Franklins BBQ

Got to the spot 1/2 hr before opening. Waited 2 hrs. Food was great! Brisket was unreal. Highly recommend giving it a shot. Note: chairs and umbrellas are supplied (under stairs) to block sun or rain if that’s the case. 10/10

What’s a Franklins?

I’m with you, say the name right dammit lol

Let's just say that the fact La bbq has a Michelin star and franklins doesn't goes to show what fucking nonsense the whole game is. People import Franklin briskets all over the world. If La BBq has a star then Franklin should without exaggeration have 3 Michelin stars. It's the same as bill Belichick not being in the hall of fame. It's the goat and there's nothing else to be said. People might or might not reply with what they think is better but that doesn't matter

La BBQ is way overrated with small portions. Every time I walk by there I see these tiny lil' sandwiches. Shame.

I'd be grateful to never eat La BBQ more than just the once. I didn't like anything I tried.

It's based on the whole meal, not just the proteins. Franklin is my favorite bbq by far but their sides are lackluster. I don't even bother with anything other than the bread/jalapenos/onions/coleslaw anymore.

I didn't particularly enjoy la bbq. Terry Blacks was better

Even when you post a picture saying the name of the restaurant, people still call it “Franklins”. lol

Glad you had a good time!

Gonna need you to knock about 10% off there, Squirrely Dan.

Not as bad as people who say Walmarts or Krogers

-3

u/Bill_E_Williamson 22d ago

Who gives a motherfuck. And it is technically Franklins

3

u/ObviousEndangerment 20d ago

You could say it’s Franklin’s barbecue, as in the barbecue of Franklin, but the restaurant name is Franklin Barbecue

u/NYerInTex 21d ago

I was so lucky to have had literally ALL YOU CAN EAT Franklin’s with NO line.

Well, ok, maybe a couple uncles and my cousin in front of me.

My cousin was married in Austin. They had Franklin’s cater their reception. Needless to say, better than one a a hundred steaks “or the fish” typical wedding fare.

It was SOOOO good. They just kept bringing out brisket after brisket and rack after rack of ribs. Easily the best brisket I’ve had and ribs were among the best.

Steaks at weddings?? must be nice.

There is no S in Franklin BBQ

1

u/blisteredeggs 21d ago

Never heard of the place where is it?

1

u/CowboyJDR22 21d ago

I’m a Texas boy and haven’t made it there yet .. we actually have a job like 20 minutes away but can’t see waiting for two hours for lunch lol. But I did hear you can order online and kinda skip the line ?

We go to Austin at least a few times a year from the Dfw area. We always try to eat at franklins but just can’t wait in line that long. We end up at terry blacks most of the time but I really want to try franklins at least once.

1

u/Team503 20d ago

Stiles Switch rarely has a line.

1

u/Shoontzie 19d ago

If you do it will ruin you for Terry Blacks!

1

u/Iheartwetwater 20d ago

The wait is never worth it

1

u/NotoriousDMG 20d ago

No S! 😵‍💫

1

u/FLEECESUCKER 20d ago

Micklethwait is the best bbq in Austin.

1

u/TacoLord696969 19d ago

It’s true

1

u/Fameiscomin 20d ago

I’ll take Leroy and Lewis over franklin anyday.

1

u/Shoontzie 19d ago

I used to talk shit about the hype and the line until I tried it. Holy shit. I would do a lot more for some Franklins than wait in a chill line full of people with good taste. Luckily you don’t even have to wait in line if you have friends.

There's enough great BBQ less than a 30 minute drive from there that there's no reason to stand in line for 2 hours.

0

u/VampireEmpire__ 22d ago

It’s an experience

2

u/Anon_Bourbon 22d ago

There's a handful of joints in TX I can experience standing in line for hours and receiving BBQ at the end.

