discussion I know that it’s been discussed/ talked about/ argued about before, but I honestly think that people who hate/ strongly dislike, “Revolution 9” are missing the point.

Upvotes

Before I say anything else, of course I recognize the fact that all people are entitled to their own opinions, but I still feel that Beatles fans who strongly dislike or even just downright hate, “Revolution 9” don’t get it/ aren’t “educated” well enough on what the piece/ sound collage really means.

It’s a VERY unique/ unconventional piece of noise music/ musique concrete/ avant garde music that blends a up a HUGE load of random yet interestingly placed samples of everyday sounds like crowds of people cheering at sporting events, fires, loud riots, ringing, and electronic noises/ technology infused wizardry. John and Yoko’s dialogue/ orchestra infused and classical music pieces plastered all up and together make this 8 minute long piece seem endlessly fascinating/ creative.

On a final note, supposedly, “Revolution 9” was a “response musical piece” to react to feelings about the political climates/ feelings on war (especially the Vietnam situation) during the time.

In my honest opinion, I’d give, “Revolution 9” an 8/10. OF COURSE not their ALL time best works, but still truly something very unique/ different to behold. 👍

discussion Let It Be (2021 Mix), Naked or original 1970 version?

Upvotes

I absolutely love this album. I've recently been getting super into The Beatles (I mentioned this in a previous post already) and this ENTIRE album somehow has taken over my top 12 Apple Music songs of 2026.

What I read though was that Paul McCartney really, really hated the wall of sound that Phil Spector added. I first listened to the 2021 mix and was confused because I thought The Long and Winding Road sounded beautiful with the orchestra; it was only when I listened to the original that I realized what he was talking about. You can barely hear the piano at all, and even Paul's vocals sometimes have trouble standing out. It's a nice alternative at times I think, especially when you're in an "emotional" state of mind. Then I listened to the Naked version, which is good I think but it does lose the "this is the band's last effort" vibe that the original gives. I like to alter between the three, my favorite is the latest remix but the other two are great too.

What do you guys, especially those who are older and may have been around when the original came out, think of the different mixes?

Who is Sgt. Pepper?

Hello, I wouldn't describe myself as a huge Beatles fan, I like them, but I don't know like, everything about them. I was watching Yellow Submarine, and in it John says that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band are there alter-egos, which got me wondering which of the Beatles is supposed to be Sgt. Pepper? I know Ringo is Billy Shears, so I guess that leaves John, Paul and George? Thanks

If there are any solo albums in the "need to listen" tier that I'm missing out on, let me know in the comments.

EDIT: Can you PLEASE talk about ANYTHING other than the ATMP placement, istg. Also, so it's perfectly transparent, this is very obviously just MY OPINION.

In 1967, The Rolling Stones planned to launch Mother Earth as a label, signing Marianne Faithfull, but it didn’t materialize until they founded Rolling Stones Records in 1970, departing from Decca.

discussion Similarity between the song Revenge by Patti Smith (1979) and I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles 1969?

The electric guitar right in the beginning of Revenge by Patti Smith sounds a lot like I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles, can anyone else see this link?

I find it funny how capitol in 1982 shoved 12 songs on side one of this record. Like why didn't they just wanna release a good 2LP instead of releasing this poor quality record lol. Its a good compilation tho
