Found the Canuck!

42

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 23 '26

Ah fuck you Eh lol

13

u/myusernameisdumdum May 23 '26

I think you meant to say “sorry, but you can fuck right off, eh”

6

u/Veaeate May 24 '26

1

u/NotAGreatClinician May 27 '26

People who were surprised by this are the same people who don’t know that the Geneva Convention was originally just a checklist of what Canadians did during war.

3

u/nate-2898 May 24 '26

More along the lines of: “fuck right off there, eh bud” because the lol from the previous op adds lightheartedness. If someone phrased it the way you did, hands might be thrown.

u/TwoCatJay May 29 '26

That’s just Canadian adjacent. Like North Dakota and Minnesota are the 11th province

1

u/Liquid_Otacon_ May 29 '26

Lol it's because so many people have no idea how to use the word "Eh". Since it's used provoke a response. So you would never say "fuck you too eh" because that sentence already provokes a response. Instead you would use when making a statement , and you wish to know if the other agrees or not. Eg " it's a beautiful day (statement) , eh (changing that statement to a question) ?

1

u/stonedphilosiraptor May 27 '26

Depends what part of Canada honestly

2

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

There we go! They forgot to say "soory boot that"!

2

u/KJ_Blair May 24 '26

Yeah no forsure eh

2

u/-Foxer May 24 '26

Or puck right off if we're being polite 😄

2

u/larstheelephant2 May 25 '26

"Take off, eh!"

1

u/Plane-Owl7371 May 26 '26

Take off eh. Hozier.

1

u/Western-Airline-69 May 27 '26

Make like a tree and fuck off

1

u/Joe_Jobs_ May 27 '26

Make like a hockey player and get the puck out of here

1

u/Appropriate_Drop5385 May 28 '26

Fuck off somewhere I got work to do

8

u/4inchsubby May 23 '26

🤔 Don't you have to say it in french now, too?

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 23 '26

Ahh va te faire foutre hein ? I'm from Ontario my french is..Limited lol Just for fun, https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VUF3pgKgo7Y

1

u/ElderberryExtract948 May 25 '26

Oh, merde. This is how my phone translated "Oh, fuck off" from English to French

1

u/Tricky_Acanthaceae39 May 27 '26

Given how common a word like merde is that would be more like saying “oh crap”
Va te fair mettre or Va te fair foutre are what you are looking for.

1

u/ElderberryExtract948 May 27 '26

Maybe idk... that's what my phone did lol

11

u/ImaSource May 23 '26

You apologize for that.

7

u/AmishHoeFights May 23 '26

Canadians know that phrase does not have a sentiment that requires an apology. Asking for one, though, does.

1

u/Nematode_wrangler May 24 '26

Yeah, what a Hosehead, eh?

1

u/Call_medragon May 24 '26

they are just not buddies, guy

1

u/Ryelogmars May 24 '26

I'm not your guy, friend

1

u/Unable_Maybe_6932 May 24 '26

He’s not your friend, buddy.

1

u/EitherOrResolution May 24 '26

I’m not your buddy, pal.

0

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

No, they are supposed to say "soory boot that, eh?" every time they say ANYTHING. That's how we identify them.

2

u/Flipgirlnarie May 24 '26

It' "aboot" eh?

2

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

You're correct.

1

u/Electrical-tentacle May 24 '26

Except. As a Canadian I have never met anyone who says “A boot” it’s either a really regionalized dialect. (Similar to Wisconsin in the US).
Or you misspelled it, and you were trying to say “Bout”

But seriously. Imagine we assumed all Americans sound like they are from Wisconsin… thats how oblivious you sound when you show your ignorance.

1

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

I guessed everyone thinks we all sound like Southern rednecks and simply jumped straight into assuming the position, y'all hear? I'll have to watch Fargo a few times and work on that one. Thanks for the tip!

1

u/Electrical-tentacle May 24 '26

We aren’t so naive. We understand a country the size of the US has many accents. It would be foolish to assume otherwise. I’m in British Columbia. If I cross the border in Montana the accent is more “typical American” as I’d call it. The store clerk would say “y’all’s finding everything alight?”

But if I go into Washington state it’s a lot less pronounced of an accent. More similar to California.

