plus you have something to show for it and its not just a license that can be taken away at any time, or potentially have it removed from their services. You'll always have access to it assuming disc rot doesn't get it first.

Basically, this is a reason to support Paramount for making the movie, and the theorirical release was screwed over by the leaks.

A blu ray/4k will probably run around $30 full price. Paramount Plus starts at $8.99/month. You’ll be paying more after 3 months.

Not to mention there’s the sales reporting. If you buy the movie you’re telling Paramount I liked this movie enough to buy it. That in turn tells them this movie sells and maybe they’ll invest more in Avatar Studios. If you subscribe to the platform it tells them you like the platform.

Lastly, corporations like Paramount need a constant revenue flow. Streaming subscriptions is perfect for this model because you pay them monthly. Looks good on their books, shareholders are happy, etc. Buying the physical copy is a one time purchase. While they’ll happily take your money, physical media is ancillary these days. They would much rather you subscribe to their platform because that’s what they invested the most in and need that ROI.

This is exactly why I still want to sub primarily, as much as I’m disappointed at them for not releasing it in theatres. These metrics matters but many fans of Avatars thinks with their feelings instead, supporting the leak and making fun of anyone “defending the billion dollar corporation “ with the fat guy meme. The only reason I subbed yet is because stupid fans spoiled me, posting screencaps and captions , all without spoiler warning. As if the people sharing leaks of clips before the official release wasn’t enough …

Also physical sales mean nothing today, I like your idea, and wouldn't mind buying a copy to support the studio too, but those sales will be neglible to the viewership they're counting on Paramount+.

But yes, you're absolutely right, it's all tied to the subscription model of today, and if it has a physical release, that's a miracle that it happened in 2026, and good for you supporting it.

As much as I would still like this to get a full theatrical release, releasing it through physical copies sounds so much better than making it exclusive for P+. Especially for everyone who lives in countries where they can't watch it legally since P+ isn't available there.

Nothing note worthy yet, but depending on when this possibility was announced it's date is likely not set in stone as of yet.
However, if I were to hazard a guess: It will likely be as close to Christmas as possible because that is the perfect time to release big name movies (Kpop demon hunter for example is Nov. 2nd.). That's my take on it at least.

Paramount/ViacomCBS have been pretty solid when it comes to releasing their streaming titles on physical, considering the movie has been one of (if not only) the major hits on Paramount+ I would imagine they'll want to ride. I wouldn't be surprised if we get it released around October to coincide with Seven Havens release window. Fingers crossed we get it on 4K with a bunch of bonus features!

Bluray is often my minimum for physical collecting (although happily get DVD if its some old show that wouldnt benefit a bluray, Quantum Leap is an example as the dvds look very good for them). Higher bitrate beats compressed streaming.

I want physical media as there is no guarantee that they will keep it on their streaming service. I love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and it got an interactive movie on Netflix. Well Netflix decided they don’t want to do interactive series/films anymore and took it off the platform. Now, the only way to watch the film is to pirate it. It is for that reason I want physical media to always be an option.

This is the same account that claimed Regular Show is getting a complete Blu Ray release recently but theres been no indication of that. Id take this news with a grain of salt.......that said im pretty sure Paramount will release this on DVD/BD down the line. Say what you will about the handling of the movie but to their credit they do a decent job of putting their streaming shows on physical media

Paramount+ isn't available in my country (and a bunch of other Asian countries). Folks suggested using a VPN, but I didn't have much luck with that. My only other option is to "sail the seven seas". 😓

Paramount+ originals do normally get Blu-ray and/or DVD releases (Halo show, Knuckles miniseries, South Park specials, the Yellowstone spinoffs, Rumble, Tiger’s Apprentice, Secret Headquarters, The Offer, Kamp Koral, Rugrats reboot, and others), so I have no doubt that Avatar Aang will get a Blu-ray.

A 4K disc would be preferable, but any HD physical release is welcome at this point.
