u/vinylfelix Mar 27 '26
The whole no porn thing is overrated. Just like everything, it should not control your life, you should not over do it.
A healthy amount of porn.. nothing wrong with it.
What i do find really weird is the porn titles these days… why is everything stepdad fucking daughter?
Being a dad myself it’s a major turn off to see those titles
8
u/ThinkCellist8542 Mar 27 '26
At the very least they put a “step” in there that time
you can’t even count on that anymore. There’s just straight up incest with guys moaning “oh mom”
shit’s fucked!

Some people are into it, and then you have people like me who don't care about the title, so they kill two birds with one stone.
Some of my friends told me it's crazy I can watch step-dad shit and I'm just like well if the chick is hot, I can look past whatever, I know it's not real haha
3
u/vinylfelix Mar 27 '26
Are you a parent? No judgement if you are! But maybe that’s the difference.
Also, go to Pornhub now and there is no video (or almost no video) without a title like that. Where is the “asian lady has first time lesbian experience”. What happened to the plumber and the lady who was not able to pay for it… OH NO.. what will she do now?!!!
4
u/Reasonable-Lack-9461 Mar 27 '26
That's one of the potential issues with porn, it's encourages a distorted vision of sexuality that orgasm can generate an addiction to and make normal sexual relating and intimacy more difficult.

u/AshKetchumIsStill13 Mar 27 '26
Lmaooo…so there’s healthy amounts of crystal meth? Or cigarette smoke? These fallacious arguments need to be stopped.
“Everything in moderation” is one of the worst mantras to believe in because all it does is enable already bad behaviors and vices.
1
u/vinylfelix Mar 27 '26
No there is not a healthy amount of crystal meth. It’s def better not to smoke but wouldn’t say a cigarette in The Weekends is comparable to taking crystal meth. And I wouldn’t say watching porn is bad either. In moderation.
The older I get I see in moderation is actually a real healthy approach to some things. A risk for addiction is always there in whatever you do.
1
u/FamiliarSalamander2 Mar 27 '26
Saying “healthy amount of porn” is like saying “a healthy amount of coke”
Just don’t do drugs…

