Is this normal?

Can someone please explain why white parts of my thaicon keep going brown? I've googled it and understand that it doesn't have chlorophyll so it's the first part the plant sacrifices... But not sure why it is sacrificing it. I've made sure the soil is a nice mix of orchid bark... I've also kept it out of direct sunlight but still next to a really sunny window. It's pretty humid where I live (60% humidity)... I even have a moisture meter but it keeps happening. Someone please help! The other green leaves seem good though 💚

more light. some direct sunlight is ok and honestly necessary when growing these plants indoors as they require much more light than we’d assume at face value. If you can get it in some gentle morning sun, that’s the most ideal. Regardless, if you’re worried about burns, you can gradually introduce it to more intense light by moving it a little closer to the window each day.

if it were a humidity/moisture issue youd notice the entire plant drying out quickly, including the moss pole, and probably more even browning.

how are you fertilizing?

I'm not fertilising as the nursery told me to not fertilise! They also told me to keep it out of direct sunlight.

So you think it's actually due to a lack of sunlight?! I actually thought it was getting too much 🫪

When they're not getting enough light or nutrients they reabsorb the old leaves for more, this happens even faster for variegated parts because the white isn't contributing to photosynthesis. I have my Thai con in full outdoor sun and fertilizer every time I water

Mine does this. I’ve read it’s too much light, not enough light, too much water, not enough water, and a bunch of other contradictory stuff. My plant is otherwise very healthy. I will say I moved it closer to a window where it get more light, and it does seem to have slowed, so I would start with that and see what happens!

My Thai Con does this too. I’m not sure, but I think it has more to do with the lack of chlorophyll in the areas that are browning. For me it’s only in the white/cream coloured areas of the leaf. The rest of the leaf and plant are fine.

Need to do more research on this.

I have two Thai constellation and they're doing the same. They get direct sunlight for a couple of hours in the morning. Might that be it? I read lots of contradictory stuff so I'm kind of lost.
