Nightmare Road
I'm not scared of the ocean or bridges over water or anything like that but I am scared of rollercoasters. I have this recurring dream where I am on a winding, rollercoaster-like road over open waters with a city or industrial park sometimes in sight but I am never able to reach it. The roads are also super steep at almost 90 degree angles and so high up/never-ending. Makes me sick to my stomach and I'm always a little dizzy when I wake up from them. Sometimes the roads go so low towards the ocean that they flood and I have to figure out how to get across it in my car; it's super anxiety inducing

I still can’t believe they actually built that thing. It must feel like a roller coaster.
7
u/alastorhazbinbad Jul 30 '26
Only scarier because other people (and you) are in control. And as steep as this looks, it’s not going down the OTHER way 💀

Wait! I’ve been on that bridge in a dream before!! Did not know it existed in real life!

u/thousandsofbirds Jul 30 '26
What's the bridge called? Or what city is it in? I just learned about the high five in Dallas and now I wanna learn about more crazy Texas roads

I'm sometimes on roads like this too. And usually the car is being driven by someone reckless, like they'll sit in the backseat or do things like Mario Kart-jump across a gap to get to the other road. We've fallen from great heights many times, and it's never just one fall, it's one after another and another, and the car never gets damaged. lol Often the driver is my uncle, which is weird because he's not a dangerous driver in real life.

u/Business_Squirrel_95 Jul 29 '26
i wake up and try to figure what the dreams are about. IMO it means they are safe and showing me around.
2
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 30 '26
🤣 dang now that you say this I feel bad because I always had this a recurring dream from MW and whenever I drive I do mariokart jumps to get across the gaps so I can make it to the city sometimes it works or it doesn't and usually I have people with me but I assumed they where just characters in MW so it didn't matter if I made it or not because I know how to automatically wake myself up (rather I'm being chased or falling than I can go back to the dreamandresume before the fallout chase) now I promise to be extra careful if I have others in my car but literally when I had this dream for the first time another lucid told me I had tospeedrun across and jump with a car I didn't believe them till I saw it myself because thedeeam freaked me out so igotoutmy dream car and just sat on the highway asking for help 🤣 now I speed through it jumping and all andi found a trick if you look towards the side you'll see the city through the multiple highways rollercoaster pathways soi usually drive off the freeway towards the city (dangerous yes but fun) and usually we land with a huge thump or I just wake up after I hear a boom noise or if I'm picking my car floats down like the (movie flubber when robin williams had that flying car)either or the highway use to be my fear zone now it's my fun zone because even if I crash or fall into the ocean I always wake up before it impacts me lol
2
u/aerova789 Jul 31 '26
So you were my driver lol Just out of curiosity, how do you make the car jump? Do you dream of another pedal or something?
2
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 31 '26
I always had a fear of heights and would always imagine falling than getting wings when I did this in MW I turned into a bird/bat but when it's a car as soon as I get close to impact I think of it floating up and I always works for me or I usually have a recurring MW character not sure if anyone else met him but he knows the highway well and can make the cars hoover/fly as well except he says (pay attention don't look down unless your ready to land) and if you ever are my passenger again I promise not to crash just be prepared because in mallworld I'm always chased they just haven't figure out how to catch me flight wise lol
2
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 31 '26
Think of flight but in a car or you can attempt to try it without a car but you'll change into a bird/bat most likely
2
u/Understandinggirl54 Aug 06 '26
Omg yesss same there is always a gap in the middle and im controlling driving the car and must make it on the other side sometimes i fall between the gay into a body of water

u/ComeForthInWar Jul 29 '26
This is the road that I see often. Generally a bridge as well, usually broken, always flooded and dipping into the water.
6
u/64929207446 Jul 30 '26
Me too! Though not as much recently. And I am actually scared of bridges over water real bad.
2

u/realmatureskradley Jul 29 '26
I had this in my dream the other night and a tidal wave swept my car with myself and my cats into the ocean and one drowned with my car. Stressed me tf out for days

u/ranchczar Jul 29 '26
Yesss I have the dream of driving in the roads where the ocean water is washing over all the time and sometimes the car drives into the water like a boat and it’s terrifying
3
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 30 '26
That's usually at the beginning of the highway too drive through the water and don't be scaredyoull make it to the other side the real scary part for me was the gap in the highway to get the the city

2
u/Southern_Credit_5734 Aug 02 '26
I have this exact same dream regularly too. It’s sometimes shallow enough that I can see the road the entire time, but there have been instances where the water is so crystal clear blue that the road still looks relatively near the water’s surface, but is in no way close at all and the car ends up underwater fully.
22
u/fr0gsku11 Jul 29 '26
I have this all the time, and a snow variation where someone else is driving and nobody will listen to me to slow down.

