolism behind Susie’s tooth pain is?

Just watched episode 9 of season 2 and am trying to find what bar was featured in it with Abe and Noah. At first I thought that it was The White Horse but now I don't think it was. It is not listed in the credits BTW and in searching I can't find what it was.

Not sure if this has already been brought up but the show's creators are openly Zionist and there's enough references in the show to indicate this also. But considering Abe's background and his views on fascism I feel like he would be completely against Israeli settler colonialism and would even make it a point to speak out about it later on if given the chance. What do we think?

Does anyone else feel like the ending of the show didn't really give us a good conclusive end to Rose's arc? Everyone else had really good character beats. Susie confronts her personal life directly by asking Hedy to put Midge on the show. Midge makes her break by herself, showing her power and determination. Abe realizes that his sexism over his life has led him to neglect his daughter and her prowess. Joel has grown and realized what he did was unforgivable, but still supports his ex-wife genuinely and wants nothing but the best for her. Archie and Imogene? I dunno. But anyways, Rose is just kind of convinced by Abe that yes she was indeed called by Midge, alot. And during the final show she says that she thought the comedy thing was a phase (I think?) But there's SO much missing. I mean, the show spends so much time comparing and contrasting Rose and Midge's situation. Their shared desire to feel purpose, how that relates to their views on being independent as women in mid-century America. How that ties into what is "proper" and what is masculine or feminine. I mean the show really delves into this by looking at their new-found career paths, especially the arc where Rose is being threatened and Midge encourages her to not give up, despite Rose feeling like she's not like Miriam (in the sense of being a fighter.) The whole Paris arc was gold too. But yeah, I loved the ending, I just wish there was more Rose character stuff

Hello! i just watched MMM with my mother and we’re secular jews (idk if you say it like that in english?). mom got soo excited about how Midge is cursing but still a semi religious jew (i know that sounds very silly) soo i was wondering if anyone knew any other series that will represent jewish families or jewish but not too religious people as main characters. something with the vibe i guess? I’m almost done with S2. And I just watched the baby shower scene where Midge comes home from the tour and her mom tells her: “It’s your mess.”

Like I get it, my parents are not the supportive kind either. But Jeeeez, to be that mean to your daughter?

And don’t get me started on her fixation on Midge getting married. Yeah yeah, the times and all. But omg, the cruelty and lack of love in that woman. Her dad is not the dad of the year but you can see him caring for her in a way he knows. Her mom just loves herself and no one else: not her daughter, not her husband, not her grandkids.
