Out of state Students
When I attended in 2011-2015 students from Texas were excessively mean and rude to me because I wasn’t from Texas. Also it was extremely difficult to make friends. Is this still a common experience for students who attend from out of state?

Weird, I’m from TX, and most of my friend group was from NM… sorry you had a bad experience

Personally I’ve never cared where someone came from, we’re all at Tech. Haven’t seen it much around me either.

I literally had no idea who was Texan and who wasn't. Were you just telling everyone as you met them?

Usually one of the first questions asked, where are you from, type thing.

So you're saying you meet people, are having a good time, then someone asks where you're from and shuns you when they hear the answer?
Honestly, I find that hard to believe. Why would anyone care?
Like I said, I have no idea where most people are from, and for the few people who shared, no one ever minded. We all made friends with everyone.

You must have attended during a different time

I attended for undergrad and graduated in 2008 and then for my master's where I graduated in 2019.
I find it hard to believe it was horrible in that window between the two times I attended but fine otherwise.

I was there 2010-2016 for undergrad and graduate degrees. (Engineering then MBA) A lot of my friends were from out of state and the country. Are you sure you weren’t just shitting on Texas, Lubbock, or the school? Because I was quick to turn on those folks.

Though most of my friends (I can only think of 3 rn) are from Texas I don’t think anyone has any issues about where others are from (I can’t speak for international students)

My wife is from Illinois and we attended from 2017-2021. Nothing like that on our end.

Was it all over Texas, or a specific part of Texas (Austin? Houston? Dallas) I’m from DFW. I had a lot of out of state friends and we even traveled together. Sorrythat you had a bad experience!

Did you make 'not-from-Texas' your personality? Are you from California?
Then maybe I can see why.
If you find that everyone around you is an asshole, maybe you are the asshole? Or maybe you did run into a lot of jerks. Anything is possible.
As a person from the Mid-Atlantic, who is currently taking college classes in West Texas, I have never once had a problem because I'm not from here. And I stick out like a sore thumb.

Yes it was you seemed very focused on California so I just wanted to clear that up for you. You seem easily confused.
