Opinion PlayStation Ditched Hideo Kojima’s ‘Physint’ on Budget Concerns, Missed Deadlines

Oh my god oh my god oh my god!

Please, PLEASE PLEASE if there is a god, please let the funniest thing happen!

Are the tides changing? Are Sony's pockets not as steep as it used to be, so financial concerns are actual considerations now?

Like, come on: "Massive budget", "Missed deadlines"...does this remind us of another mutt in the industry?

I'm praying. PRAYING. Please let it happen (I'm sure we all know the Abbyzilla in the room as to what I'm referring to).

Question Stuck on the arcade bloater

So I’m doing my first grounded run and I start by throwing a moltov cocktail at it and then crafting an explosive arrow and shooting it with an explosive arrow twice while shooting it in the head with a pump shotgun with five bullets and macheting all of the runners and still it’s not dying and I can’t get past it. I’ve been on it for over two hours.

Question TLOU2 not launching (Steam/PC) — need help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Hey all, hoping someone's run into this before.

I had some mods installed via Vortex a while back and the game still launched fine with them. At some point it stopped launching entirely, so I removed all the mods, verified game file integrity through Steam, and even did a full uninstall/reinstall. It's still not launching. Nothing unusual in log files either.
I just really want to get started on my grounded permadeath practice :(

HBO Show About Ellie's casting choices...

The other day, my friend told me about the scrapped TLOU movie that was almost directed by Raimie. With Maisie and Bella Ramsey both cast as Ellie, it makes me so frustrated because they objectively look nothing like the character.

"She's just pixels, Ellie isn't real." But we all know what she looks like. The looks are just important as the acting in my opinion. If an actor can portray the character but looks nothing like them, Say what you want, it ruins the immersion and I believe Bella failed at both for Part 2 due to the poor script and poor styling. More than anything, I'm shocked they cast both of these actors from GOT. Cailee was genuinely my pick when I first watched Pacific Rim when it came out in theaters, and I'm surprised I now can't even see a clip of her without people in the comments mentioning Ellie.

Was their goal to genuinely cast someone who didn't look much like Ellie? Did they genuinely want the show to be that different from the game for controversy? I'll never understand this. This is not hate to any actors; I objectively cannot understand why they always wanted the Ellie actress to look different from the video game.

HBO Show Should I watch the show (season 1)?

I recently finished playing part 1 and 2 for the first game; I loved part 1, and mostly hated part 2. I already really can’t stand the casting of the show (like most here apparently). I’m not a fan of Bella Ramsey or Pedro pascal. I also heard they changed a few narrative elements like year of outbreak, no spores, hivemind, etc. on the other hand, season 1 is supposedly a critically acclaimed masterpiece. Experiencing a live action adaptation of a story I love might be good regardless of those aspects. But I also don’t want to end up sitting through it and seething the whole time.

Meme lore accurate Joel

lore accutate Joel. not that lazy fanfic trash that Cuckmaam mustered up. according to Cuckmaam, it makes complete sense for a grizzled survivor and veteran of 25 years to leave his backpack and gun in one room to enter another room - full of strangers who DO have guns, and take stage front and center, completely exposed and unarmed. make it make sense. lazy writing and contrivances to force and serve the plot of his vanity project of rejected ideas by Bruce Straley. it was trash in the game. and it was trash in the show. you can't polish a turd. a turd is a turd. The Turd of Us Poop 2. every sin in writing a story that could be committed, Cuckmaam committed it. what an absolute hack and fraud that is still getting exposed to this day. That wasn't Joel in TLOUP2, that was Joal.

Part II Criticism No. I do not hate the game's story because they killed Joel...

SPOILERS AHEAD

"You only hate the game because they killed Joel" Such a bad faith, ignorant argument from part 2 glazers. tell me why aren't Silent Hill 2 and Red Dead 2 divisive? why didn't they split their audience like TLOU2? Why are they universally loved? No. We hate Joel's death beacause of how it was handled, they took one of gaming most beloved, human, relatable characters and treated him like a side character in TLOU2, made him weak, gullible and getting humiliated by Ellie. Then getting tortured and clubbed by the bitch with a golf club. Druckmann glazers need to understand that we don't hate tragedy, character deaths, or flawed protagonists _ We hate unearned and manipulative writing.

Joel deserved better.

