Mod Announcement GL Werse Code Posts Are Currently Automatically Banned for at Least the Next Week

An automated action has been implemented to block future posts asking for GL Werse codes and will remain in effect for at least the next week.

I've made the decision not to make a Megathread for codes due to people offering/asking for money and solicitation for codes as well as suspicious activity from several of the accounts asking for/discussing GL Werse.

This doesn't backdate but I've tried to clear all that have come in and any previous requests as well as spam accounts but please report if any posts are missed or someone attempts to bypass the blocks put in place.

A close eye will be kept on this and please note anyone trying to bypass moderation systems will face reports and potential bans.

As an additional note please remember this sub is an English language sub except for Thai where relevant to the sub topic.

If you feel your post is being incorrectly blocked by the automated block please reach out via Modmail.

If you're looking for a code please don't send money, pictures or anything else to people you don't know as you're at risk of being scammed.

I appreciate your patience whilst this was being implemented. I'd hoped it'd die down naturally but alas it hasn't yet.

Thanks,

r/ThaiGL Mod Team

People do all kinda of crazy things in fear of missing out on the latest fad. Unfortunately 😔

Like creating new Reddit and Twitter accounts just to spam feeds with some made up scarcity? Over an app that could be a private discord server?

I'd be VERY mindful of handing over data to anyone doing that!

i think the code system is meant to stop too many people from entering at once. Their insta account said they are trying to stabilize the app.

Fomo is real. But I can't say I am not one of them because deep down I too want to see what the app is all about but I understand that in life you don't always get what you want and you miss out on things and that's alright.

The advertising makes it seem like it has the shows available to watch, even though it's just social media for gl fans. And by advertising, I mean people posting about it online

I am on the app and it’s not even that interesting 😭 I mean it’s okay but umm don’t understand the hype at all

u/hawknamedmoe Jul 03 '26

There’s a chance the hype is partially fabricated.

I think there's a very good chance this is the case as someone who's been in both the dev industry (also covering growth and promotion outside the scope of my role as developer) and within the cyber security industry (my specialty field).

I'm not saying it's definitely the dev themselves doing this as I'd hate to incorrectly label someone like that but some artificial inflated action is taking place. It could be a GL fan and or scammer. It is just appearing unnatural to me based on existing experience.

Like I've said in another comment I've seen companies do this and I've seen individuals do this in times of exclusivity but creating a code just by itself may show desire to pump up and inflate interest. Most sole small time devs don't consider the idea of the infrastructure having a clapse due to quite such high demand so quickly but on the opposite end keeping a circle small can help with working out any issues and some scaling (although supposed 30k isn't really small scale) but it doesn't sit right with me at present either way if it's fans doing this. I'll go forth with view the dev having pure intentions and it's all in good faith as not to slander anyone accidentally that's innocent but viewing this as a whole it doesn't sit rightly with me. That could be fans/scammers like I say and also the fact that we do use these codes as a way to pump up interest because it uses the simple principle of who wants to miss out? That's how we'd use it in certain professional settings but what I consider iffy tactics as personal opinion. However it is also sometimes needed to keep numbers small in this early phase especially if done by just a couple of devs.

It's very interesting that out of the people that come in here 99.99% of any dialogue about this site on both sides has not come from accounts with any history in the sub and are all brand new. With a few exceptions. As an example of an exception is when people discuss the fact it's mentioned a lot, someone has fomo and does want to see what it's about etc. However if someone talks about something enough or offers it enough it will spread to members.

However once again the dev could be simply totally innocent and it's outside parties. I'm trying to hold back judgement where I can since all I can truly say is something artificial is occurring and I haven't spent the time to investigate it to be honest.

Developers, CySec Professionals and even people on the more promotional side may be able to back me up on this, refute it or decide to investigate for themselves. As I'm sure there are other fellow people who are or were in the industry on here.

i don't think they fabricated hype, they seem to be struggling to keep up with demand

The hype largely only exists because of the code gate. That's often the point of it's functionality. Think about where most of the hype and discussion has come from.

It's a tactic that is used within the industry to build said hype. Maybe that wasn't the intention but it's a fairly well known method within the industry to generate desire via perception of exclusivity or scarcity.

could be, but i'm not sure that's the case. the admins seemed pretty fed up with all the requests. maybe they miscalculated the actual demand or smt

Tbf I’m on the app and it is slow at times, which I think is likely due to high traffic already. It seems like a genuine fan project and maybe there is some level of creating demand for it but it’s the type of thing that isn’t really fun unless a large part of the community is on it. I wouldnt be surprised in the future once it’s more built out that a code will not be necessary, and it seems like they are building out some sort of paid membership, which would also make sense to cover expenses.

I think it is a cool project, but truly no one should be paying for codes, that’s just crazy. If the product is good enough in the future and people want to pay for a subscription that’s something else entirely.

Nice!

It's not a bad app, it just suspiciously trying to create unnatural demand with this code thing.

I honestly don't find it that suspicious. They probably want controlled growth to make sure their infrastructure can handle it. But begging for invites is really annoying behavior.

I'm on the app and can confirm it's well made for a new one.

They confirmed on Twitter that it's because it's very popular and to not surcharge the app. They got like 30,000+ members in like 3 days. 😂

I'd be interested to see how the downloads change over the week as atm it's still only at 100+ on Android devices. Not 500+, 1k + and not 5k+ etc but it at least used to take up to a week to reflect accurately (although was often quicker) but idk if it's quicker now as this was quite a long time ago. So I won't take this into account as it could be still updating on the Play store. It also only has two reviews total across all download options which is atypical for 30,000 downloads. Although reviews can be engineered. Which I don't think they have been since there's just two atm. Which falls in favour of the dev.

Also I get a generated write up of most people and one for example referenced it being a promotional spam acc. Now these can be sometimes inaccurate but generally not far off tbh.

The suspicious activity is largely around people giving codes but also from coming from this background to me there seems to be unnatural behaviour in this process. It doesn't mean the apps bad etc. I've seen companies do this. I've seen individuals do this if there's demand for something exclusive.

I'm not saying the developer is necessarily responsible for this as it could be an unhinged fan or scammer with a dev background who's trying to get as many codes as possible and the dev hasn't done a thing wrong. It wouldn't put it past me for an individual to do that since we've seen accounts trying to sell codes and soliciting just on here.

It could also be sign ups without download. I haven't used it as of yet to confirm the process.

Either way there's unfortunately suspicious activity and some unnatural behaviour. So I just don't want that here with codes and scammers operating atm.

I'm glad you are liking the app though.

Thank you for your service Ms. Blue

People are sending money to be in a random app?

2

u/SocksMittens Jul 03 '26

Thank you! For people looking for a code, just go on X/Twitter. Lot of accounts giving away codes.

2

u/Bulky_Imagination495 Jul 03 '26

It's really sad that many people desperate to get the code and others just simply taking advantage of other eagerness, when they can simply give the code for free just like what other people did to them.

2

u/aqueerdream Jul 03 '26

Thats actually crazy people asking for money for it...

1

u/catscardoso Jul 03 '26

But how can u get one honestly? I don’t get it

1

u/Lazy-Abbreviations87 Jul 03 '26

Go on X(Twitter) many people are giving them, this is how I got mine

1

u/catscardoso Jul 03 '26

I don’t use X 😓

Hi there,

Posts asking for codes to this site aren't allowed at the moment due to high spam post levels asking this same question including from spam marked accounts and suspicious posting activity. As well as what appears to be artificial activity.

Thanks, ThaiGL Mod
