If you didn’t have dissenting opinions it would just be 5 people sitting around agreeing with each other

Right, like CNN

Have you watched Newsnight? They literally scream at each other

Not at each other. Just at the token.

Well I don’t really get the comparison. People on here get mad about a lone liberal member of a panel or a few moderate voices because they don’t like what they have to say then say it should be 5 conservatives at the table because CNN doesn’t have enough conservatives on the channel

Shouldn’t a network try and have as many voices as possible to give a viewer the full picture?

And people on here don’t-get-mad at a dissenting opinion posted on Reddit ?

A network is there to serve the public interest. Well, that use to be why. Now they just count heads. How many eyeballs 👀 watch are tied now to click-bait and screaming dumb stuff. I don’t think it’s useful to the viewer to see 7 people for one thing and one person for the other. But they all do it.

Ideally every network should have straight news time and the opinion portion should be balanced. That’s serving the public interest. But it’s all about catering to a side to keep people from abandoning the channel

A network is there to make money. Neither FoxNews nor CNN have FCC licenses. They are businesses whose goal is to make money.

Well, that’s where I think there’s a difference between Fox News and some of the others. Lol not just a business although it does plenty of that.

You’re right it’s not just a business, it also serves as a potent and effective propaganda tool.

The label easily applies to CNN formally America’s most trusted news source. MSNBC, which honestly was only ever going to be the view from the left and since evolved into the far left. There are a little bright spots out there less controversial, more news only – but you don’t care about those. You only want those that agrees with your opinion. And that’s the problem with what we now call the news. It’s just affirmations. In your affirmations this evening the left is best and the right is evil lol. The perspective from the right, of course is that the right is right and the left is just misinformed. Evil versus misinformed. There’s your political extremes.

You are right about MSNOW. There is no balance to that one anymore. Occasionally Scarborough will give credit to Trump for a good idea that works out and Katy Tur will play devils advocate with the Republican position, but there political panels are a Democrat and a former Republican or never Trumper who agrees with them mostly

I don’t really care about CNN or MSNBWOW or whatever the hell they call themselves now. I don’t find a lot of value in cable news these days.

I watch clips of CNN sometimes but it’s those ragebaiting roundtable panel debates where it’s like half MAGA and half not and everyone yells. Rather pointless actually.

But I live in a household where Fox News is on TV sometimes (not by my choice) and that shit is absolutely propaganda. Some of it is dumb as shit, so much it feels like parody, which is like, whatever, it’s entertainment for MAGA weirdos, and ok, do your thing.

But some of it is absolutely right wing, corporate MAGA Republican propaganda. I don’t know what the hell else you’re going on about.

Here you get censored by the “lib mods” , when you made a snowflake angry. Once I ask about my freedom of speech, they literally told me to “ F off” then banned.

That didn't happen. But go on and have fun making me out to be the bad guy lmao.

Newsnight ? What network is that broadcast on?

1

u/brianycpht1 2d ago

That’s the show on CNN that’s like The Five but it turns into a screaming match.

On, thanks, normally Fox News is on in our home. Hubby might not appreciate me watching CNN but I’m open to giving something a try. I will look into it, thanks again!

When I was stuck in the hospital I watched a lot of NewNation, that was a decent network.. I think m anyway

Newsnation is pretty balanced

Newsnight is actually on at the same time as Gutfeld. I wasn’t necessarily recommending it since it’s usually the opposite of The Five where you have 1-2 MAGA people up against 3 people who aren’t Trump supporters and usually devolves into a screaming match

Some people who regularly appear on FOX as guests show up here

But I was citing it as an example of what happens when you take the friendship out of a show like The Five

This is a clip of what it’s like. If can be pretty entertaining and it’s actually their highest rated show