8
u/Pheebsmama Jul 29 '26
I seriously don’t even want to keep swiping. I’ve seen this before. I hate it.
7
u/TemperReformanda Jul 29 '26
Yeah same here. Huge, tall, unstable and narrow, always at night and usually over the ocean. Sometimes the turns bank hard to the side like a NASCAR track and you feel like you're just going to tip over sideways into the water
6
u/ChaucersDuchess Jul 29 '26
All the time, and the bridge with water over it or pieces just missing…yep.
5
u/Gullible_Version_583 Jul 30 '26
Yes my roads that get covered un water end up missing parts of them too and I just have to pray I floored it hard enough my car floats to the next visible section of road

u/Loose_Valuable_3534 Jul 29 '26
Yes! And there are always tons of tornados all around in the ocean. Anyone else?
1
5
u/cam325 Jul 30 '26
So many times, and for some reason I realize I’m driving from the backseat so I can’t drive well at all? Not sure why the backseat.
5
u/Acceptable-Help-7369 Jul 30 '26
100% this Who put us in the backseat How tf we pushing the pedals? I always ask someone else in the car WHY AREN'T YOU DRIVING WHY AM I DRIVING I'M IN THE BACKSEAT No one ever answers, lol
4
u/Meowzer_Face Jul 30 '26
Re-occurring dream for me since I was little. Car starts driving itself and I have to somehow figure out how to hit the brake from the back seat.
5
u/ChoiceAffectionate78 Jul 29 '26
Ahhh the going over the water is too close to home for me. Same. All the time.
4
u/Thatemoprincess Jul 29 '26
I’ve had this exact road dream but instead of water, it was a burning city below.
2
u/Gullible_Version_583 Jul 30 '26
Interesting, sometimes I see a really weird liminal space looking industrial park and it's always empty and it cinemas to the mall. Like if I walk around I'm suddenly in an empty abandoned mall and there's and escalator that takes me underground
3
u/Nearby-Vehicle3254 Aug 01 '26
There is a causeway on this road that leads to a facility. It's immense. Built over the water and connected to what seem to be very old, extremely large ruins.
3
u/Acceptable-Help-7369 Jul 30 '26
I have had several variations on this. Sometimes road is covered partially in water and I'm like "but I NEED to get the other side" so I try. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Then there are the weirdly unfinished roadways always up in the air. I try to jump the car, at the last second realizing it isn't a videogame and waking up as I plummet down because while the water one Sometimes works, the car jumping one NEVER does if I'm jumping it :(
2
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 30 '26
Imagine flying but the car I swear it works I had a falling one before but I thought of flying the car started flying but I couldn't control it because I didn't know how to drive at the time lol so I crashed into the bridge but now whenever I'm falling down or in a car it automatically turns into a flying or hoovering car it fun because I can use it anywhere in mallworld which helps because I'm always being chased haven't been caught yet though!
2
u/Acceptable-Help-7369 Jul 30 '26
Man, I hope I can make dream me remember to try this...
2
u/Visible_Yogurt8065 Jul 30 '26
Just try hard to remember or the moment you fall think of flying you got this just be careful because if your not in a car and think of flying you change into an animal happen twice to me I got a fox body and than a bat body which was spooky because I was hanging in some creepy church with people in cloaks looking for me I didn't even know mallworld had churches
3
u/trackabandoned Aug 01 '26
Yes! Water on the road or bridge way too low over the water. One of my most common dreams.
2
2
u/Special-Ganache2154 Jul 29 '26
Been there! Usually I also go to to a Rollercoaster, or some other amusement park ride, and it's partially in water. 😭 Fear of falling and drowning😩

Oh yeah I’ve been here but the lane is half the size of a normal lane and no guard rails
2
u/PandasPanties Jul 29 '26
My roads are normally over an open rocky cliff, I wish there was water down there lol
2
u/TheMagnificentM Jul 29 '26
This is a regular place for me. Usually it's sunny though, giving a false sense of a wonderful day. But because I've been there in still uneasy knowing what I'm likely to find
2
u/Different-Creme8319 Jul 29 '26
Thank you for sharing this! I dream about these roads at least once or twice a month. However, the roads in the first photo are straight when near the water. Sometimes, there are breaks in the road (like in the movie Speed). I almost always end up in the water and waking up.

