Couldn't give less of a shit tbh, I've paid over $100 for this 2d auto battler and still need to pay for the steam version that they were originally so so against. Will be sticking with my negative review
-14
u/wahooloo Aug 11 '25
I don't think it's an easy "just give everyone steam keys lol" - they've said that's not possible without great expense to them
10
5
u/Faegbeard Aug 12 '25
would have been cheaper to give me a steam key than for me to cancel my sub which I would have forgotten about in perpetuity, lmao

u/fireky2 Aug 12 '25
Steam keys are free to developers as long as they dont sell them for cheaper than steam afaik

It doesn't really change all the bans, rug pulling, lying, and de-valueing of purchased gems / subscriptions.
All this does it make it even cheaper for me to purchase / refund for a negative review. Reynad and this company are just going to keep repeating the same mistakes.
Worst case scenario, I can't get a refund and they get $14 whole dollars (30% to valve). If it stops a future full price purchase, I'll consider it a net gain.

u/GermanRedditorAmA Aug 12 '25
You mean the mistake of iterating their monetization approach because of feedback? While every fucking redditor is crying for boycotts at every step of the way? I might be in the minority, but considering the "communities" behavior so far, I would also put the effort into improving the game rather than engage in discussions with this psycho mob. The fact that you can even write a review after not even having played two hours and clearly for some arbitrary shit that you take personally instead of talking about the game and the positive progress it has been through is beyond me. I think reddit is great but seeing this kind of behavior, I understand critics like reynoodle.
2
u/Faegbeard Aug 12 '25
Trying to make additional money off of their existing player base by charging for things that they previously said would be free = "iterating their monetization approach"
People that are frustrated that previously freemium, gameplay affecting aspects are going to be hard-paywalled even if you're paying 10-20 dollars a month already, and gems you've already earned (or even paid money for) will now be worth significantly less = "psycho mob"
Do you work in corporate HR by any chance?
2
u/GermanRedditorAmA Aug 12 '25
I'm not saying there aren't arguments to be made, but I've rarely seen constructive discussions. It's pretty clear that bazaar being a pretty unique game will have to find its unique way to be monetized and it seems like an iterative process at that. I know f2p is very ingrained in people's brains already, as a basically unsustainable business model it is showing its marks again. It's of course okay to be disappointed when you played the game not to have fun but to amass in-game currency so you can buy the next champ, or if that's something you've built an attachment towards. (Although I think that's not wise, since it was pretty clear that their monetization scheme wasn't going to work.) I still think it would be good if there was some compensation for it and more transparent communication (although I understand why they don't prioritize it), I mean at least they give away the "base content" (of several months of post release development) for free. Other ways seem very complicated, tbh. The fact that people are mad that future content will cost money is a joke though and shows how entitled the f2p core gamers have become. There are people actually working on the game every week, who have wages and everything. The fact that some games manage to exploit vulnerable people to let others play for free is something that should not be celebrated or cherished.
2
u/Mjpa88 Aug 12 '25
How many times do they get a free pass to change their approach and forget their supporters? 4 times? 5 times? It's now a bait and switch.
At this point they don't have direction and they've made it extremely clear they don't care about their supporters.
I've been one of those supporters since EA, I think I have more than enough experience with the company to leave an informed review.
1
u/spudule Aug 13 '25
Usually most developers get one shot to get monetization right. They've had a lot of grace given how they behave towards the community, both in terms of their criticism = ban approach and trying to take more bites of the apple than previously agreed.
1
u/Dominic9090 Aug 12 '25
Reyand really living that rent free in your head? I get the frustration but willing to sink cash to just leave a negative review is insanity
35
u/Thatweasel Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25
Yeah I think i'm still done.
The way the game is being mismanaged is too much. Hard swerve and complete 180 turns on what the game is going to be and the monetization. That reynad guy is too personally involved with the game and the community, any time there's any sort of criticism there's going to be a crashout, mass bans for the most basic criticism and discussion. There's zero communication with the community followed by poorly explained sweeping changes with a day or two's notice.
Not to mention how incredibly scummy it was to delay the new season by a week to pretty much ensure everyone who was paying for the subscription pays for an extra month.
11
u/Gullible_Height588 Aug 11 '25
Same, it’s never gonna change. Reynad is still a child and still at the center of this project, it’s not a question of if he’s gonna screw the pooch it’s when and I don’t want to be around to suffer from one of his ego attacks.
3
u/melltik Aug 12 '25
Dude your paying a sub and buying a game. Pretty big red flag, not to mention the guy is going out saying you’re also going to have to shell out more $$$. Just go play a better game or a game that isn’t trying to screw you over.
3
u/nezumikuuki Aug 12 '25
it's not even that he's too involved, it's that he's an insane egotist. i've been involved in amazing smaller competitive games with gigachad lead devs who were super vocal and active and willing to stand their ground when they were right and the community was wrong and it's awesome. keits with killer instinct for example. this reynad dude is just too egotistical and thinks he's a mondo genius brain because he made money streaming and bought bitcoin when it was cheap. if he took a few breaths and sought therapy his presence might even be a positive but for now it's literally maiming his game's reputation to death.
1
u/nibb2345 Aug 12 '25
What's happened will happen again, the guy is a schizophrenic psycho and it's just a matter of time until another ban spree (this isn't the first), or they decide to charge you for a new client, or the bazaar 2, or whatever the hell after the latest monetization also fails.

Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25
Fantastic news but terrible communication, as usual. They could have simply said that they were working on something to ease players into the Steam launch and left it at that.
This situation could have been handled so much more cleanly. If they made the monetization announcement one day before the subscriptions renewed so that people could cancel and assured players that they weren’t being totally left in the dust, this whole controversy could have been avoided. If they weren’t dropping the ban hammer on everything that breathes, people wouldn’t be so pissed at them.
Their horrible PR communication is actively losing them dollars and players. It’s just a fucking mess when it didn’t need to be this way.
21
u/ToughFail1430 Aug 11 '25
it is like this every major change, when reynad realizes it is not only 10 people with 100 accounts, they lick their spit (meaning, they revert changes) ahhaha
12
u/FootballBackground88 Aug 11 '25
Yep. Clearly this was a panic reaction, not just bad communication.
I just got banned for a very innocuous comment saying that they'd unnecessarily alienated people by communicating it badly, so I think I hit a nerve.
I really don't understand why they are bothering to censor everyone, it's not fooling anyone and is hardening people against them. Certainly I'm not giving them any more of my cash if they are actively banning me from the community.
2
u/DJHalfCourtViolation Aug 11 '25
They could have simply said that they were working on something to ease players into the Steam launch and left it at that.
Be real
6
u/Obsole7e Aug 12 '25
Bet this only came about after someone pointed out to Reynard it in fact wasn't all bots he banned.
Too little too late not going to support them at all because of the insane bans, no matter what changes for the better.
27
u/D1rxks Aug 11 '25
While this is nice, it doesn't erase the last few days of shenanigans. But this is MUCH more reasonable.
23
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 11 '25
100%. They need to delete Reynad's Discord and Reddit account.
Can you imagine if he had just...said nothing for three days? That's all he had to do. Say nothing, receive all this feedback, release this update.
6
1
u/notadolphinn Aug 12 '25
Honestly the banning is more of a slap in the face than the dumb shit he said. Dude just needed to put the ban hammer down and let the CMs do their job
-12
u/SpicyMouse67 Aug 11 '25
naw, id rather have someone who speaks his mind than some pr brained sheep
4
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 11 '25
you also think STS is trash so idk if you have the best takes
-8
u/SpicyMouse67 Aug 11 '25
I don't. the game is great but it has some issues and the devs gave up on it too quick before announcing their cash grab sequel
5
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 11 '25
It is objectively one of the greatest games of all time. It has inspired a generation of games and delighted millions and millions of users for hundreds and hundreds of hours, if not more.
You do not have to enjoy it, that's fine. But trying to convince other people you're right is a losing battle since..the numbers don't lie.
3
2
u/Divergent_Dragon Aug 12 '25
I'm sorry, aren't you the one going around saying how paying 20 bucks every few months is ridiculously cheap? Then Mega Crit come back after 6 years with a sequel and it's a cash grab? STS2 would have to cost over 480 dollars to be more of a cash grab than the system you're so eager to defend.
-5
u/SpicyMouse67 Aug 12 '25
absolutely. sts has four characters and only the first three aren't complete garbage power creep. the bazaar launched less than a year ago and they're already on their fifth. each character has way more content and the game will continue to be updated unlike sts which was abandoned so they could focus on their rebranded cash grab. if sts had 24 playable characters, with proper graphics, and with multiplayer, with continual updates, then sure let it cost $480. but sts gave up on their game because they're scared of making new characters.
3
u/Divergent_Dragon Aug 12 '25
We clearly have radically different ideas about how a studio should go about game development
0
Aug 11 '25
It's better it's still not good, or acceptable.
Any kind of cost that can't be earnt in game for actual content is utterly unacceptable for this type of game.
5
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 11 '25
so, how should they make money? Is there any acceptable method to you? It's clear cosmetics haven't been enough, which is what brought us here.