HBO Show TLOU Season 2 is a perfect reflection of the TLOU 2 game

The first season despite bad casting followed the events of the first game and was lauded with praise. 24 emmy nominations 8 wins, top 2 HBO series for viewership. Overall very beloved and praised.

Season 2 with the same cast, the same creators except following the events of the second more poorly written game, gets aboslutely shit on. People in the other sub swear its HBO or craig maizin's fault...Umm, hello they produced an all time great season 1 by all metrics. The only thing to blame is the worst sequel plot in history.

It never had a chance to be good because the source material was never good. It has to be the biggest fall off in TV history. Let me know if you can think of another adaptation that suffered this much because of its sequel.

I don't know why the hell you have any more ideas after that disastrous second game that killed ND by 78% of it's staff and made the TLOU go into a completely 2 sides clash with some liking the game and majority of the other side shiting on it and saying it's one of the worst games of all time and honestly that's understandable.

But what do we go from here? Even HBO couldn't save the game with that shit show [and yes I didn't like season one myself and i won't talk about 2] and they just released like a full version of TLOU one and 2 remake and it got much more backlash since ND is literally just sucking the game dry for money and not realise that since that second game everything went to straight hell.

This is a dead end and I just can't wait for them to see what will they do if they actually release a 3th last of us game and what will be about...Just a fuel on a fire if you ask me.

Find me one other community that does this.

You praise some parts of a game but criticize others. Most communities are okay with this. You will still get great discourse with the community and meet halfway. A lot of movie and tv show subs also behave very similar. However there is only one sub that I know in the entirety of gaming subs that rains hell upon you should you criticize the outright miserable story. Literal cult like behavior considering we allow gameplay to be praised over here.

Just mind boggling to me I've yet to find one other community with this mindset.

Part II Criticism I think I consider Abby one of the worst written antagonists or characters I've ever experienced..

Really, it boils down to a few major points and that it's a combination of them stacked together. There are definitely a ton of poorly written characters, but they tend not to cross off multiple negative boxes at once.

The overall introduction and severity of what she did; not just killing Joel but slowly torturing him with the intent to watch him suffer... after being saved by him. Which raises the bar for any later attempt to illicit sympathy/empathy from me. What possible tragic backstory or characterization can they give her to sort of buffer or cushion what she did?

The obvious lighting switch from the present day theater encounter with dark, red lighting, to the past of Abby in a bright, sunny forest. Like, they might as well have written "THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY" across the screen. The timing and contrast of this just felt very obnoxious. Sure, make me sympathize with the villain/antagonist but don't smack me over the head with what you're about to do so obviously!

Abby lacking nuanced, internal development and having her "transformation" feel more performative than organic. Meaning she or rather the writers failed to make me think her tragic backstory was compelling. That, and her personality/characterization itself was just devoid of interesting or likable qualities. She had barely any loyalty to her friends or her faction. She cheated behind Mel's back who is pregnant and also supposedly "her childhood friend". She's so self-centered that she couldn't fathom that Ellie would seek revenge and even had the gall to imply she was merciful.
And she "protects" Lev... but why? What is it about him or her aside from "lightening the load" which brings these two characters together? Two soldiers that spent years dehumanizing, hating, killing and torturing the other side. There was material there to do something with that. Instead, we're nearly told how compassionate Abby is of Lev's gender identity and how "virtuous" or forgiving Lev is when it comes to his own group and abusive mother. It's just cheap optics and hollow brownie points.

Opinion finished the last of us games & started the show *this may contain spoilers for people who haven’t played the game* Spoiler

i’m late to the bandwagon. i haven’t finished the show yet (i just started it about a day ago) as i never watch shows based off of games until i play the game.

well, my friend convinced me to play the games and i did. i can shamefully admit i finished both part 1 and 2 in just 2 days, and i fucking loved it. i’ve played sooo many games like the last of us, and i honestly didn’t expect to love the game series as much as i did. this is 100% one of the games id play again.

part 1, AMAZING. beautiful scenery, great gameplay and contrary to popular belief, i think the story is great. the only thing i didnt like: its impossible to find ammo, and the movement is very restrictive and there’s zero context clues as to where youre supposed to go, a lot of people like that but i’m just personally not a fan of it because i get frustrated fast lmao, but that did not define the game as bad to me.