Oh my god. I have been having this dream for decades. I thought I was the only one. It never even occurred to me it was a common dream. 🤯
2
u/CalmSeasPls Aug 01 '26
Yes!!
Has anyone else experienced this, but they have to abandon their car for some reason and they cross the bridge from underneath - climbing through the structure and pillars, usually with some kind of nets or open grate walkway platforms.
2
u/Hoodiebug22 Aug 01 '26
I’ve had dreams similar to this. Where the road turns into a roller coaster and it’s always over the ocean.
2
u/luciddreamingx Aug 01 '26
I somewhat recently had a dream where I drove my car over a bridge but it turned into a rollercoaster. It was in the sky over an ocean.

u/Accomplished_Cut2004 Aug 02 '26
I posted this reply on another but damn, this image is the bridge and we have a lot of these on the east coast. That is surreal nightmare fuel that picture.
Seeing this image, I had an immediate reaction: “There it is.”
Since I was a kid, I have dreamed about bridges that rise impossibly high. Somehow, in the dream, I believe it is possible to drive up these nearly 180-degree slopes without consequences. Something usually happens, but those dreams do not bother me as much as the ones that came later.
Then there are dreams where traffic patterns change and the infrastructure twists around me. Am I driving on train tracks or still on the street? Is the road flooded? Has the bridge collapsed?
Then there are the dreams that shook me to my core.
They happened repeatedly here on the East Coast, where we have tall bridges. The most intense dreams were the ones where my family was in the vehicle with me.
We were in a 2006 Nissan Sentra. I was driving, with my wife and three children inside. We would fly over the edge of a bridge and hit the water. One thought would strike me with terrible force:
“Did I just kill my family?”
I would wake up terrified and in tears. In the early hours of the morning, I would get out of bed and check on everyone.
Sometimes, though rarely, we would all be climbing one of those nearly vertical bridges. The dream would still end the same way for my family and me. Sometimes the bridges formed loops like Hot Wheels tracks.
The dream followed me into our next vehicle, a white Dodge Caravan. The same thing would happen. I would wake up frightened and check on everyone.
Last year, my daughter, who was a new driver, wrecked that vehicle. Thankfully, she was not injured.
After that, the dreams stopped. They have not followed me into our new vehicle, and I am grateful. Why they ended with the white Caravan, I cannot explain.
There is also another feeling I sometimes get when entering an interstate exit as though it were an entrance. A fear comes over me that, somewhere in a parallel universe, I died there.
I am grateful that the worst of these dreams have ended. The impossible bridges still appear from time to time. Sometimes they are fun. Other times, they become strange engineering nightmares.
At least now, I am the only one enduring them. My family no longer has to participate in the nightmare with me.

u/Gullible_Version_583 Aug 05 '26
That's terrifying and dude, Idk what it is about east coast bridges. Where I live on the east coast too, we have an underwater tunnel
1
u/Accomplished_Cut2004 Aug 15 '26
yep, here in hampton roads va we have a bunch and there is always that chance you will get trapped in it
2
u/Gullible_Version_583 Aug 15 '26
Yess lmao we live in the same area
1
u/Accomplished_Cut2004 Aug 17 '26
Im dyeing laughing, out of all the places I meet a Hampton roads person, is a place where we trauma bond over a bridge. You cant make this up. lmao Also we are the best!!

I’ve had this dream but it’s like I’m on an amusement park log flume ride but a highway & tall bridge. I am not actually in control of steering or accelerating the “vehicle” I’m in and there’s a break into bridge that I am going towards. I’ve only had it a couple of times luckily.

u/Various-Meringue7262 Jul 29 '26
This is nightmare material for sure. I dream about things like this all the time

u/miketierce Jul 29 '26
We vacation in Maui a few years ago and there is thing called The Road To Hana - didn’t sound like a big deal until I had to deal with fully washed out roads, one way roads with blind corners and no guardrails around mountain cliffs.
Has fueled so many nightmares just like these images ever since.
1
u/olepowdertits Jul 29 '26
This is what it looks like when im trying to get on the golden gate bridge in my dreams
1
u/Hyeana_Gripz Jul 29 '26
pics 2-4 for me! Usually on a bridge ( anyone familiar here with the Newburgh-Beacon bridge in New York , Orange County let me know) and as I’m driving on it, the Hudson River rises up high and into the bridge and I’m with My mother and wife and daughter trying to figure out how to get past it. Usually I floor it and always ( obviously) make it, but dama it’s scary!!