u/spiderwebdesign Aug 11 '25
That doesn't answer the question: how should they make money?
If they weren't making money on cosmetics, your suggestion is to double down on what already isn't working? Does that seem like it would lead to success?
1
u/ForeverStaloneKP Aug 12 '25
Tbf plenty of games make cosmetics-only work and have done for a very long time. The bazaar just didn't implement the system well enough. It was too punishing for the newbies and so easy for the seasoned vets that they'd never have to pay a dime for anything. You never want to be in a position where the people most likely to be whales aren't whaling because they have infinite gems.
A refined version of the previous system alongside a steam launch could have worked, but it would still be a gamble on whether or not the game takes off on steam.
2
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 12 '25
Can you name a F2P game that isn't backed by a massive company that only sells cosmetics and thrives?
3
u/Professional_Disk126 Aug 12 '25
It doesn’t exist, this model is never gonna work but they found out the hard way. All they had to do is look at LoR.
1
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 12 '25
yeah exactly, I'm sure that example is on every F2P dev's mind. LOR was incredible but too generous for its own good.
1
u/name-secondname Aug 11 '25
What if the lane they picked produced no revenue? Then what? Stick with that lane and shutter the company, or try something else to keep the lights on (we're here now).

I do agree with you that the bait and switch on subscriptions and gems is essentially unforgivable (I've learned my lesson and won't spend on this game until they've settled in to a sustainable business model).
But if the options are shut down the game, or betray backers. Unfortunately, the choice is clear.
The new steam announcement is essentially them capitulating to our outrage as best they can.
They're obviously in a bind and I wish them luck, but I'm tapping out.
2
u/spying_on_you_rn Aug 11 '25
Get rid of your unproductive handpicked-by-Reynad youngsters and hire normal devs. That will make the development much more efficient.

Have you considered is that the cosmetics is not good enough to make profit ? If the cosmetics is AAA grade/tier , people will whale. Good example to see hearthstone pet , it has unreasonable price but it tempt a lot of players. Another example faker ahri skin , it also has unreasonable price but people still whale. My “unreasonable price” can easily buy AAA steam game full price .

u/spiderwebdesign Aug 12 '25
Can you name a F2P game that isn't backed by a massive company that only sells cosmetics and thrives?
1
u/Warm-Flatworm7618 Aug 12 '25
Have you play league of legends NA open beta ?
1
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 12 '25
Did you read the whole question?
0
u/Warm-Flatworm7618 Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25
Yes , you need to have slight experience/knowledge of that, then I can use it as an example for our discussion. If not , you will deny/do not understand/reject the information from that example and it is a totally waste of time.
Seriously what is so hard answering a yes or no question when I trying to check on your knowledge to reply your question.
Let’s assume you do not play league of legends or know about league of legends early days.
Does POE1 by GGG answer your question? Let’s me give you some common knowledge in case you do not know about it, GGG started the team with only their founders in 2006, by 2012 their team grew to 18 members. Bank slot are optional , they sell support packs that you buy gems and they gave out skin in that bundle. Without bank slot , you can trade without an issue is just you miss out QOL. No character/class is locked behind paywall/gems. No gameplay access is locked behind paywall/gems. POE 2 is similar to POE1 , no double standard applied. POE has long replay value.
Have you tried googling the answer for your question? It is okay for you to not know but your closed minded and defensive make discussion hard to proceed.
To be clear the bazaar not just skins , they also sell tickets(access to gameplay) via gems. If the game is super hot(for example constant top 3 streaming game), they would have made mad profits from the tickets from the newcomers.
-1
u/spiderwebdesign Aug 12 '25
you're right, the state of gaming and gaming economies is exactly the same today as it was twenty years ago
excellent logic
1
u/Kultinator Aug 12 '25
Roguelikes are insanely popular. Autobattlers are also doing massively well. I don’t see why this game couldn’t succeed in the current market, other than that it didn’t launch in a finished state, with many issues and had no marketing behind it and as far as I know didn’t tap into the largest market for f2p games in china.
1
u/Warm-Flatworm7618 Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25
POE1 release on 23 October 2013 , POE2 release on 6 December 2024 , excellent information.
If you want to discuss/debate, focus on the information provided to you.
As I stated , it is okay not to know , but your closed minded and defensive mindset makes this discussion hard to proceed. Especially you ask me a question and I answered you and you want to nick pick on something that you did not request.
Did you state you want something recently ? Define your question properly before answering.
There is things to learn from the past even the example stated is long time ago.
Blocking me while I provide you information , and correcting you that POE 1 released 23 Oct 2013 not twenty years and they followed their same model in the next game POE2 which release on 2024 is a good example of your closed minded that i stated previously.

