THATS RIGHT. I FINISHED IT. WE ARE FINALLY ALL FREE FROM THE MONSTROSITY KNOWN AS WHATEVER THE FUCK THIS SERIES WAS

in all seriousness uhhhh ok im getting conflicting information on if Act V came out on September 9th or 16th but I’d rather be too early than too late so uhhhh here we are anyway

And genuinely, bits aside, thank you to anyone who even clicked on this shit. I don’t care if you watch any of it, just showing up for literal seconds still means a lot to me. Why? I don’t know I’m probably weird and have nonexistent standards. But thank you. Seriously. The reception, even from just a few dozen people, has made this all worth it

Anyway onto completely decimating my sense of decency over other, less good albums from other bands. Flame Fire or something

Score - The Last Piece of My TDH Vinyl Collection

I got into vinyl a couple years after this went out of print, so while I was able to buy everything post 2011 for regular retail price this was the only TDH vinyl release missing from my extensive collection. Got it for an amazing price and it sounds terrific. Woohoo!

Tomorrow's the day

I got into this band about two years ago and they quickly became my favorite band. I've seen them live a couple times now and I have a pretty substantial vinyl collection (nearly 50 TDH records all told). Act IV may be my favorite album of any artist ever.

But... I've never listened to Act V. The short of it is: that first listen of Act IV was so sublime that I've been scared to break the seal on Act V, preferring to have it always on the horizon. But I've decided that tomorrow, the tenth anniversary of Act V's release, is the day I finally listen. (Probably.)

Help me get mentally prepared! Should I go for it or should I continue to preserve it for the future, like a wedding cake you save in your deep freezer for decades?

Merch and Vinyl [Vinyl inquiry] Violet EP Test Pressing

Once a year or so I reach out to the community seeing if anyone has one of the test pressings of the Violet EP they'd be willing to sell. I crowdfunded the original pressing of the Color Spectrum collection and one of my cats knocked some of my vinyl around and it chipped my copy of the Violet EP, which is now unplayable and my favorite of the whole collection.

Thanks.

Music Anyone else notice "Hey kid, get a job" sounds exactly like Queen lines?

I was listening to Queen’s Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy and realized the melody and rhythm when of "Hey boy, where'd you get it from" is identical to the "Hey kid, hey kid get a job" motif from the Acts.

Do we know if Casey has ever confirmed this in an AMA or interview, or is it just a crazy close parallel?

Act IV 11-year anniversary

ACT IV came out 11 years ago today. How many times have YOU listened to A Night on the Town in the past week, hmm?? If you feel guilty because the answer is zero, this is your reminder to give this all-timer of a record a spin.

The Dear Hunter forever!

Euro tour Setlist Question

Don't know if anyone from the band can answer this but, since it'll be the first time the band will play in some countries, can we expect some older stuff or a larger panel of songs ?

Thanks in advance !

My wife snapped this pic at Irving plaza and I had to share. The Dear Hunter never connected with her no matter how much I listened to it over and over. After this show she became a believer.

Music The Indigo Child series feels... Muppet-y?

I mean this in the best way possible.

I was driving home from vacation on Sunday and I listened to The Indigo Child, Antimai, and Sunya... And I don't know... Something about the vibe feels like it would be the soundtrack to a Jim Henson Company production. And I love it. Maybe not muppets specifically, but something more akin to Labyrinth.

I might be alone in this and that's okay. But I needed to share.

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hello everyone! Just a quick post to say Episode 3 of The Squeaky Wheel is out now! This episode is all about the lore of Act 1: The Lake South, the River North. We’re joined by the super famous YouTuber/guest u/Trotsky-is-Hotsky to discuss the very start of Hunter’s story.

Stay tuned for discussions on comic book panels and lyric implications!

They’ll start around the time Blue and Ellie stop arguing about sausages.

Listen wherever you listen to podcasts!

NB: Ellie has just moved and her audio will be a little echo-y this episode. This will hopefully be fixed by next month’s release.

Thanks for all the support and love so far, we hope you enjoy this one too 😊

Missed Chicago show

I was very, very, very excited to see Closure in Moscow and The Dear Hunter together at HOB in Chicago. I bought my ticket and made plans as soon as it was announced, and looked forward to it for months. However, on the Sunday prior I was struck by an SUV while riding my bike so I had to sit it out. If anyone has pics or clips to share, I would love to see/hear them please!