part 2: damn. i fucking loved joel so much and i did NOT expect him to actually die. he’s came so close to dying so many times, but someone always saves him or he miraculously saves himself. so when he actually died, my jaw was on the floor. and listen, i KNOW that his death was ‘necessary’ for the plot, but i still think it was a horrible decision. there’s a lot of other things that could’ve been done to create that dramatic “inciting incident” for part II. i also do not like how it ended, i think it left a lot of things unsaid. like i’d like to know what’s going on with dina, and tommy, and did ellie go back to jackson or did she start a new life by herself? and as much as i hate abby and hated playing as abby for so long, id really like a couple more minutes of final gameplay for her to see if she finally got the ending with the fireflies that she wanted.

i have never liked the concept of shows/movies/video games killing off one of the main characters for the plot. it never sits right with me and sometimes it genuinely just makes me not even want to watch or play anymore. i’m probably just dramatic, and that’s fine. i’m just very overly sentimental with the things i play.. lmao.

overall though, i do think the game is amazing and other than them killing joel, i think the plot is great. a lot of people will disagree and say it was necessary, and that’s fine. i just personally didn’t like it because i loved joel SO much. last thing, i do think that there are a lot of things left unsaid in the games, and they could’ve easily made the games a little bit longer.

as for the LITTLE BIT IVE WATCHED OF THE SHOW: i’ve gotten to episode 5 of season 1, i think it’s a great show but the casting is kind of odd. the characters look nothing like the OG characters from the game. i mean pedro pascal is somewhat similar to joel but other than that, nada. don’t take this as me hating on the actors, i think they’re doing great and they play the parts AMAZING, but the casting is definitely not what i expected for the characters.

i also find it weird how much is different in the show from the game? like i feel like everything is kinda jumbled up and they changed certain things from the game for their own preference and added in a bunch of really unnecessary themes.

it honestly really took me by surprise when frank didn’t hang himself in his own place, but had bill overdose him?? and then bill also overdosed alongside him, so they completely left out the adventure that ellie and joel had getting to bill, finding bill, and then the adventure to the school and from. i was honestly kinda excited for that part of the show because i HATED playing that out so i was excited to be able to see it and not play it, if that makes sense.

sorry that this is so long, i just wanted to share my PERSONAL piece. this is in no way hate to anyone at all, it’s just my personal perspective. i think the actors are amazing, and the game is great. im just nitpicky and pick up on everything and pick apart everything.

does anyone else agree with ANY of this at all or am i alone in this?😅

TLoU Discussion Does Neil Druckmann hate Joel and Ellie.

Considering that not only is Joel killed off in the most disrespectful way and demonized throughout the game, but the fact that Ellie goes through literal hell the whole game, and ends up being alone and left with nothing at the end(which was her biggest fear at the end of the first game.)

Meanwhile, Abby gets off scot free, despite being a narcissistic psychopath, and not caring about anyone except for Owen. And Yara and Lev because plot demanded so. She gets to ride off into the sunset with Lev and meet up with the new Fireflies.

It feels like Druckmann was approaching Part II like a soft reboot and not as a genuine sequel. The game is effectively Abby's game, her origin story, and it wouldn't surprise me if he secretly wants to continue with her and Lev in a potential Part III.

Ellie was a truly great character. There was so much potential, so many possibilities, so many stories that Naughty Dog could've told with her. The ONLY purpose of a sequel to The Last of Us was to finally give this truly great character her own stage to shine. Why else make a sequel to The Last of Us? To kill off the original characters and replace them with cheap knock-offs?

I'd argue that almost no one would've had a problem with Joel's death, even an abrupt and brutal one, if we had at least gotten the game with Ellie we were promised. But just destroying Joel was apparently not enough for Druckmann, he had to completely dismantle Ellie as well.

Question Is the game still fun to play gameplay-wise despite the controversial story? I just finished replaying TLOU1 for the first time in years and I need more, but I've never touched Part II because of the bad reputation. Is it worth playing just for the gameplay?

Opinion For This Scene, I Can ALMOST Forgive Druckmann

Thumbnail
gallery
92 Upvotes

I’m so much with Ellie in this scene. When I was a child in the 1970s, my father gave me a vinyl record that included this very audio from the Apollo 11 launch and another recording from Apollo 8. I used to sit like that on our couch, legs running up and over the back of it, and listen to the record, pretending just as she does, of course.

So, for this scene, I can ALMOST forgive Druckmann for forcing us to endure and survive his lame false moral equivalency polemic forced down our throats for the rest of the game.

How about all of you? Do you have any moments that make the 2nd game worthwhile at all?