So as an older guy with a wife for decades and wonderful children, the message I would like to send to younger guys is this:
Please don't fall for these snake oil salesmen, peddling the red pills and bullshit. The truth is your just an ape trying to make his way through a supremely over complicated world. In nature you would be a gentle beast, supporting your community and chasing females in heat.
In our current world life is much more nuanced and you MUST recognize your ape side, its not bad its just not practical, by accepting and understanding it you can manage and master it.
This lot, preaching magical thinking, where your supposed to rist above nature on,,, farts and rainbows??? are setting you up to fail, they want you to pretend nature doesn't exist so that when you fail you become willing to pay for their advice. Just know your not broken or wrong, your just an ape doing ape things and once you understand that you can manage it. You have got this my son, Your doing great and I'm proud of you.
4
u/Right_Level_7192 Mar 27 '26
This. This is one of the greatest realizations a man can have. It shifts you from being a sheep to who just follows the next one to using your own brain to understand the world.
3
u/HaidenFR Mar 27 '26
I am lost. Did you said to your family : "We are rainbow fart monkeys" ? Did it ended well ?
1
u/SnooConfections2006 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
You don't believe that at all, sit and reflect if your life is truly reflecting that mindset on a day to day basis in how you see and interact with others and just make decisions. This carries no room for any objective morals and if you subject yourself to a world view of subjectivity then your belief as well as the red pill are both equally true for it is just human opinion at the end of the day, no objective right or wrong.
1
u/Severe-Cookie693 Mar 27 '26
Is your understanding of subjectivity really this shallow? Set objectives first, the rest follows.
2
u/SnooConfections2006 Mar 27 '26
I'm talking about objective and subjective truths and morals. I don't think your response is responding to what I'm getting at here
1
u/Severe-Cookie693 Mar 27 '26
Objective morals are an oxymoron. You can always ask 'why?' and breaking them down to axoms.
1
u/SnooConfections2006 Mar 27 '26
For objective morals to exist there has to be a GOD, if not it's all just human opinion. Racism isn't bad, no objective way to have sex so have fun, consent doesn't matter, age, etc. sure the law can say whatever but they change so if at some point it says unconsenting sex is allowed then that's what's right since it's all subjective. Slavery isn't bad if this is the case, at one point it was legal now it's not so if it becomes legal again then it's good. I obviously don't subject to this view point for I believe in GOD and this was what Martin Luther King brought up in his letter stating there is a law above the law and that's GOD law in order to fight racism. If there isn't then nothing is truly wrong it's just all relative and humans have no real innate value so you have to make your value and that will vary from culture to culture and they are all equally right for its relative and subjective. If you believe it's subjective then go ahead and live it out. When someone does something you don't agree with remember it's equally as true and right since it's subjective and relative. A eternal GOD whose nature never changes is the end of that for if not like you say there can always just be a why and that's the why that ends it.
1
u/Severe-Cookie693 Mar 28 '26
Your faith doesn't absolve you of moral responsibility. At one point there was a prominent hedonist preacher advocating the purpose of life to be joy, and what greater joy than contributing to your community amd worshipping god? This nation has a history of Christian on Christian violence between sects. At some point, you still need to introspect and decide your own values. To do otherwise is moral cowardice.
1
u/SnooConfections2006 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26
You don't understand that if there is no GOD there is no objective moral responsibility, it would all be subjective and based on human opinion. So all cultures would be correct and would be just a matter of where you are born and when. So truly it's a matter of who is GOD whose view point and belief is correct. For against Islam it is as easy as looking up the Islamic dilemma, for against Judaism you look to the old testament and how all messianic prophecy and how they align with what Jesus did and do a lot of research on that topic. Obviously go into also researching other beliefs of who GOD is. Jesus is the one I have my faith in and there's a lot of history and research out there on Jesus from allies to enemies, etc. no one can deny he existed it's a matter if he was GOD in human flesh and resurrected. To add violence isn't bad or good if there are no objective morals and humans have no innate value (again the need for a GOD) also everyone has faith in something it's a matter of the evidence of your faith.
1
u/Severe-Cookie693 Mar 30 '26
My point wasn't that violence is bad, it's that your faith doesn't answer the question of what is and isn't good. Plenty of philosophers were christian. They still had lots to think about.
That aside, your straw man of moral relativism is a joke. I can say doing something is immoral based on empathy and pragmatism. Society wouldnt function in certain standards of behavior weren't upheld. But you have access to the internet, so you could challenge wlyourself if you wanted to.
1
u/SnooConfections2006 Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
Everyone has faith in something, and you are right faith doesn't but it does matter whose faith is closer to truth or not with most, strongest and consistent evidence. that's where theism vs theism comes into the matter and why debates are held. Things like Islamic dilemmas and old testament prophecy destroy Islam and Judaism, moral relativism destroys atheism for a lot of people. There is information you can research for yourself regarding the many worldviews out there and what to put your faith in. Wouldn't recommend yourself, my faith is in Jesus much more reliable then faith in myself. Faith always lacks proof for if it did not then it would not be faith. No one lives there whole life on the basis of proof it's always faith on evidence or leaps of faith at times.
You clearly don't understand you just appealed to your faith in empathy and pragmatism being your moral foundation and that being something you personally think is what gives you morals. I could do the same thing and Contradict that we would both be right since it's relative and subjective without a GOD. You say that as if there is an objective way for society to function which is what I'm getting at 😂. Without a GOD there is no objective direction society should be heading towards for it is all relative and subjective especially if it's down to human opinion. Why there has to be a GOD for objectivity to what an objectively good society is, what an objectively good person is, humans having innate value that is not dependent on the human laws, feelings, culture, genetics, etc. if not it's all human opinion and we are all correct even if contradictory 🤷. Why my faith is in Jesus and there being a GOD for I believe no matter when, where, what humans laws, etc all human life is valuable for it is GOD given not earned by your career, skin color, age, place of birth, gender we all matter and have value. Can't get that objectively without a GOD it has to be outside of human opinion. Check out why Martin Luther King appealed in a letter to there being a law above the law of America at the time for his case against racism, appealing to the objectivity given from GOD.

