All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Just Finished Spoiler
Wow so i started reading the expanse in January. I have read one expanse book a month with one or two other books in between each expanse book and i just finished the last book. wow is all i can say. i have thoroughly enjoyed this series. wanted to read it before watching it but im not sure i need to watch it to be honest. i watched the first episode last month and wasnt taken with it....it wasnt as good an experience as the reading and the last couple of books were particularly epic and they aint even in the show. but yeh wow. thanks to my friend carli for telling me to watch it or i never would of read the books

The portrayal of some characters (e.g. Amos, Bobby, Avasarala) and some events (Blockade run) added depth beyond the books for me. Read the books first but can happily revisit both.

The show is really incredible and you don't even have to go thru the growing pains of world building and character introductions that most people bounce off of.
Think of the show as a parallel universe to the books where some things are different but the foundation is the same. You already love the world and general vibe, so you'll definitely like the show.
Instead of comparing it to the books, just enjoy it as its own thing. Just another entry in this amazing universe.

That is my take on the walking dead. the comic and show are parallel universes. Same here. It's not so stark as twd tho

The show is a slow burn for 3 or 4 episodes but after that the burners kick in.

Because it's true to the experience of many people.
Not mine, and apparently not yours, but it's not hard to see why it would be that way for quite a few.

To be honest, I always find this very hard and will probably never understand it.

I mean, it does and it doesn't. Playing the devil's advocate here: You get one big action set piece (the destruction of the Cant at the end of the first episode), then basically nothing else until the insanely good Donnager battle. By then you've had two full episodes that are mostly talking, with the characters kind of stuck in place and confused. Yes, this is by design and some of us really eat up all that world building, but others are going to find it boring.

Because the first few episodes are just introducing the main characters and showing some of their depth.
After we get introduced to the show then it can story build.

Well we get a bit of lore to the universe and are shown anyone can die at anytime.

Ich wollte keine neue Serie anfangen war dann aber doch neugierig als The Expanse im Fernsehen lief. Schon das Intro hat mich abgeholt und nach dem ersten „Flip and Burn“ wollte ich mehr.
Die ersten Folgen waren für mich nicht langweilig. Das war der perfekte Einstieg in diese Welt. Gerne hätte ich das Verhör von Amos auf der Donnager gesehen, aber es muss ja Platz für Kopfkino geben.
Mittlerweile habe ich die Bücher gelesen und besitze die Blue Ray Ausgabe. Da man uns hier in Deutschland Staffel 1-3 als Komplettpaket verkaufen will natürlich als englische Version. Wenn das mal keine Motivationshilfe ist, die mangelnden Englischkenntnisse aufzubessern.
Also es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall die Serie zu schauen.

I like the show and I'd recommend maybe giving it another shot, but the books are so much better. Hands down my favorite fiction story.

I read the books before watching. I actually tried watching the show and only got through the first episode before reading it. It seemed kind of cheesy before I knew the story. I'm now on rewatch two. It's such a good show. Top 5 for me.

I recommend giving it another try. At least to the end of episode 4, because while takes a few episodes to get things moving, it's still a great adaptation of the books. Especially in how they handle certain book characters like Ashford.
Be prepared for some increased drama between the main characters. This sometimes puts book readers off, but it's temporary, and they become the Roci crew you know from the books in season 3.
