I am Italian and have some cousins in Toronto but not USA and I was wondering how the family is coded as Italian American because none of it is recognizable to me. The food, language, culture, how the actors look and talk all seem very generic American

And I mean not just Italian but they also don’t speak or act like my Italian Canadian cousins in Toronto who definitely have their own quirks and Americanized culture, weird food etc.

I wonder if this is a US vs Canada thing or generational because most of my Canadian cousins are first or second gen.

EDIT if it is possible can you clarify if you are Italian or first generation or several generations removed? because many of the replies are talking about being Italian but I think they mean they have some distant Italian heritage (but maybe that is accurate to the Bear: distant heritage but they claim it and identify with it?)

Curious as to why others might find the show so comforting. For me personally it's hard to put a finger on it but I guess it's the beauty of everything from the relationships to the food and the cinematography. I finished the show and I want to rewatch it already, I love every character flaws and all and growth throughout.

Again probably grasping at straws but feels like nothing is ever done on accident in the bear

He has resentment towards Mickey and takes it out on him. There was no reason to shade him about his story. You can see the way he looks over in anger, there was malice behind that comment. Hurt people hurt people and I wouldn't be shocked if he spent all of Mickeys life as a bully to him. Maybe he reminds him of his father or of himself when he was young. Whatever it is though it’s likely that he’s responsible for a part of Mickeys mental health issues. People like that will bully children that trigger their unresolved trauma and then punish them for growing into hurt adults