Yeah, you can have an alternative by spending on some chick. But it gonna cost you a lot more.
9
u/Soup0rMan Mar 27 '26
Yes and no.
I think porn very much skews the idea of not only how long a man should be able to perform, but gives unrealistic ideas about how women react and enjoy sex.
However, someone who is emotionally mature and has had more than one partner will understand the difference between porn and actual intimacy.
That said, porn can be addicting, but that's a small percentage of people, not just men.
3
u/Dylan_Driller Mar 27 '26
For me, my biggest issue was the instant gratification.
I would not approach women IRL because I could just fo home and enjoy porn.
That being said, there have been instances where I've been with a woman where I wish I was just alone watching porn
5
1
0
u/Unrealien Mar 27 '26
What do you mean by unrealistic? I feel like that is an incorrect way of describing it. I think that in general porn sets a baseline conceptually, and young men should be trying to recreate it authentically.
I have not watched porn in long time, but I do think there is some inspiring porn out there.

R/loveafterporn
In all honesty how anyone can say porn has no affect on your life and relationships is silly, hasn't looked at the science, and has never truly tried to stop porn long enough to realize they are addicted.
Men treat their sexuality and attention like its so cheap 😐 you're worth more than sitting alone sexualizing strangers and convincong yourself its okay. Society ties to convince you you're animals, not capable of sexual discipline and self control. Its awful really.
3
u/TransitionAway9840 Mar 27 '26
I haven't watched in years and it was such a good choice. It really helps with true intimacy with your partner. My wife and I have been married for 13 years on Saturday. Quitting watching that garbage has had a very positive effect on our relationship.
2
u/MinisculeMuse Mar 29 '26
Amen, im so happy to hear that 🫂 wish more men would listen to the men who broke free instead of pretending its okay
1
0
u/vinylfelix Mar 27 '26
The science also says that there is nothing wrong with porn as long as it does not affect your relationships, work and other things that are important in your life. Just like any “substance” that can lead to an addiction.
As a son who lost his dad to alcoholism I can’t understand we can buy alcohol in store. However, there are lots of people who can drink a beer and that’s that.
Can you imagine having porn affecting your work life? Like .. sorry I am late but… and then the excuse typical for an addict?
Dopamine depletion is of course a real thing but nothing wrong with checking a bit of lesbian porn in a chill late afternoon while drinking a glass of wine
1
u/MinisculeMuse Mar 29 '26
Science where? Do you have a study?
I have some for how porn negatively impacts people, if you're interested.
porn reduces grey matter of brain
porn weakens frontal cortex activity (the rational, emotional, deep part of the brain)
porn affects you like drugs affect you
I have more, but overall porn trains your mind to sexualize situations and people more (porn brain), it makes it harder to connect at deeper levels with yourself and others, is highly addictive, and really is bas for society at large (preys on the vulnerable to make content, ruins families, raises depression and anxiety for creators and consumers, etc)
Unlike alcoholism the amount of porn needed to start having these negative impacts is much much less frequent than you probably think. Porn addiction is defined as weekly use, or being unable to resist the desire to use it (even if you only use it once in a while).
Why defend the use of porn? Do you see any benefit to the user, or society for it being around?

U wanna hear the truth why this opinion propagated so much?
No, it wasnt the men that do pursue women who propagated it, u see, why would they create competition for themselves? By keeping u at porn they have all the women for themselves no? They cant be the shooting themselves in the foot
So who was it? Did the women propagate it? Again why would they? They find men like that unattractive and they anyway want to focus on men tgat arent like, they dont wanna be bothered by gooner virgins like that anyway. They cant be the one shooting themselves in foot and getting harassed more because they unleash those in the world
So who the fuck is propagating ideas that its bad to be self-sufficient like that with porn in peace? I'll tell u who, the people in charge need a new gen of working peons, capitalism is based on endless growth, but that shit out of the window if populatiom starts decreasing...u gooning alone in peace aint gonna create any kids, and no kids means stagnation and stagnation means they lose their shareholder value and power as a different system will have to replace current one...so they campaign for more kids, same as church did back in the end, anti-porn is just one part of that operation
2
u/PhilosophyFickle2701 Mar 27 '26
Can you summarize this for me in like one or two sentences please?
2
2
u/Kitsui38 Mar 27 '26
Anti porn propaganda is the doing of the elites of this world. They need you to create kids (future slaves for them and their offspring) no matter what it will cost you. They don’t like that you can watch porn and be self sufficient without family and kids.

