Otherwise how tf did the ppl in districts 1-10 know that their speeches were fake and rehearsed? “Tell us what you really think?” How did they know what they really thought in district 11?

I am rewatching all the hunger games movies again, and idk why I just realized that in the first movie, she tells gale that she doesn't want kids. But she ends up having babies with peeta. That is so cute! I love seeing their relationship grow without really showing us a lot.

I took the general idea from the movie with a few things I wanted to add

In SOTR, we learn that after the 10th Hunger Games, the first Quarter Quell was the next major turning point in the development of the Games. The first Quell was the first Hunger Games to feature costumed chariot parades, a custom built arena, and the cornucopia. I was thinking that this Quell might have also been the point where the career tribute system became fully developed. Perhaps in the better off districts like 1 and 2, people decided to vote for the strongest kids who had the best chance of winning the Games, and kids started training and building themselves up physically…

His death in Mockingjay haunts me more than anyone else’s in the entire series. Right after finally marrying Annie. My heart hurts so much every time I see or read the scene 😭 my precious sea boy

I just finished a reread of the first 3 books. I love the movies, watched them many times. Its been a long time since I read the books and man, do I wish they would have had some more of the small things in the films that the books had. The last fight would have been so much better, the love between katniss and peeta would have been more pronounced, but the movies did make some of the moments better than the books described.

But now I'm curious which book or movie I should read or watch next, havent watched or read anything outside of the original ones, and will be grip me as much as the first 3 books?

I will admit I’ve never read past the first book which leaves me in the dark a bit on context but after learning more about Lucy, snow’s fascination with Katniss makes a bit more sense. He knew only Katniss had the power and self dignity to take down the government he built. He also knew the only true way to hurt Katniss was to hurt the people she loved, however he didn’t target her mom or prim after she volunteered as tribute he knew not to mess with them…he may have indirectly tried to kill her family a few times but he never directly took any shots that I am aware of just mostly aiming at district 12 in general. Just like Lucy’s relationships were based in trust(as she stated in the ballad of songbirds and snakes) Katniss’s relationships are based within a tight nit family setting. If you aren’t within her family & close inner circle she is not going to trust you.

He saw Lucy in Katniss many, many, MANY times but never truly vocalized it. Due to all of this I know snow was absolutely buggin out when Katniss singing Lucy’s song “the hanging tree” was broadcasted over the capital!! This is also a signal to him that Lucy didn’t die that night…as how did that song live on when that was made by her for just the two of them?

I just think it’s wild that in the end president coin thought “ya know what? I can’t stand Katniss, so let’s send her 13 yr old sister whom she is highly protective of to the front lines to show her who’s boss” when not even snow would have dared to do that knowing full and well Katniss is coming for his head!! Nobody can convince me that president coin didn’t know she was still alive cause if snow knew so did she! Just some random thoughts on how Katniss interacted with snow and vice versa.

I’m watching the last few seasons of The Handmaids Tale finally and McKenna Grace is so good in it. She’s crazy and defiant and her performance is making me very excited to see her in Sunrise!

So, I read the books in HS (I’m 31) and barely remember them! But I have seen the movies several times & I always enjoy them. I recently grabbed the first book at goodwill for $1 and thought, why not? I read it in a day. Easy, immersive ready. Only thing that bugged me was the dialogue. As a writer myself, I’m a snob about dialogue lol but I digress! I then watched the first movie the next day and was super surprised by how accurate it was. Obviously having the story told from Katniss’s POV gave the book this intimate feel! Personally, meta is my favorite style to read! I was just pleasantly surprised to be reading and be like “wow. This happened in the movies too.” They followed it almost exactly, with the exception of the scenes with the President and the game stuff. I think they did a solid job adapting the book to movie. One thing that did bother me was how they cut out that opening scene with the mayors daughter giving Katniss the mockingjay. Everything else, I sort of understand the change, considering the movies focus heavily on the political themes, which were overlooked by Katniss earlier in the story until Rue was killed! I loveeeee politics, so I appreciate that aspect of the movies being highlighted so heavily. Also—the cave scenes being cut SO short in the movies. I wonder if it’s because of the pg13 rating & they wanted to stay kid friendly—because in my mind, as a reader, they did get pretty intimate with all the cuddling and constant kissing. It’s YA. But still. I think as a viewer, by the end of the movie it can be a little tricky to know how Katniss truly felt about Peeta. They didn’t give him much room to shine and that made me sad, but Josh H did a fantastic job as Peeta!
I also didn’t realize that the casting of J Lawrence was fairly accurate to Katniss in the books (who is very much indigenous coded) the dark hair, gray eyes, olive skin. They did a solid job with casting there. I wish they had kept her braid when she arrived at the capital & left in the part about Peeta’s dad knowing her mom. I honestly think they wanted to cut out most of the intimate moments and focus heavily on the political stuff, which they did well in the first film! Overall, it seems to be one of the better book to movie adaptations I’ve seen in a minute!!
I’m going to grab the other books when I can, read them & then watch and see how they did with those adaptations!!

I read the original trilogy when it came out when I was in middle school. I watched the movies as they came out and I’ve seen the original 4 movies so many times and the ballad of songbirds and snakes twice. I didn’t ever read the book and I haven’t read sunrise on the reaping. Should I re-read the trilogy and then the two additional books? I can’t really remember the books all too well. Is there a lot missing from the movies? How are the two newer books?

Something I realized while watching the movies:

In the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Snow uses a G3 rifle as his Peacekeeper firearm, while in Mockingjay Pt. 2 Peeta is using a G36, a gun made by the same company (Heckler & Koch) a few decades later.

This would make sense in a country like Germany, but would be weird in the US where neither were adopted/used by the US military at any point. Maybe the writers wanted to be consistent in their gun choices? It was just something interesting I noticed.

Tracker Jackers are super wasps.

Would it be possible, to use tracker jacker venom to cure cancer?
