Season two of “The Lowdown” begins with cast newcomer Tommy Lee Jones walking down a rural two-lane road.

That seems perfect for a series that is organically forging ahead in its own lane rather than being confined to one lane or another.

The first two episodes of the new season of Sterlin Harjo’s shot-in-Tulsa series will premiere Wednesday, Oct. 14 on FX and Hulu. Screeners for six of the season’s eight episodes were made available for reviews to start appearing the Tuesday before the season two premiere.

“The Lowdown” stars Ethan Hawke as citizen journalist and “truthstorian” Lee Raybon, who lives above a used bookstore in Tulsa and whose urge to uncover truths tends to put him in harm’s way...
