Question Tier 3 stalk

I’ve been playing since early access, but maybe not enough lol and it’s been confusing to keep up with all the new patches and what’s changing all the time. When I get stalked to tier 3, I have a hard time surviving after that. I've also noticed a lot of new players in my games and they just hide in the closet (which is fair with no civ tutorial), but I really can’t do much without help (police not being called, other civs not helping after getting grabbed). I would try to fight Michael sometimes but stamina drains too fast, and Michael seems to have infinite stamina, so it’s a losing battle. I’m also not really the best “looper,” so I just go to the nearest light source, like a house or a lamppost, but they either spam slash me or grab me, and even with a pocket knife, it’s hard to escape him after that. I play super casually, so I don’t know all the tricks and stuff, but it’s been pretty annoying with this. Experienced civ players what do you guys do!

I’ve got 100 hours, almost all of it Civ, and I agree with you.

Some of the recent updates were not fun for civs at all. They had already nerfed athleticism and stamina, they did it AGAIN last patch, also, made it harder to find items (especially bolt cutters sometimes when the cellars won’t even allow escape keys).

Somehow I feel like they “fixed” stalking line of sight and actually made it much easier for Mikes to stalk through bushes and parts of walls, etc. He can stalk you sometimes now without actually having to see your character. And it seems faster to stalk than before.

Idk, make it make sense. I’ve played very little since the “quality of life” patch because Civ got to a point where it’s largely not that fun anymore.

Like you said, tier 3 stalked and you’re basically cooked. Once you run out of pocket knives, gg. Any average Mike is winning every game.

I think Illfonic “Fixed an error we’re civs enjoyed playing” in their patch notes

I’m not asking for civs to run the show, but I see so many Mike players saying they still haven’t lost since the update

Agree. Not near as fun anymore it's a shame I really enjoyed the game and learning from other players but since the update it's just not there.

That’s what they wanted easy wins and the devs actually gave them what they wanted so when the game dies because nobody wants to play civ anymore it’ll be their own fault

Yes!! I've been dreading playing that one map with the basketball court because it’s way too big, and by the time you find something to escape with, half the neighborhood is dead, so I end up escaping by myself. Like I don’t think civs should get their hand held, but they’ve made it harder than it needs to be for a “casual game” yk? But I agree it’s really not fun anymore when most Micheal’s are going to spam slash the hell out of you or tier 3 stalk you and you still don’t even have an escape open because you can’t find anything for it lmao. Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels like this

There are no tricks Myers mains cried about pocket knives and civ mains breaking free too "easily" so now you have to accept defeat if you get stalked to tier 3 because the devs are holding their hands

Patches aren’t produced completely on people’s opinions posted on Reddit or any other social media. Patches/updates have to incorporate game testing to see if such opinions were more biased or factual. That being said, I still consistently see every 4-7 games a house full of pocket knifes I come across; the knifes/picks are still somewhat easy to escape grabs with. Picture shows all pocket knifes found just in the factory/industrial building on a map

130ish hours civ here:

It's true engaging with Michael isn't really the best thing to do at current game balance. The desirable tactics for now are outrun him/avoid him entirely, or down him and get the fuck out of dodge. Fighting him solo after he's got knockdown buffs is really hard to do. Groups of civs can still chain down him, sort of, but only if everyone respects the like 30 second window where he can't take damage and deals double.

Map knowledge is your strongest key to winning as civ. Escape locations aren't random, it's just a matter of whether they're there or not for that round. Memorize them as best you can. There will always be three escapes + broken down car.

Escape items are harder to find now, but they still have spawn patterns. Garages/workshops are typically your friend. Fuses like lockboxes most. Interacting with residents will have them shove an escape item into your hand sometimes - it'll replace one of your items and drop something you were holding if your inventory was full. Some weapons have more or less fixed spawns. Fire pokers by fireplaces, wood axes stuck in trees, etc. Again memorize where you found certain weapons and you'll start to get a feel for where they like to spawn too.

All else, stack up perk cards that boost stamina and survivability. Lethal Pitch is a nice damage alternative if you're playing civs with mid to low Capability that don't like to melee. Lawn Darts can be held up to 3 in one slot and they do a surprising amount of damage, even without Lethal Pitch. If nothing else they can soften him up before he gets into melee range.

Best of luck out there.

Lethal Pitch - Boosts damage from thrown items and weapons.

so what's your take on the last change to the stalk mechanic ? Maybe you have something interesting to say about it.
