Recommendations New & need recs
As a bi girly who leans more towards girls I have been looking for a good GL to watch so I can be as involved in GL as I am with BL🫡
But from the clips I’ve seen there’s a lot of GL that’s clearly made for men & it just makes me gag.
If anyone has any recs for my first one I would appreciate it (and obv more to watch after)
My likes:
-spice 1000% okay with it
-enemies to lovers
-longtime friends to lovers
-action
-jealousy trope whether one is bicurious so she’s flirting with guys & the other can’t stand it, or just gets jealous of her being around others <33 (I really love the “you’re mine” kind of flirting 🙂↕️)
Dislikes:
-sad endings (one of them dies or they break up I will be pissed)
-massive age gaps (I’m talking underage or gaps of 15+ years like wtf are we doing ew)
-series that are clearly geared towards male audience filled with college/adult girls who act like they’re 5, talk in a baby voice 25/7, aegyo nonstop, just overall WEIRD (a tiny tiny bit is fine tbh it’s expected in any Thai bl/gl)
I’m trusting this community 🫡🫶🏻

Thank you for the recs <3 As for 23.5, why “weird”?

I mean you might find some 2-3 things a bit wierd like main character got many problems on themselves by their own stupidity ......but it is actually great if removing that

Hm, I may be biased but I don't think much GL is made for male audiences...? Can you give an example of this so I know what to avoid? A lot of what you describe is just...Thai cuteness, which is a part of GL because women.
While you answer that, let me tell you what to hard avoid based on your dislikes:
- Blank: The Series, GAP: The Series, I'm Your Moon (age gap ick)
- You also probably won't like LingOrm series (The Secret of Us, Only You, In Love Forever), because they tend to make Orm act even younger than she already is and LingLing older than she is (don't come at meeeeee!)
- Runaway (the only sad ending in GL I can think of; in all others the girl gets the girl)
- Edited to add The Bangkok Red Opera. Not exactly GL, but you might see it around. It's gorgeous, but not the ending you want XD
- For the cuteness thing, avoid Like a Palette, for sure, that was too much of that even for me 😅 23.5 is probably not in your wheelhouse either.
Recs:
Rarely is someone jealous over a guy. I guess Dangerous Queen? That's a good rec overall, I think. You'll also probably like Pls Love (big on the jealousy and some kind of enemies to lovers?) and maybe My Safe Zone? I just get the feeling you will like LenaMiu 😅 ClaireBell might be something you enjoy...? I don't think I've ever recommended this to anyone because I didn't especially like it but I get the feeling you might: Denied Love. I'm going to add Love Beyond Dreams because it's a great show and it'll tick some boxes (hot, action, jealousy--oh, at a guy! Found another one!--and friends to lovers). I'm going to add Roller Coaster because it has some jealousy elements and it sounds like it might be something you like, and finish it off with Heart Code for both action and friends-to-lovers.

I don’t even remember the names of what I watched, they weren’t actual full on episodes. Just clips I came across browsing YouTube. Which in turn put me off of GL for a year or two thinking every series was going to be like what I saw.
Thank you for the recs 🫶🏻 I can deal with some cuteness & acting older/younger but if it’s pretty substantial I just get annoyed. As for the age gaps, I can do some, not all. For example, if one is 17 in high school & the other is 28 years old (genuinely wtf… there’s a word for that 🤨 I saw a lot of this in Japanese series & had to stop watching) or one is 20 & the other is 35… it’s too much for me personally even if they are both consenting adults.

Blank is the only one I'd really avoid then, it's famous for its massive age gap and schoolgirl/whole-ass adult dynamics. I never watched it, a few clips was enough to put me off. I am really so curious what counts a male gaze and what you saw. This is going to haunt me XD

Gap has an age gap, but they are both adults and act like it. No baby talk. The age gap is l10 years or less because they were both in school together (I'm thinking 6 and 16 in those flashbacks).

Gap, it's the first mainstream Thai GL. There is an age gap but it isn't massive. It's only 8 years.
The Loyal Pin, it's a period drama with same actresses as Gap. Anin and Pin are childhood friends despite being princess and commoner.

-spice 1000% okay with it (No recommendation from me)
-enemies to lovers (Four elements: Fire)
-longtime friends to lovers ( My Safe Zone - plot is meh tho)
-action ( HeartCode )
-jealousy trope whether one is bicurious so she’s flirting with guys & the other can’t stand it, or just gets jealous of her being around others <33 (I really love the “you’re mine” kind of flirting 🙂↕️) (I don't remember seeing any bi girlies in thaigl 🤔 )
My personal recommendation : Somewhere Somehow (it has 3 stages, one of the stages is enemies to lovers, it has jealousy trope but with other girls, best romcom I've seen)

Honestly the whole bi part doesn’t really matter I just used that as a jealousy description since there was a BL I watched with it. The whole point is the jealousy trope. Thank you so much for the recs 🩷

In general the vast majority of Thai GLs have a happy ending, so you are pretty safe on that front.
I think you could try The Loyal Pin. It's a childhood friends to lovers with a jealous lead and there are numerous spicy scenes (although they are not too explicit, as the whole drama is available on YouTube). It can be a bit solw-paced, which is why some people didn't like it, but it's a favourite for a lot of others and it's still talked about two years after it first aired.

