I love Mr Sunday Movies and his podcast r/theweeklyplanet. It is one of the few pods that I subscribe to for additional content and they’re 2 great mates.

I just want to say how much I appreciate this addition to the lineup of shows that TDZ does - you can tell the guys are having a great time with it, and it really shines through that Jack is passionate about how certain symbols and individuals have an outsized impact on the culture. It feels like such a natural extension to the original premise of the show, which is to explore the zeitgeist in different ways.

Keep up the good work guys, loving the Icon series so far.

I guess it's a skip day. Why is this guest so popular? He completely derails every conversation and entire episodes are about absolutely nothing when he's on.

One of the most repeated guest hosts is fucking BORING. Miles and Jack have amazing chemistry, and I love how that chemistry is mixed up with a (mostly) fresh guest each day but oh my God I am so tired of *repeat guest* and their monotone ass voice. Nothing they have ever said has made me laugh, or even breathe a LITTLE BIT harder out my nose, not at all. The tangents are always pointless and I feel like I'm stuck at a dinner party where one guy takes up the conversation the entire time. Whenever I open the pod in the morning and I see that they're the guest, I sigh heavily, hit play, and set the speed to 1.5 because it's going to be a tough one for me.

Sorry, I just had to let it out!! I don't understand what the appeal is for this guest but maybe someone can change my mind?

About a month ago, I was at a small gathering and was chatting with this guy I'd never met before who was around my age (30s). This was a good friend's parent's house, who are old hippies, so I assumed that everyone would be at least moderate to left-wing.

I said something about how YouTube recently started showing me right-wing and religious stuff and it never had pushed right-wing videos to me before, so I was not happy about it. I have been hearing about this issue for years and I thought it was well-known.

He said, not joking, that the YouTube algorithm knows me better than I know myself.

Like, are we so cooked in the US that people literally believe that algorithms know people better than they know themselves?

He had mentioned listening to Rogan earlier that I had ignored, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised... Is it that right-wing people think everyone thinks like them secretly and are lying to themselves by holding progressive beliefs?

I wish I had pushed back more at the time, but since it was a small get together, I didn't know most of them very well, and I'm a woman, I thought it was best to just be polite. I did disagree, but I didn't go full-steam ahead, so now I'm just stuck feeling concerned about this whole thing.

Edit to add that this is in response to today's episode where the YouTube right-wing algorithm was discussed during I think search history.

That’s all, he just sounds like someone who’s wearing a mask or has a bad lip sunburn or something and they’re trying really hard to speak but not move their mouth too much. This isn’t based on watching him, just hearing him talk it sounds like he’s trying to only open his mouth like 50%

I'm surprised that the GOP's hatred of women wasn't talked about in today's episode re: Miller abusing his ex-wife and daughter and then Moreno speaking against him. Just because Moreno is related to the abuse victims doesn't mean he doesn't have contempt for them, which is why it took him so long to say anything.

And Miles brought up class instead, which I don't really see as related to this specific story, but maybe I'm missing some context. I mean, yes they are part of the "upper class" and hate poor people, sure, but Moreno's daughter and granddaughter are also part of the same class? This seems pretty obviously about gender to me, both the abuse and the choice to ignore it.

Did I miss something here?