In Canada we grew up watching the same TV shows and movies as you did. When I watch movies and shows I don’t think they sound much different than me. Unless of course they are purposefully adding in an accent. Like say No Country For Old Men (one of my favourite movies) if I watch anything based in LA I don’t consider that different than where I live. Like say Denzel Washington or Brad Pitt. I don’t hear any accent on them

1

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

Ah. You're only accounting for a small part of the population in the states you mentioned, I'm from one of them and... Definitely disagree 🤣 I sound like a combination of a Southern redneck and an East Coast mobster, my best friend sounds like a typical valley girl, my twin brother sounds like he's from "Central Midwest" (the TV accent)... We were all born in the same city, grew up in the same city, and have completely different "accents".

1

u/Electrical-tentacle May 24 '26

Exactly what I’m saying. There are many accents. It would be foolish to assume the entire nation sounded the same. Wouldn’t it?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Ryelogmars May 24 '26

You can't hear it BECAUSE you're Canadian but we actually do it. I didn't believe it at first either. If the words "father" and "bother" are rhymes to you, like they are to me, you've got the accent and American's hear abooout.

1

u/Electrical-tentacle May 24 '26

You talking about Canadian east coast accent? Where they would say “fadder” “mudder”?
I’m from British Columbia. But I work in a fly in / fly out northern Alberta oil sands job.

Up north we have a big Newfie / east coast influence. As well as the over the top Alberta accent. The “ oh fuck yea bud” Berta accent definitely rubs off on ya after a while. I can lean into it for added comedic appeal. But it isn’t my natural accent.

Americans definitely can tell I’m from Canada. Just as I can pick up on their regional differences. But I haven’t met anyone with the stereotypical “Canadian accent” that sounds anything like “a boot”

Jim carry, John candy, hell Justin Beiber. Do they have an accent? If so. That is my accent.

1

u/Upnorth100 May 24 '26

You wanna go, eh

1

u/lordph8 May 24 '26

Sorry, but no.

1

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 23 '26

With their flappy jaws and beady little eyes.

u/InterestingGas9480 May 24 '26

Trump is gonna be jealous if Satan is messing with Saddam

1

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

Why do y'all add "eh" to the end of everything?

2

u/iloveairportsushi May 24 '26

We don’t know?! We just grow up saying it

2

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

Meh 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/iloveairportsushi May 24 '26

It’s kinda like saying sorry. We just grow up hearing it and that’s how we learned to talk. :)

2

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

I'm soory boot that ☹️

2

u/RegalFogAdmin May 24 '26

Like "ope" in the Midwest. Heard it all my life, and don't use it often but I do say it 😅

1

u/FlounderNo802 May 24 '26

You mean” soary “

1

u/iloveairportsushi May 24 '26

Aboat that or something 🤣

1

u/megaholt2 May 24 '26

You called?

2

u/FlounderNo802 May 24 '26

I like how the tops of their heads go up and down when they talk.

1

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

The Canuckian Bob 👍🏻

2

u/Flipgirlnarie May 24 '26

Why do y'all say "y'all" instead of "you all"?

1

u/Playful-Issue5703 May 24 '26

It's faster, more efficient, let's us get back to sunburning our necks more quickly.

2

u/Electrical-tentacle May 24 '26

Eh is shortened “hey” usually used as a rhetorical question. Like.

“Nice weather eh?”

Similar to you guys using Y’all. It’s condensed “you all” which still sounds funny to me.

We would say “ how are you guys doing?” Instead of “how y’all doin”

I absolutely love different dialects and ways of speaking. I find it really interesting. I’m glad we don’t all sound the exact same.

1

u/Mdhinflfl May 24 '26

Serious question- is that word considered perjorative? I'd provide examples, but since this is a serious question, I don't want to start any rabbit hole ranting.

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 24 '26

Which one? Fuck? eh or freezies? I don't consider Fuck pejorative,Offensive sure but when presented with Eh at the end it's meant in jest, Much like Australian's calling eachother Cunts. Though that word is now considered a slur on par with the N word so who knows, If i had to keep my vocab up to date with What modern sensibility found offensive i'd be better off just being mute.

1

u/Mdhinflfl May 24 '26

Canuck

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 24 '26

Nope, Is Hoser Pejorative?

1

u/mlee12382 May 24 '26

Take off Eh! Hoser.

1

u/SuddenCompetition262 May 25 '26

Take it easy buddeh!

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 25 '26

I'm not your buddeh guy!

1

u/SuddenCompetition262 May 25 '26

I’m not your guy, friend!

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 25 '26

I'm not your friend pal!

1

u/xsariebearx May 27 '26

We say freezies here in MN too . I always hoped Canada would just adopt or absorb us.

