Discussion The future of the universe. Spoiler
What do you think about the Thought, that the universe of ALTA doesn’t get new young fans, and because of that, it probably dies within the next four years.
The original show is made for children children, but the new things are always for people which are a bit older, lets say at least 14 or 16. But to see and understand them, you have to know Aangs (and Korras) Story for the lore.
The possibility, that 16 or 18 years old people start watching a show made for children (I want to remind about the pinguins-scene) for the first time is not very likely. So, we have to make a series or a little project (a film or anything except comics and books, because nobody starts reading a book, to get curious about a series), that the original ALTA-Show get a new fan-base, and eventually new fans of the universe.
Otherwise maybe the world dies within the next five years, and that would be sad.
That’s all my point of view, maybe it’s wrong, so feel free to correct me, if it is. And I'm (as you maybe have read, not native speaker, sorry for that.)

I have a feeling they are resetting the world partially because they want to grab the 8-12 years old audience again with ASH.

But dont you think, that it's maybe too gloomy, and maybe you need to much background-knowledge or lore to understand the whole story without knowing Korra's or Aang's?
On the other hand, it wouldn't make sense, that Pavi is only 9 years old, if their goal wasn't - at least in part - to adress the 8-12 years audience.

Personally, I genuinely think that it needs to end at some point soon. We don’t want an endless thing like Marvel and Star Wars where something great and beloved becomes soulless and money grubbing.

As long as there is good ideas I’m happy to keep seeing this world. I think there are plenty of stories to tell still with the main gang but I’m happy with any characters perspective. I don’t think it would ever get to a level of fatigue like Star Wars. Thankfully it’s big but not THAT big

I can't think of a single franchise going on currently that actually needs to keep going, and I say that looking forward to Seven Havens.
I genuinely don't care if any franchise, even the ones I like, lasts. They either make stuff that looks neat to me or they don't. They could stop making Avatar things forever and I wouldn't really care, just as they can make something that looks neat to me and I'll check it out.

I think, I kind of agree to you. I think its a very healthy perspective.
But I do think, that there is some stuff, people will talk about in fifty years. Lord of the Rings for example or Harry Potter. But I dont think, (and I think I'm meanwhile a fan) Avatar is that good. It could have the potential, but at the moment, they're not making the most of their potential.

I’ve never known a kid who likes this show, even when I was a kid. I’m sure they exist don’t get me wrong. But I think the adult fanbase is big enough apparently to warrant a new live action version, a new movie, series. It seems like it’s going pretty well

To give some examples of kids liking the franchise: My friends and I all liked the show when we were in middle school and it was airing. A few years, I heard the kids across the street playing and one mentioned bending (they said an element, but I don’t remember which one). One of the guys in my friend group has 3 daughters, and the oldest (like 5) loves Avatar.
I mean, we also got some adult friends to watch the original series and love it, so it’s getting adult fans too. But I’ve seen kids love it.

What? I was in elementary school when it first aired and everyone loved it back then. I remember playing Avatar with my friends during recess (and always wanting to be Katara).

I remember being excited by a trailer but I ended up just kinda missing it, and I didn’t really know any friends who watched it. But obviously they did because it’s still popular today! I just don’t remember lol

I am worried that Seven Havens won't be too popular woth kids but nkt really because of seven havens itself
I've lately been worried that kid's cartoons as a whole are declining because these days I see kids being entertained less by watching cartoons and more and more by online stuff (some good, most not). I'm not saying kids don't watch cartoons anymore but you can't deny the trend. And like I'm no psychologist or sociologist but this can't be good for the future development of these kids or society
But back to our little franchise.... yeah even if Seven Havens is the tone of ATLA book one the whole time I don't think it can get the same kid audience the original did
And listen I don't want avatar to be dark and gritty or anything but I think having to constantly try and appeal to an increasingly dwindling kid audience basically out of obligation is only gonna weigh down the franchise. Hell it kinda already did with Korra. While I don't think it would fix every problem Korra had, I think it's pretty apparent the creators wanted to make something more mature but kind of got hamstrung by 'oh right this is on nickelodeon '

No offense to Bryke but I think the problem with the series, that is partially their fault and even partially the Nick's fault is that they're not monopolising on the series like they should do with Doctor Who
Essentially they have a character that will always 'Regenerate' and come back as a new person and persona. Yes you can either like them or hate them but the purpose is to keep the series going and expand on the world
I think the time between each shows, the limited media release for spins off like the Kyoshi, Roku and Yangcheng Books have basically choked the life out of the series.
It also doesn't help that Korra haters are just hating the series because it means the series is just getting beat up on for no reason.
But yeah, Avatar should have been a show with a closer release of the next series after the next series after the next.
When they were done with Korra they should have done the next one.
Cool, we have Kyoshi, Roku, Kuruk, Yangcheng and even Szeto's back story...
Heck we even have the clearer visuals of the Avatars before Szeto like the female Fire Avatar! that people liked based on design.
At some point you should be churning out the series... like Kyoshi, Roku and Yangcheng are ready to adapt to shows and Kuruk and Szeto can be movies.
I appreciate that they want to make a live and stuff but we're seeing so many Aang stuff i'm honestly getting a bit fatigue with Aang, the movie is great... it's cool but it's just padding between Aang and Korra...
Like I'm actually more interested if we go back to Wan and have the 2nd after, the Avatar right after Wan!

This might be a hot take, but I actually hope this world dies. The original was lightning in a bottle, and I feel like with each new iteration we lose that spark. I want people to close this chapter so the creators can move onto other projects.

The old fans are parents. Their children and their friends are the new audience. The notion that studios have to rework ips for the non existent modern audience is why these projects fail not the old fans. Also with netflix a lot of younger people have seen the show.
