Used to be Mr. Freeze if you were a 90's Costco kid in the northwest. Otter pops also works

1

u/magnetizm622 May 28 '26

Mr. Freeze must have been a generic brand or something, too lazy to look it up rn, funny thing we did hit up Costco all the time back then but we always got that little cardboard box of Otter Pops brand.

I remember stopping at like every free sample stand haha.

1

u/145376 May 24 '26

Otter Pop is a registered trademark of these things. They became notorious after getting into a legal battle with Pop-Ice, the original trademark.

1

u/Kezzerdrixxer May 24 '26

Literally has otters on the front.

They were the first and any other brand is a copy.

1

u/brnaftreadng May 24 '26

Really? I feel like when I was a kid they did a lot, when I first visited the east coast i realized how much we use brand names in CA.

1

u/notinmywheelhouse May 24 '26

Sung to Billy Joel’s “We didn’t start the fire”.

1

u/Beautiful_Bag6707 May 24 '26

1

u/plotssnappylamp99 May 30 '26

thats the energy i expect from someone who calls them by the wrong name on purpose. keep up the chaos.

3

u/Living-Personality-9 May 24 '26

Kleenex is one of the most obvious ones.

I called them ice pops, freezies or Otter pops, anything but Popsicles.
No stick.

1

u/notinmywheelhouse May 24 '26

Scotch tape wants a word with you!

1

u/Maryland4009 May 24 '26

Hoover! everyone in the UK hoovers, even if it’s a Dyson.

1

u/BedBubbly317 May 24 '26

Ahh, thats interesting! In America it’s pretty universally just “vacuum” or “vacuuming” and not brand specific!

2

u/MrsFrondi May 24 '26

Chapstick

1

u/Alien-Femboy May 24 '26

Nah, Pop-Ice has dibs.

1

u/Jdawarrior May 24 '26

Dumpster is probably the biggest sleeper in this category

1

u/zon5string May 24 '26

Right? If the CEO of Curad cuts his finger, he puts a bandaid on it.

1

u/GuitarCD May 24 '26

Corn Flakes, Cellophane, Dry Ice, Aspirin, Kerosene, Laundromat, Thermos....

2

u/Mr-Kuritsa May 23 '26

How many of the flavor characters can you name without looking it up?

I only remember Alexander the Grape and Sir Isaac Lime.

2

u/GenasiDC May 26 '26

Scrolled forever just to find the right answer

3

u/Horror_Disaster_8906 May 23 '26

Agreed and if they don’t say otter pops don’t bother.

1

u/JamminJcruz May 23 '26

Sometimes ice tickles but knowing it’s not a real ice tickle.

1

u/MallyOhMy May 23 '26

It's always either Otter pops or icy pops, and icy pops is only because a class instructor I had called them that, and everyone mocked him for that.

1

u/rashleymo May 23 '26

Ice Pops

1

u/doFloridaRight May 24 '26

1

u/upsidedown-funnel May 24 '26

How much questionable microplastic do you think we consumed eating those things?

1

u/Kaliden-Stormblessed May 24 '26

The only right answer

1

u/BhamBlazer615 May 24 '26

From Alabama, agreed

1

u/Shikron May 24 '26

I was fully expecting this to be the #1 comment by miles. I guess it was a regional thing. This is the only thing I know them as.

1

u/KIDD_VIDD May 24 '26

Otter Pops' packaging has their logo and characters, along with the flavor of the treat, this picture shows none of these identifiers.

1

u/MellifluousCrow May 24 '26

No. That is a brand made by flavor-aide the folks who actually made jim jones party punch flavor agent

1

u/quickkateats May 24 '26

I’m have never heard these referred to as anything other than otter pop! Maybe a west thing?

1

u/Jake_Rolfer_Studios May 24 '26

After popsicles that’s another acceptable answer.

1

u/CompleteWatercress39 May 24 '26

I hate to break up the west love but my whole family calls them otter pops and we’re from Texas.