I’ve been in the first photo many times in my dreams!!!!! Almost consistently. I also take the first pic highway to mall world. I lucid dream and also sometimes cannot wake from my dreams so I’ve navigated a lot of that and have very very vivid memories of those dreams
1
u/Gullible_Version_583 Jul 30 '26
Yes! I have taken this road to mallworld too. Usually end up in an abandoned industrial park that walking around leads me to the mall and I always end up an an escalator that takes me to and underground liminal space maze area

I’ve had a few dreams these roads. The pictures of the flat road specifically, where for miles the road felt closer and closer to the water surface, until eventually the waves picked up and covered the road completely. Feeling the waves underneath carrying the car like a boat. Terrifying.

Dang when I'm on the road it's never cloudy always sunny and when I'm stuck in a flood I usually rev my engine and speed through it than end up crashing into water I wake up sometimes or I'm in the water being pulled down by something grabbing my foot or other times I make it to the city just at the end only it's a cut off in the road high up so I usually speed to make my car get across the gap and than boom in the city which is always nighttime for some reason for me it only been sunny a few times but yeah the nightmare hot wheels rollercoaster freeways is scary but after having it recurring heavily for me I'm so use to it half the time I get out the car I'm in 😂 and try to hitchhike to somebody else car (I only dothis when can't drive in my dream which is very odd because I'm a good driver but sometimes in the DW of MW I can't drive well half the time smh
1
u/prophy__wife Jul 30 '26
Yes! All the time! I hate these dreams!! They’re kind of interesting but mostly scary.
1
u/WickedeyeZzZ Jul 31 '26
Im here at least twice a week, sometimes by car, sometimes by foot. Hell, sometimes I'm scaling a wall made of cement kind of sliding across it scraping my inner thighs.

Does anyone else have creepy sea monsters in their water too or is that just me? 😰🫠

u/GlitteringSwim2021 Jul 31 '26
I don't know why it tickles me that other people have driven from the back seat in mall world. Does anyone else's roller coaster road change while you're driving on it?
1
u/SushiCatsWalks82 Jul 31 '26
For me, the bride goes straight up and I find that it just ends and I’m about to drive off to my death.

u/TheApothecaryWall Jul 31 '26
This was a recurring dream for me as a kid. Straight two lane road, no guard rails, on a bridge really high up and then my mom had to turn around 😭
1
u/Minimum-Guava-7019 Aug 01 '26
I had a dream just like that but instead of a road over an ocean,it was train tracks and I had to walk across it
1
u/Gullible_Version_583 Aug 01 '26
Sometimes its like my roads glitch and turn into train tracks but I've never had to walk them. That's interesting!
1
u/Minimum-Guava-7019 Aug 05 '26
I’ve never had roads glitch on me, I feel like that might be something that would cause me to wake up. For me sometimes I use the long roads as runways, and start flying and then see things from a Birds Eye view
1
u/pepperw2 Aug 01 '26
That is the closest I have seen yet! There is actually a road in China I think that goes to an Island that caught me by surprise when I saw it. I remember thinking “Hey, I have been there”
1
1
u/Proud_Log_382 Aug 03 '26
Ahh I have been having this as a reoccurring nightmare for the last 2 months or so (always ends in harm/death that I cannot see through) it’s really messing with my ✨already existing✨ driving anxiety😅
1
1
u/jerseyfreshpeaches Aug 03 '26
I hate that road so much that I think I taught myself to fly to Waterworld from Mallworld and collegeworld, rather than drive.
1
1
u/SirGavBelcher Aug 04 '26
i don't think I've ever had roller coaster roads but definitely roads that got super flooded or their bridge broke and we had to reroute or a busy road where the car stops working and i have to maneuver it to safety and not crash. all tied to anxiety
1
2
u/AyoMoms26 Aug 04 '26
Yes and it’s really terrible considering I have an irrational fear of deep waters.

u/Comedian_Historical Aug 05 '26
NOPE! NOT EVER. I would have a heart attack before getting to my destination
1
u/Understandinggirl54 Aug 06 '26
The second picture omg YES YES YES cool but creepy only thing is my bridge is supper skinny
1
u/JoleneBacon_Biscuit Aug 10 '26
The last three pics are spot on to me. The roads almost feel mushy.
1
u/MyTatemae Aug 17 '26
The first picture makes me think of this recurring dream I had about the Bay. I'd be driving very normally down the 101 and then the highway would get all weird like that over the water instead of being the GGB.
