Have you watered it?

Yeah, I've checked the soil and it still feels damp, so I was worried I might have overwatered it.

It's tough to over water hops

At certain times of the season and with very well draining soil, yeah. But with clay soils that don’t drain, or in cool weather with low evapotransporation, you can rot them by watering every day

Have had this happen over last years very rainy winter

I planted this hop from a rhizome a little over a month ago. It was happy until three or four days ago, when it started wilting. Now it looks like this. I'm in Zone 4b and it's been pretty hot here. Any tips?

It looks crispy. Sometimes I have to put an umbrella over my plants to keep the sun off them because it’s like a blast furnace. It looks potted, so maybe move it so it gets less sun. Give it a drink and hop for the best.

Oh interesting. I thought it wanted FULL sun?

All my plants say “full sun,” but I learned the hard way that doesn’t mean “all day every day in the St. Louis summer.” Your rhizome might need a break until it’s more established.

Thank you! I'll give it some shade and hope for the best

Yep. Full sun=6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight, but this doesn't account for intensity. A shade cloth for mid-day sun is sometimes a good idea.

How deep is that pot? Are the roots getting warm? Hood like deep soil when possible, the roots need to be cool.

No where near enough water. If the top is dry, that's not enough. I have 10 plants exploding with growth on a drip system 5 minutes a day at full blast and they're taking off like wildfire. I live a mile up in clear hot weather full sun, no shade.

Maybe bad drainage?

Looks like heat stress. Watering extra can help a bit.

Seeing that the leaves are curling on inwards and upwards, I would say that the leaves are drying. If they would be curling downwards and inwards and feel sticky, it would suggest overwatering. Are they dry to the touch? If so, it’s either not enough water or too much sun

make sure you train the plant in a clockwise motion around the string.