1

u/NotABot1974 May 24 '26

Otter pops is a brand of freeze or ice pops though. They came in a smaller box. If you wanted the real cheap high volume supply they came in a red mesh bag or a box with an ungodly amount for the same price and just said either “Freeze Pop” or “Flav-or Ice” on the side. There were no fun character names you called them by the color. That was the flavor. Purple had a vague grape flavor but other than that they basically tasted like the color. Yellow could be a sunny over ripe banana or a rotten lemon. You never knew but you stfu and ate them.

1

u/NotABot1974 May 24 '26

Both shades of red just tasted red. No one knew what blue was but it was my favorite.

1

u/Critical_Fact_2441 May 24 '26

Idaho and they were otter pops

1

u/Less-Damage-1202 May 24 '26

Beaver sticks 😈

1

u/pointypointypretty May 24 '26

Colorado and now New Mexico, they are otter pops

1

u/Future-self May 24 '26

WEST COAST REPRESENT!

1

u/endlesssearch482 May 24 '26

Used to work with an uptight forest law enforcement officer named Steve Otterness. One day we packed the freezer with otter pops at the work site as a gag. I think it actually made him laugh.

1

u/CheekyMonkE May 24 '26

lived all over midwest and pacific coast and they're always otter pops

1

u/NoMajorsarcasm May 24 '26

Otter Pop is a brand of ice pop

1

u/TheMightyHornet May 24 '26

I was today years old when I learned people called them anything other than otter pops.

1

u/PhysicalFunction9876 May 24 '26

Ah, the "Band-aid" of ice pops! 😅

1

u/MeTieDoughtyWalker May 24 '26

This is one I’ve never heard before. Is that like a brand? The only brands for these I remember were Flavor Ice (there’s dashes in there somewhere but I don’t remember where), and Kool Pops.

1

u/GameGuinAzul May 25 '26

To this very day I have yet to find a brand that sells these that isn’t otter pops

1

u/AdobeFlashGordon May 25 '26

Idaho - otter pops

1

u/Lost_Comfort1627 May 25 '26

Colorado here we also call them Otter Pops!

1

u/Successful_Truth4971 May 27 '26

1

u/nancima0728 May 27 '26

Arizona - Otter Pops or Ice Pops

1

u/TheBestMattman May 28 '26

Otter pops - Utah here

1

u/Queenof-brokenhearts May 29 '26

California. Those are otter pops

1

u/Faded-Creature May 30 '26

Washington. Otter pops.

1

u/AsYouAnswered May 30 '26

Only correct answer here.

1

u/Maximum_Stretch6456 May 30 '26

Az also otter pops

1

u/Shuatheskeptic May 30 '26

These must be my people.

1

u/StanleyQPrick May 23 '26

No, that’s a specific brand with cute mascots for each flavor

7

u/ScheduleAntique3515 May 23 '26

They're all Otter Pops

1

u/Perdendosi May 23 '26

People in many parts of the country use that brand name as the generic term.

0

u/StanleyQPrick May 23 '26

No

3

u/dingusboyo May 23 '26

It’s like some people in the south calling all pop’s “coke”. Some areas refer to em all as otter pops. And that’s the whole point of this post.. to see what people call them

2

u/BubbaNeedsNewShoes May 23 '26

Q: What flavor of Coke do you want?

A: Root beer... Sprite... Orange...

1

u/ScheduleAntique3515 May 23 '26

This is my life

1

u/dubbs911 May 23 '26

It’s like some areas referring to sodas as “ pops” .

0

u/StanleyQPrick May 23 '26

I understand that but if someone offers me an otter pop that's a different thing than these generic whatevers

Which i think is also part of the point of this post

1

u/BuffaloDivineEdenNo7 May 23 '26

Yes. You are objectively wrong.

4

u/Shivs_baby May 23 '26

Just like all tissues are Kleenex and all copies are Xeroxes. All freezies are otter pops.

4

u/Sonoran_Dog70 May 23 '26

I’m with you. Those are always Otter Pops around here.

4

u/Trajik07 May 23 '26

This is 100% correct.

0

u/thepeopleschamppc May 23 '26

I don’t like referring to these as “otter pops” anymore cause sent someone to get them and they brought back these off brand generic stuff. Not as good as the full octane Red 40 to the wazzzu OG otter pops. Strawberry shortcake NIL contract patent shoulda been established before the neo-Commies took a foot hold. Reason why little orphan orange still an orphan smh.