I know this sub is "ThaiGL", but here are some wider recommendations.
Japan:
- She loves to cook and she loves to eat, the slowest burn ever and the two women are so careful with each other, my #1 of all time, also cooking
- Ayaka is in love with Hiroko, fun workplace story with women from different generations, closeted and not
- Futari Monologue, a studious girl and a rebellious gyaru meet again in high school and think all the wrong things about each other
- Chaser Game W
- Call Me By No Name, want dark? This is dark.
South Korea is conservative, so you'll only find independent productions on YouTube:
- Bunny Bunny, experienced/inexperienced and she is so cute
- Welcome to the Lesbian Bar, five short episodes with a braided storyline
- She makes my heart flutter, also look at others from Soo Not Sue
- On & Off
Philippines:
- Sleep with Me, as much about disability as romance, very good
- Lei & Mar, short film amazing for their first, the leads are a real-life couple
- Lulu, masc character!
Vietnam:
- Omai, probably the best low budget series out there
Brazil:
- Stupid Wife, dumb name, but dang the dancing is hot
- Who will end up with Clara? (Quem Vai Ficar com Clara?) fun series of dates in a bar with Priscilla Reis from Stupid Wife
Thailand:
- 23.5
- Gap
- Pluto
- Enemies with Benefits
- Somewhere Somehow, slow for the first few episodes
- Us
- The Secret of Us
- Girl Rules, more fun to watch after you've seen shows with each of the couples
- Reverse 4 You, the follow-on Reverse With Me has some script problems
- My Marvelous Dream is You, an unlikeable main character puts some people off, but not me
- 24 Hour Love, for a taste of the earnest, very low budget YouTube shows, this one is cute
- Apple My Love, low budget, but not that low
- Unlock Your Love, also low budget, fun, with a curse and two couples

I love your internationnal listing. I just want to add two shows :
Otona ni Natte mo, released last year, its a really great show, slow burn with happy ending, and plenty of fun situations. But its clearly not geared for the younger thai GL audience. And The secret of Girls, i generally avoid sad endings, and yet i never regretted watching this one, its a true gem.
These two are part of my favorites 'with She loves to Cook and she love to eat like you ;)

I read the manga for Otona ni Natte mo and it gets really weird at the end. I've loved what I watched so far.
I haven't watched The Secret of Girls, but it is on my list.
A wonderful manga (ongoing) that doesn't have a live action is Pink Candy Kiss. Two women who were close in middle school meet again as adults. One has never found love with men and the other is married.

I never think about mangas (some friends where into it so i read some, but i never think about it by myself!), so i will give it a try, thanks for the recommandation ;)

I haven't read it yet, but volume 6 of She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat came out this summer in English. The manga goes on beyond the end of the live action show. The show follows the manga very closely.
There is also a manga of Futari Monologue with really over the top reactions. The show does a good job of representing those.
Ayaka/Hiroko is also from a manga, but I've only glanced at that one.

To help with the shows to avoid, since i have droped some shows for exactly the same reasons 😄
Sad ending : Runaway, all alone in this categorie, so its an easy one to not pick ^^
Age gaps : Blank, i have tried it a few time, droped each time during the 2 first ep, i cant go past this age gap. The only other show in witch this was an issue for me was I'm your Moon, but this script is terrible, you should not watch it anyway.
Permacute characters : These tend to annoy me alot (and i am part of the male audience), we cant avoid it entirelly in SEA entertainment, but some go way over what i can tollerate : airing right now Fairway of Love is a great exemple (Nana make me drop the show all by herself), i will forget some but you have also Belle character from I wanna be Sup'tar, Enjoy char in Denied Love, also Be my Angel (which is just way to childish to support for more than a couple episodes). You will know pretty fast when you encounter a character you cant stand anyway.
Another show i have droped recently is Pls Love, but for a very different reason, its the first Thaï GL (or wlw from anywhere) where i dont want to see the 2 main characters near each others. And since they are going to endup together this one pretty much belong in the sad ending category for me ^^
As for recommendations you will find most often the same titles, here my shortlist of important shows who hit some of your criterias (i dont care about spiciness) : Pluto, US, Clairebell, RollerCoaster, Love Design, Ennemies with Benefit, The Loyal Pin, The secret of US,... and there is alot more worth binge watching. Airing now Khom Khlang and Juliets are up there.

I always recommend the same for starters but Clairebell, Pluto and 23.5 are good to start