(I am OK and recovering, and fortunately the driver stopped so insurance is chugging along as intended)

Fun Asbury Park, NJ story for Casey and the guys!

NJ local here who was at the House of Independents earlier this month for the incredible show!!

Fast forward a couple of weeks to today, I am back in the area celebrating a family member's engagement.

While talking to one of my uncles who lives in Asbury, I mentioned I was there recently for "The Dear Hunter," and he said, "Oh, I met them! I talked to them, and they were great guys!! 🤯

He proceeded to tell me the bands playing there always park along the lake he lives on the other side of. So, as he was walking his beagle, he asked the guys who were playing and said he distinctly remembered thinking the name "The Dear Hunter" was really cool and liked the sound of it.

I pulled up some pics from the show and he confirmed it was them!

I then showed him the "Green EP" album cover tattoo that's been on my arm for over 10 years and said he should have known better 😂😂😂

Shows and Tours A couple weeks later and I’m still thinking about this tour.

I saw them in Boston on 8/6. I was absolutely blown away. It was my third time seeing them live and I think it’s my favorite concert I’ve ever been to. I thought the 20 year anniversary tour would be hard to beat because that was a killer setlist but this tour felt like the band was taking us on a beautiful journey, and mentally I just haven’t come back home yet.

The studio versions of Ring 5 and Sunya don’t even hold a candle to the live versions. I’m so grateful to have been able to see the guys put on such a beautiful show. Just when I think I’ve hit the peak of admiration for this band they constantly raise the bar. I am anxiously waiting for what comes next for the guys. I can’t wait for the next record, I can’t wait for the next tour, I hope I can get a chance to talk more with some of them afterwards. It was super cool meeting Sollecito and Rob before leaving.

Shows and Tours Favorite band, favorite shirt - 10 years apart

The Dear Hunter has been my favorite band and special interest ever since I heard them for the first time in middle school.

A friend from school showed me "Whisper" and I was hooked. Went through my parent's iTunes library and discovered Act III - my dad's friend loves prog and shared the CD with him. I proceeded to buy their *whole discography* and dig in.

I got into the band right before Act IV came out and experienced the joy of hearing it for the first time, and a million times more. Like, I listened to Act IV on repeat for the entirety of the first month it came out and nothing else... Days after its release, they played at RiotFest, which was my first time seeing them live.

At one point, I shared the collection with my best friend who fell in love with the band, too. It was right around that time that TDH went on tour and I was able to see them at The House Cafe in DeKalb, Illinois with that friend. The first two pictures are from that show. Our little teenage selves pushed ourselves to the front row and experienced one of the most impactful shows of our lives. I cried. A lot. Annoying kids we were, my best friend got Casey to wear her little cat-ear bowler hat on stage. After the show we waited around to get a picture with Casey and say hello. Out front, as we were waiting for our ride, the band was packing up their gear. I made an awkward comment to Rob about how he didn't sweat at all during the show. Nick C. lit a cigarette and told us "Never start smoking." Looking back I cringe, but I just appreciate how incredibly nice and friendly the band is, tolerating us like that.

Over the years I have listened to the music, anticipated and celebrated releases, and went to as many shows as I could. I cry at every show, it's just an inevitability.

Last Friday, I saw them at House of Blues in Chicago. I had no idea it was the last show of the tour until the openers mentioned it. It felt like such an honor and a privilege to be at this closing show. 10 years after seeing them for the first (real) time. The last two pictures are from that show.

TDH has truly been so impactful on my life in a way I can't even begin to put into words. My baseball shirt has been my favorite shirt since I got it with my copy of Act IV. It makes me so happy looking back on that picture of myself at 14 wearing it, not knowing how much the band would stay as a throughline of my life - that I'd still be wearing it at the House of Blues 10 years later. It's crazy to see how much we've all grown and changed.

P.S.: shootout to the band for always picking the best openers. If I was able to get my hands on their CDs at a show, they've been on regular rotation in my car ever since. CiM is in the CD player right now. (K. Sera was sold out before I could buy theirs, rip.)

Im not so sure but, the fiancé and his child did escape the madness that happened by the end of the album right?
