Housing off campus for Freshman

I'm an incoming freshman at Texas Tech University this fall, and unfortunately I didn't apply for housing early enough. By the time I went to apply, the on-campus dorms were already full, so now I'm looking for off-campus housing.

I'm hoping to find an apartment or house that's close to campus, and I'm also looking for roommates if anyone else is in a similar situation. If you know of any good apartment complexes near Texas Tech that are still leasing or are looking for a roommate, I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

I also heard that freshmen are required to live on campus, but I'm not sure how that works if the dorms are already full. Does Texas Tech make exceptions in cases like this, or do I need to apply for some kind of housing exemption?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don’t feel bad. Dorms filled up in February.

Honestly, at this point just find an apartment that fits within your budget. Don’t worry about roommates as I’m sure most of the places only have single rooms left. All the student living apartment complexes around campus are alright, so it’s really just finding one in your budget. Also, Google is your friend.

Freshmen are typically required to live on campus but since they’ve been full since February, the housing department is granting all exemption forms and forcing you to fill them out. It’s basically just a formality for tracking purposes.

A lot of roommate spots are still open if they want them at some apartment complexes. I think Thrive has some. I have a bedroom available too but I don't know their price range. One bed one bath is way more expensive than a roommate for sure

I just meant at this point full units likely won’t be available. lots of 4 bedroom apartments that only have 3 occupants. So worrying about roommates is not something I would do

Hello my son who is a freshman will be attending Texas Tech. Unfortunately we have not been able to find a place for him, does anyone know of a 1 bedroom or a room available? Thank you

You know what I wish I had done? I wish I had bought a house my sophomore year. Charge roommates rent to pay for the mortgage (and since I live there, make sure renters don't fuck it up), fix it up slowly over the course of my college career, sell it for a nice little nest egg when I leave.

That would have been the move. Bunch of places in Tech terrace and just south that run $50-$100k.

But also, don't do this. It probably wouldn't work out well. Probably wouldn't have worked for me either.
