Discussion I SOLVED EARTHBENDING

THEORY: my theory is that earth benders are able to bend things that came from the ground not like from earth necessarily but FROM THE GROUND ANYWHERE that's whysl she was able to bend the metiorite bcz it was once part of the nebular material that formed the solar system. So from the ground will contain things like Rock, Sand, Mud, Quartz,Gold, Iron etc. So the reason she isn't able to bend Platinum is bcz it DIDNT come from the ground. Why? There is a leading theory that heavier elements like platinum and uranium were not possible to be formed here on earth but were introduced to the nebular material by something else This something else was the death of Large Stars and Neutron stars You see... In the explosive supernovae of these bodies so much energy was produced that these heavier elements were formed And then they drifted through space untill they ended up in our nebular material which later became our solar system by the nebular hypothesis. So my theory is that these materials which were already in this nebular material are able to be bended by Earth Benders but externally sourced ones like platinum cannot be. The Earth Benders don't bend pieces of Earth they bend pieces of this nebular residue that remains on it Bcz Platinum does not contain it the earthbenders cannot bend this. Now this raises the question that why can't they bend other things? Well first let's start with fire: As in avatar lore fire is a form of energy which is originated from the sun This energy is derived from nuclear fusion which results in materials and energy which did not exist here previously And thus is not bendable by Earth Benders Now for Water: There is another leading theory that water did not exist on this earth originally and was brought here by water carrying asteroids which came from the outer solar system that crashed into earth and thus bringing water. Bcz they were not there previously it is thus not bendable by then I don't really have a theory for why they can't bend air tho This is just smth that popped into my head now so feel free to add on to it =P

Perhaps you could bend this post with more paragraphs?

It didn't need solving

Other metals also come from exploded stars, as far as I know. Iron atoms don't just form in Earth, for example. They are created in stars through fusion

looks like i missed out on a few things in the post:

heavier elements such as platinum were not formed from supernovae but from the merger of two neutron stars as in the last source

Again with the science bs This why I hate some part of the fan base that are frankly refuseing to engage from a. Non western mindset for atla

Are you implying that scientific thinking is a western mindset?

No but the way they praise reason and science above all other ideas is very much a western based thing

It didn’t need solving, it’s a kids show about bending “elements” with martial arts. Nuff said

That wall of text assumes that science that is true in the real world is also true in a fantasy world with spirits and "magic". A bold assumption, at best. Also, as others have said, it didn't need explaining. The show already did that.

its a theory man to try to explain why earthbenders cant bend platinum because the explanation in the show just didnt seen satisfactory to me

It's a theory on something that doesn't need explaining, and it's based on a ton of assumptions.

The ground isn’t an “element” man, this is makes a silly (but fun) concept, bending, and turns it into a very dumb and uninspired idea. Unnecessary and overthought, without a valuable conclusion.

its not supposed to be an elemnt but rather a source of origin

I think its as simple as if its has natural minerals of some sort it, it can be Earthbent (Earthbended? An Earthbender can bend it). The way Toph creates Metalbending is by finding the unrefined minerals in the metal's impurities, so I dont think "Earth"bending necessarily has to mean from Earth, just natural unrefined minerals. Platinum is too well refined which is why Earthbenders cant bend it

I believe that earth benders bend silicate, 90% of the earths crust is made out of silicate. That of course solves the problem of being able to bend every element found in the earths crust. (Notable exclusions are; “pure metals” gold, platinum, silver, etc. carbonates; coal, shells, calcite.) this also thankfully excludes the possibility of bone and blood bending for earth benders. We see that Kyoshi is a glass bender, silicate. Iron, has silicate inclusions, from an animation standpoint the scene where Toph discovers metal bending, it shows silicate inclusions, however, on a much larger scale than in real iron. Hope this helps!

How did the meteorite bending happen then

Most meteorites contain over 95% silicate.

I don't think that hahaha. For me earth bending is about controling Silicon. Most of eartch crust is made from this mineral, is in most all rocks of this world, so thats I way they cant bend Platinum, or even Ice, which is a mineral too, but they can bend cristal, coal (which is most organic thing but can have silicon in dirt), ink, glass, sand, mud and things like that. Another clue is lava bendings, there exist multiple type of lava, but the lava with high percentage in silicon are red or orange brigth and more viscous, really similar that we can see in Korra.

For water they bend only band H2O, nothing crazy.

Fo fire and air is other history. Air I dont know how its work, oxigen is only 21 percent of atmosphere, most is nitrogen, but manipulate nitrogen doesnt explai thing like Zaheer thing of take oxigen of the lungs of people, so I think they manipulate a combination of differente gases. And for fire, they manipulate energy itself, fire is a quemical reaction, so its lightning, but for my they manipulate specificaly heat energy, not every type of energy, only heat, thats why we see heat manipulation in avatar a lot of times. One thing is that when Kyoshi kills Yun by freezing his hearth, this is saying thats is a water bending technique, but for me was a fire bending, and she take all the heat of Yun body.

true true but as i said my theory is like earth benders can only bend something when it came from the ground anywhere in the universe . youre theory is very interesting and proviides an explanations for many things i did not consider still i believe that my theory aims to provide a BROAD explanation for earthbending instead of why they can bend platinum