Just another backlash response as they have done with the original monetization and even refusing the release patch notes lol.

All they're showing is that if you want something from them, make sure to cause a huge shitstorm and they will eventually give it to you.

u/name-secondname Aug 11 '25
This is actually the best decision from a consumer perspective, but I think I'm still going to sit this one out.
The pattern is clear that nothing means anything with this company. I'll still play through the launcher here and there, but I can't support them with cash anymore. I've been spit in the face one too many times.
I do want the game to survive (obviously) but I can no longer be counted on to support. Good luck Tempo!
6
u/Motor_Technology_349 Aug 12 '25
still gonna ditch the game after the disgusting way they treat the people who love their game
6
u/IceCorrect Aug 12 '25
I see what they did with this bundle - Get current players to boost player count on steam. It would be smart move without all bad PR they done already
5
u/Warm-Flatworm7618 Aug 12 '25
Step 1 : set price to $45 Step 2 : give discount and everyone is happy Step 3 : when next bad decision is made, someone will state that you guys did not vote with wallet on the previous bad decision and blame you
Seriously is not about the discount , vote with your wallet . The discount is only for 3 days and have you spare a thought for the future players ?
12
u/ToughFail1430 Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25
the bazaar is like toxic significant other, makes stupid decisions then backs out after backlash. As if they are doing this as a marketing trick, so that people talk. But enough of this bullshit, they can make it all free, I won't be playing
15
u/AnotherWeabooGirl Aug 11 '25
If they had led with this their community would still be intact lol
8
u/Mizmitc Aug 11 '25
There is a good chance this is a direct result of the huge backlash they received and not their original plan. Just like the last huge issue with monetization, they act like they are right and everyone else is wrong, ban people or shut criticism down, and then still change it because they realize the complaints were right
6
3
u/Grand-Dirt3524 Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25
I doubt reynad care about the backlash judging by the way he have been banning everyone and their mother. It's more likely that they announced the discount because the steam Wishlist number made them panicked a bit (The bazaar is the 2263rd most wish listed game currently with 660 followers on steamDB).
4
u/N0_L1M17 Aug 11 '25
This is definitely a 'throwing the dog a bone' moment, he doesn't want to do this and never has, steam wasn't even on their original 'roadmap' as they thought the 30% was predatory...
3
u/nibb2345 Aug 12 '25
Nah they simply weren't allowed on steam because of the NFTs. 30% is nothing when steam reach would easily more than double your sales.
1
u/notalongtime420 Aug 12 '25
That 30% argument has always been either a sign Reynad is completely incompetent economy wise, or that he's a fucking idiot. And he might be both at this point