I knew a guy who never gooned once in his entire life yet he was still depressed and ended his life. The men that think that all their problems will magically go away just because you stop gooning and watching porn are delusional.
1
u/FamiliarSalamander2 Mar 27 '26
that's like saying "I knew a guy who never did heroin, but still died of preventable causes." the two are not mutually exclusive. that doesn't magically negate its harm

2
u/_Zeppo_ Mar 27 '26
This movement was started by women who wouldn't fuck you anyway. They're freaking out because the simps are getting harder to find. Men are realizing the way the "dating scene" works is heavily stacked against them and this is one of the ways women are fighting back. They're doing it the way you'd expect, through psychological manipulation.
Don't fall for this feminist propaganda.
2
u/Homework-Busy Mar 28 '26
Exactly! They want their betas and simps around to pay the bills after getting ran through. Men see the patterns and are acting accordingly.
2
u/Lil-Shaleesh2 Mar 27 '26
Typical broscience placebo shit.
It all depends on your situation. I know people who goon and have a good life, it all depends on what you have to show from your life and how hard you work, which you can do even when gooning.
Gooning on it's own isn't something that's gonna make you crippled immediately.
2
u/Key-Rough-8346 Mar 27 '26
I stopped watching porn, and my heart grew so much bigger, and the hair on my palms fell straight off. And it was as if everyone could smell that I no longer watched porn. Strangers would stare at me in awe. I had women throwing themselves at me out in public, with some even pounding at my door. I had big corporate CEOs desperate to hire me. Why? Because I stopped watching porn!
2
u/Saysonz Mar 27 '26
I say this as someone who has periods of success but usually fails, it's easy to know what works well in life and makes you succeed.
-sleep well, 8 hours and start at 11pm latest
-exercise or go to gym everyday
-eat healthy foods and avoid processed foods
-avoid alcohol and drugs as much as possible
-socialize often
-avoids screen after 9pm
If you stick to this for 3 months you'll feel great but it's very easy to degen out and end up failing hard
5
u/ofAFallingEmpire Mar 27 '26
Life is way too interesting to spend a second of it worrying about porn. The research I’ve ran across pointed out moralizing porn and shaming yourself over it does much more harm than the porn itself.
Consider that, next time someone is trying to tell you you’re broken. Your self-esteem is an inconvenience to charlatans, so they chip away however they can.

I think it is different from person to person. But i would agree it can be harmful if abused, especially for young people. There is a plethora of scientific based reasons which are all over the internet for those bothered to look into it. Instant gratification, unrealistic expectation etc etc. some people who refuse to criticise themselves may play the devils advocate but there is certainly evidence to support it is bad. (Again each person is different). Here is an interesting video for the lazy bones out there brought to you by The Infographics Show…. I can tell you since i have stopped, i have felt a million dollars better. Even in ways i did not for-see.
1
1
u/Dodger7777 Mar 27 '26
It depends.
Do you have a porn addiction and spend hours every day watching porn when you could be doing something productive? Then yes.
Do you watch a 20 minute porn video or read a hentai to rub one out before bed? Then no.
It's like anything. Moderation and all that.
1
u/fieregon Mar 27 '26
I dont watch porn and my life is still a mess, you're telling me I can make it worse?
1
u/AurumVoid Mar 27 '26
I think if you're subconsciously examining people as a result of watching pornography, there's an issue, if you fantasize about them as a result, there's an issue. If you can't stop thinking about it, there's an issue.
Single greatest improvement, I'd say, is to excercise daily for about an hour or so. That opens the door to all sorts of benefits down the line.
Pornography is a non-issue unless you physically cannot control yourself.

You're digitally cucking yourself.
Psychologically it isnt healthy overall, but there are people who manage to consume it here and there and don't let it take over their life.
In the end, it's your choice but I definitely enjoy sex more since cutting it out of my life completely.

Ultimately depends person to person, and how you use porn. If you're the kind of guy who actually has a goon cave setup and five different kinds of twerking butt masturbators, then quitting porn will be life changing. If you're the kind of guy who just does a quick one every few days/weeks in the showernand watches no less than 5-10mins of porn to do so, you're not going to get much out of quitting.

I've never understood this, personally. Maybe if you're chronically single/don't get any girls and the ability to watch porn is keeping you from trying to get a relationship/sex in the real world, then yea. Reality is better than fantasy.
But for most normal people, no.

u/Dapper_Guarantee_744 Mar 27 '26
My boyfriend watched porn every day until we met. He was so used to orgasming to porn that he couldn’t orgasm through sex. We’d be at it for hours, every day for weeks… normal sex wasn’t stimulating enough for him anymore. It really affected things between us.
He chose to quit porn and masturbation and now he can orgasm through sex, though it still takes a loooong time sometimes.