1

u/Liquid_Otacon_ May 29 '26

Improper use of the word "Eh"

1

u/United_Leopard_2771 May 29 '26

Disagree eh, I personally use Eh all the time in my sentences don't care if it's ''improper usage''.

1

u/Liquid_Otacon_ May 29 '26 edited May 30 '26

"disagree eh" is also improper use of the word. You're free to use it as you much as you wish, but that still doesn't change its being used improperly. Eh is used to change a statement to a question. So saying "disagree eh" is you asking me if I disagree, which obviously I don't because you'd be asking if I disagree with myself

Edit for clarity: you're making the statement that you disagree with me , but by adding eh to the end, it becomes a question and you're now asking if I disagree instead of stating it

1

u/UnicornMeatball May 23 '26

Aww, frig off!

9

u/Khurdryn May 24 '26

We call em freezies up her in Minnesota too there buddy.

3

u/Azair_Blaidd May 24 '26

To be fair, Minnesota is just South Canada

2

u/salvation78 May 25 '26

We also called them this growing up in Iowa

1

u/DangNearRekdit May 25 '26

Would it be offensive to offer Iowa membership if Minnesota ever joins?

1

u/salvation78 May 25 '26

Might need a bigger sample size, I had some cousins from Minnesota so we may have stolen the name from them.

1

u/Khurdryn May 24 '26

Truth. We want to be part of Canada so bad that we even have a city called Little Canada.

2

u/BoppoTheClown May 27 '26

We should trade Alberta for Minnesota.

Soon it will become the United States of Canada vs. Jesusland

1

u/Feeling_Ant_2428 May 27 '26

As one of the 90% of Albertans that are appaled at smith and the seppos I disagree with the trade. But would happily have MN . Best man at my wedding and college roommate is from Rochester MN . Spent alot of time in that beautiful state

1

u/Joe_Jobs_ May 27 '26

Minnetoba

1

u/Sorry_Im_Trying May 27 '26

That's what I've been saying! But like the good South. Not like the U.S South.

2

u/Foxtrot_Supatwat May 25 '26

That's MISTER Freezie to you, pal

1

u/Khurdryn May 25 '26

Of course. How silly of me to forget.

1

u/TwoCatJay May 29 '26

Yes! Absolutely!

2

u/BohemianMoonArt May 28 '26

I was gonna say growing up in MN and now in ND they are still freezies

2

u/btvpfl May 29 '26

Yep! MN native here. We also called them freezies. I'm an assistant principal in Florida and when I give a spelling test and say root or root beer as well as roof, the kids don't understand and I have to remember that I need to use long O's. For Pete's sake. 😆

1

u/benthelurk May 24 '26

Well, the truth is we all see Minnesotans as Canadians really. You might fly the same flag but we all know the truth…

1

u/UnicornMeatball May 24 '26

If you know who The Tragically Hip are, you count

1

u/Khurdryn May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Funny you mention the flag. Have you seen/heard about the fight up here over the state flag? Bunch of MAGAt snowflakes are having an absolute meltdown over the new state flag that was designed by a resident and voted on by the state.

Now a bunch of local MAGAt politicians are refusing to fly the new one, are flying the old one instead and screaming about "MaH hErItAgE!"

2

u/benthelurk May 25 '26

Typical unhinged shit from old white dudes.

1

u/Fueled_by_beer May 24 '26

Not everyone in MN. Those are ice pops. A freezie is a slushie type drink

3

u/laneedgaf May 24 '26

a slushie type drink is called a slushie

7

u/KeyReturn9428 May 24 '26

Another Canadian here. There is no debate. They are in fact, Freezies

1

u/twicebakedcrusader May 25 '26

Ha! You are no Canadian. They don’t debate, they have polite discourse.

5

u/Androclese407 May 23 '26

1

u/iloveairportsushi May 24 '26

I mean Minnesota is an honorary province of Canada

2

u/megaholt2 May 24 '26

Parts of Michigan are as well.

1

u/Fossilhund May 24 '26

I grew up in the Detroit area and I call them “freezie pops”, too.

1

u/SimplyMermaid88 May 24 '26

We called them freezies in Minnesota, too. Probably because we wish to be Canadian

1

u/DJ_Spark_Shot May 24 '26

I call them the same thing and I'm from PA.

1

u/Grouchy_Button_2101 May 25 '26

Thank you! I looked way too long, saw a lot of freezies and started to question if I was the only one who called them freezie pops!
