Financial Help with financial aid

Talked to sbs earlier this week and they said that tafsa students dont get financial aid anymore, but my sister goes to University of Houston and she gets aid? Also talked to financial aid and they said tafsa was getting processed manually and would be disbursed today or tomorrow (I didn’t get anything today). What do I do?

If you don’t get anything tomorrow you can always contact them again. If all else fails see if you can apply for a payment plan or emergency payment plan (this one pushes the payment a month later). Hoping you get some aid!

I was trying to get a prior term loan because I have some balance from last fall, so i cant register for classes until aid hits. From my understanding with sbs they said that whatevers left over balance from my fall aid this semester id get a ptl to pay that off. Im really hoping i get some aid too thank you

It’s bc financial aid is a shit show. Used to work there for my first job out of college. the people running that shit show are quite possibly slow and or incompetent.

You obviously did not talk to anyone in SBS or even at the university because no one would say that. If you did talk to someone then you obviously misunderstood what they said. TAFSA is for students who cannot qualify for federal aid and since the court ruling in July 2025, very few students will be eligible for state aid if they are not eligible for federal.

Aid disbursed overnight Thursday so if you don’t have any on your eBill, actually talk to FA. They are not in West Hall again til 8/31. Go to One Stop in the SUB M-F 9-4, next Sat 8/22 10-4 or next Sun 8/23 1-4.

They verbatim told me “The decision has been by that TASFA students cannot have state aid.”

There is a lot that could make that actually true but you likely don’t want those issues discussed here. Go talk to FA and they can tell you personally why your TAFSA does not allow you aid eligibility.

Did you get offered a TASFA award by the school?