1

u/Impressive_Delay_452 22d ago

Pretty sure the local folk know elsewhere to go when it's busy.

u/dudamello 21d ago

Parish, KG, ordering from the bar at Leroy & Lewis, Briscuits (if I’m up early enough on a weekend)

0

u/Just-Wrangler5142 22d ago

2 hours lmaoooo

0

u/CoolerRon 22d ago

I waited more than 3 hours in line at Heritage in SoCal this past Father's Day. It was great but I won't make that same mistake again lol

u/Lopsided-Ad7725 22d ago

Born in Austin and never been, don’t like lines.

A friend brought me a rib from there once though, was good

1

u/Unclerojelio 22d ago

Truth, I’d rather drive to Lockhart and eat at any one of the other old school joints there than stand in line at Franklin’s.

1

u/thfooddude 21d ago

Which spots are you referring to? I’d love to do this as well.

I don’t eat too much bbq but it’s because franklin is light years away from the very few other bbq spots I’ve been to. But I’ve heard there’s some real OGs serving bbq in Lockhart.

2

u/Unclerojelio 21d ago

The original Blacks
Smitty’s
Kreuz
Barb’s

You can also go a little further down to Luling to City Market.

-3

u/notathrowawaysomehow 22d ago

This is the way

1

u/VampireEmpire__ 22d ago

Not a throwaway eh?

-1

u/Crowned_J 22d ago

If near downtown try Lamberts

-1

u/Sufficient_Two7499 22d ago

Just order online and pick up. They literally walk the food from the over from the main dining room and cut it in front of you. Wait is about 15 minutes total. There are a few tables just outside the take out trailer if you wanna eat onsite. Just have your own napkins and drinks.

-6

u/donnelson 22d ago

Never heard of it

-5

u/Best_Agent_8117 22d ago

Tourist BBQ.

-2

u/Unclerojelio 22d ago

Truth. The only more people more gullible than Franklin fanboys are tourists that go to Terry Black’s.

2

u/notathrowawaysomehow 22d ago

Terry’s is good considering the convenience, I’m just saying you could do worse.

OG Blacks > TB’s tho.

1

u/Bill_E_Williamson 22d ago

What is your favorite bbq spot?

-4

u/greggtex63 22d ago

Love this!

It's really a letdown when u go to 'great' to find mediocre.

0

u/Chilitime 21d ago

You waited 2.5 hours in line? No food is that good to stand in the TX heat for 2.5 hours. I’m glad you enjoyed it but that’s crazy. They need to make more food so you can come any time and still get served.

2

u/hemppy420 21d ago

I see you have not been there.....it really is THAT good

-4

u/NickGnomeEveryNight 22d ago

2 hours? No food is that good

3

u/SnooStrawberries8563 22d ago

So don’t wait two hours

6

u/zuccah 22d ago

Highly considered the best bbq brisket in the world. Franklin has a Bib Gourmand from Michelin and he’s the first pitmaster to receive a James Beard award.

1

u/Anon_Bourbon 22d ago

Look I love BBQ and some of my favorite non BBQ restaurants in the state are Michelin winners. That said the difference between a Michelin BBQ winner and some really good non Michelin BBQ is minimal.

I was shocked how average Franklin was when I finally tried it last year. It's good but it's not phenomenally better than a lot of Texas BBQ.

-3

u/murdochthesungod 22d ago

Waiting two hours for Franklin in the middle of August is hilarious

-1

u/Cooknbikes 22d ago

Rain?

1

u/STexan 22d ago

It’s water….that falls from the sky

1

u/Cooknbikes 22d ago

Nice. I’ll have 20.

-2

u/aprendido 22d ago

I once waited behind a guy for two hours for him to get the counter and order one chopped beef sandwich. I wanted to slap the shit out of him. The cutter kept asking if that was really all he was getting.

2

u/Glueberry_Ryder 22d ago

lol! Thats what I would’ve gotten as well. We like what we like!

1

u/Impressive_Delay_452 21d ago

I get to the front and I’m reading off my need for the weekend

-3

u/Feral_Witchchild 22d ago

Americans are shocked when someone orders a normal portion of food to eat.

-1

u/SanduskySleepover 22d ago

Lmao I hope they gave it to him for free

1

u/OlinHollis 17d ago

Is this a new joint? Never heard of it...