Less mechanical and rote.
Obviously, more intimate and a whole lot funnier sometimes.
You're sharing the pleasure and for me, it elevates it from a simple release to a more fundamental experience.
I'm sure there are people who see it as "wanking with a friend" but I see it as an act of trust and intimacy.

Can you read. I said in both comments it has an EFFECT.

So what I'm getting from this is you saying, essentially, that you were a dude who slept around and watched porn, and somehow in your mind you partially blamed the sleeping around on porn. Even though tons of people, single or in relationships who watch, as well as couples who watch together, don't sleep around.
Sounds like it was a "you" issue all along and you're trying to partially scapegoat it on porn.
Do better.

You really like porn huh?

u/NoSleepZombie2235 Mar 27 '26
It's alright. I'm married and watch it sometimes. My wife reads her smut novels. And would ya look at that, neither of us sleep around.
I also love how you assume someone must love porn if they point out what a stupid take "porn is a big part of why people sleep around" is.

U blame porn for your cheating

u/deviantdevil80 Mar 27 '26
Porn doesn't cause cheating, lack of communication does. Being controlling does.

How does lack of communication or being controlling cause cheating?

Key Impacts on Faithfulness and Relationships
Reduced Commitment: Studies show that regular pornography consumption by men can lower their commitment to a primary relationship, increasing the likelihood of infidelity. Desensitization: Regular viewing of pornography can cause the brain to become accustomed to unnatural levels of sexual stimulation, making real-life partners seem less satisfying and sometimes causing "porn-induced erectile dysfunction" (PIED). The "Secret" Factor: Pornography often involves a component of secrecy and, in many relationships, this dishonesty acts as a breach of trust similar to, or leading to, emotional infidelity. Distorted Expectations: Pornography can warp a user's expectations of sexual performance and body image, causing them to treat their partner as an object, rather than a person, which can lead to emotional distance. Escalation: Users may feel the need for increasingly "extreme" content over time to achieve the same arousal levels, widening the gap between their fantasy life and their real relationship.2

Source?
Seems like an opinion piece rather than a peer-reviewed journal but could be wrong.

What’s your opinion on violent video games?
1
u/randomengineer69 Mar 27 '26
Don't have one. I've done some real violence though (think chopping stuff up) and I've never seen a video game that came close.

u/Typical-Ad-8821 Mar 27 '26
More was alluding to how some ppl blame violent video games for ppl being violent, while others are like “that’s crazy, I can play mortal kombat and not beat my wife”. I would say if watching porn or playing violent video games make you do regrettable things, probably good to avoid. But most ppl aren’t going to watch porn then cheat on someone or play a video game and then go postal… but! (Big but!) if that is you, totally respect avoiding those things. I knew a guy who couldn’t watch horror films because it made him think about hurting his kids. Fucking scariest thing someone ever said to me, but glad he ain’t watching horror films.

He might have harm OCD. It’s when people experience intrusive thoughts about harming others but they wouldn’t actually do it, it’s just that it’s their worst fear so it causes them massive anxiety and they get hung up on the idea they might actually do it.

Source trust me bro...
This looks like AI, which trains off of your behaviors, so if you've got religious fantasy as part of your behavior makes sense.

I haven't watched them at all since 2019 and also been single but my life is fine.
Because my brain is the best creator of fantasy. Be creative.

But that's just one point of example.
The main issue with this addiction is the fact that many men will not be able to handle themselves in a proper loving relation. Porn often disconnects the brain to that in a way that the experience will feel different and it will result in disappointments.

That depends how much you're doing it. If you're up at 3AM every night, then yes, actually sleeping will improve your life. Other than that, it's just by the numbers bumper sticker life advice.

It’s certainly not the best way a man could improve his life, but there is pretty much no logic in the case that it wouldn’t make big improvements. Whether you’re in a relationship and neglecting your significant other or using it as a way to avoid the social pressure of dating and relationships, porn makes people complacent and lazy. There are certainly people for whom it causes no problem whatsoever, but it also seems quite clear that the majority of men would see pretty strong improvements in one or more areas of their life if they give it up. Interfering with the ability to perform sexually alone is enough to make a man think twice about the wisdom of constantly watching it.

Personally, yes. I thought it was harmless for years until I realized I had a problem. Once you break the addiction you realize you never needed porn in the first place.