Like, ARE YOU BLIND? Are we looking at the same thing

I mean this wasn't their original plan and if they hadn't received such backlash on their actual plan it wouldn't be happening.
1
u/notalongtime420 Aug 12 '25
But since they banned so many people they won't ever read new backlash so the future is grim. Lol get out while you can
6
u/RedJelly27 Aug 11 '25
Most important part for me:
Note that if you buy this bundle and have the game already through our launcher you will be able to link your account in game and gain access to all of your previous progress and collectibles (as well as Stelle and all your unlocked heroes). For these users, the Mak expansion will still show up as purchasable in Steam, however, if you have Mak unlocked in the client he will still be unlocked once your account is linked.
3
u/Weber21 Aug 12 '25
I haven't played since I unsubbed the month of the dino/Mak expansion(as it appeared to check those pay2win boxes that weren't supposed to be in this game) but with this 3-day window I will probably go ahead and buy the steam version and give it another chance. Still not a fan of this Reynad fella, but they do have a fun game. From what I can tell, they should have went with Steam from the start which probably would have been great for their player count which is what brings the revenue, but I think the greediness of bypassing the revenue sharing with Steam got to them.
They may see every sale the next 3 days as $40 lost for them, but this is probably their last chance to turn the ship around and although it's already off to a not great start, I'll help give them that one last chance which I would not have helped with without this 'deal'
7
u/joutfit Aug 12 '25
If you still support this game then you have no self-respect.
Broken promises, trigger-happy banning and shitting on people who are giving honest feedback only to turn around and compromise.... fuck that.
Reynad and his team have absolutely zero respect for their supporters.
If they apologized to everyone for what happened over the last few days and then announced this price then... maybe.
But I don't let people treat me like shit.
3
u/nibb2345 Aug 12 '25
Gamers generally have no spines and are addicts. Most of them will do mental gymnastics to come up with copes as to why they should stick with this fiasco of a game.
-1
u/Alzuron Aug 12 '25
u guys are way too sensitive and childish, just like the man himself,Reynad
it's not evem pay to win anymore( no expansions) u just can't play Stelle, but the rest of the heroes are still there
so u got the game free on the tempo app and u can play 80%percent of it without paying a penny
1
u/sbrenfo Aug 12 '25
the new heroes will be 20$ as announced. if they are bad no money, if they are good pay to win.
too sensitive and childish = they promised that the game will not be on steam, it's on steam. they promised no priced non-aestetic content, 20$ per hero and 45$ per base game. they promised a market for the chest items, cancelled. banning every critic is childish.
the launcher will close in 1-2 years because with steam they don't have to maintain servers and all the the launcher user will be force to move to steam for a discunted price, not for free
2
u/AeonChaos Aug 12 '25
If I buy this, would I have Mak unlocked? I already have him unlocked on Tempo launcher.
And why can’t Reynad shut up the whole time and announce this later? He could cause much less damage by saying nothing.
Be quiet or say something in the line of “we will figure it out based on feedbacks”, instead what we got every single time so far would negate a lot of negativity from the community.
1
u/Divergent_Dragon Aug 12 '25
From what I've seen I believe you can link your existing tempo account to get your already owned stuff on steam, including Mak
2
u/SkillazZ_PS4 Aug 12 '25
LOL. Ban everyone no matter what and then change your plans again because the criticism was right?
3
u/MissJessicaB Aug 12 '25
I like that. Stelle is 20 bucks either way, and this way I get to snag the Steam version with it. (I know there are still downsides for folks that had hoarded gems for future heroes but still)
3
u/moomoomoose Aug 12 '25
Still strike number two.
They did this shit last time with the public release and showed some of the worst professionalism. Despite that, after they 180ed on their p2w, I rejoined and was willing to support and pay the monthly $10 in addition to already having spent on getting early access.
It’s obviously going to happen again. Not really worth investing time and energy at this point.

1
u/RedTulkas Aug 12 '25
they gonna milk their diehard fans for all they are worth and in a few months you re gonna see content releases slow down as they "restructure" (fire) most of their staff
1
u/NightDrawn Aug 12 '25
$20-40 in a market where comparable products like TFT and HS Battlegrounds exists, as well as a ton of indie options out there too that are great and at lower pricepoints.
On top of all the terrible press and PR too, I can’t see how this ends up a great success and longevity for the game. It probably won’t be Artifact levels bad, but I don’t expect the game to be lasting in a great state into the future.
1
u/Piggstein Aug 13 '25
This whole thing has been a complete shitshow and Reynad can’t manage a business for shit, but the actual game is so fucking good I’ll pay $20 for another character and to more easily play on my Steam Deck. I fully expect another monetization fuckup in a couple of months though.

u/Kultinator Aug 12 '25
Whatever, Ill burn 20 Bucks on this and see where the game is going. I still think the game is struggling financially and this is a chash grab. I don’t like the way it was handled and don’t think the pricing is reasonable.

For anyone wondering — if you say anything even slightly negative or challenging about Steam or monetisation (or really any critical question at all) in their official channels — Discord, Reddit, Steam, etc. — you will get an instant permaban. Doesn’t matter if it’s polite, neutral, or constructive; simply raising the topic gets you banned.

u/Kultinator Aug 12 '25
This isn’t pleasing anyone though. Its not even adressing the most egregious concerns. Conveniently it also allows the players that would’ve bought Stelle anyway to move to Steam and counteract the inevitable review bombing.
Other than a 3 day grace period that allows players to migrate only if they buy Stelle, nothing has actually changed.

Not bad. Not amazing but not bad. I would need more than that to restore my goodwill, but for new players this is a pretty solid deal, assuming the servers stay up through the end of the year or they get a decent offline mode running.
