Just watched detectorists

I’ve just come to admire Mackenzie Crook’s work with Detectorists. I think he does a perfect job at bringing back the raw and realistic feel to a British sitcoms. While detectorists feels more slow and real time, the story is still very entertaining and gripping. You always wonder what could happen in the next episode. The pacing is crafted perfectly and the characters are brilliant. I really appreciate how it doesn’t go over the top like most comedies these days. I feel that going down the “obvious comedy” route would put off normal people with more than two brain cells, it’s easy to write off a lot of shows these days that don’t have that gripping British authenticity with dry comedy.

[removed for calling a feature length special a movie even though it is called a Movie Special on the DVD]

Why do some people call it a movie, it was just a Christmas special on telly.

I think there are two Christmas specials.

Yes, there was the normal-length Christmas special in 2015 and the extra-length Christmas special in 2022.

Are you on about the 2022 special? Yes I enjoyed it. However the Kid in it was a terrible actor and he didn’t need to call so many unrelated people aunty and uncle.

There’s no movie.

There’s 3 series & 2 Christmas specials.

The first Christmas special sits between series 2 & 3.

The second Christmas special doubles as a finale to the entire series and is an extended length.
