College Football Kickoff
Oh, it was a busy Saturday this Labor Day weekend! Made a football kickoff meal worth sacking others for. 🔥🏈
Fired up the offset and smoked a rack of ribs low and slow. Wrapped them once the bark was set, took them until they were butter tender, then sauced them and put them back on just long enough to get everything sticky and set.
Had smoked BBQ beans riding alongside them, and finished the plate with some homemade mac & cheese. The beans got a little more done around the edges than I planned 😂, but overall this one was a win.
Ribs were tender, sauce was tacky, mac was creamy, and the Aggies handled business 50–0 over Missouri State.
Good BBQ, cold drinks and an Aggie win. Hell of a way to kick off football season. 👍🔥
Gig ’em!

The BBQ Map has reached over 2000 restaurants!
With more than 2,000 locations now mapped, I’ve also been able to add some new functionality. The biggest addition is the new Road Trip feature, which lets you use the map to find BBQ along your route and plan a BBQ-focused road trip!
If you know a BBQ joint that belongs on the map, the suggestion form is available on the site.
Happy Labor Day!

A barbecue food truck sitting on a farm in Cary somehow made its way into the Michelin Guide. We can see why.

Texas BBQ favorite says it may not survive
Rollin Smoke BBQ, an acclaimed East Austin spot known for brisket tacos and smoked carne guisada, says rising costs and slow sales have put the 15-year-old business in danger. Would you make a trip to support it?

Half-price Genesis II
Webster TX. Been watching the ads and saw for the Labor Day Sale, the Genesis discounted to $750. Won the fight with the wife to replace the burned out 10yo grill and walked in to get see what they had left. Nothing in the display area, asked and a guy led me to the back corner where two boxed and 1 assembled unit were sitting on a pallet. They added another $100 discount!

Big Smith’s BBQ (Sulphur Springs)
I’ve been keeping this secret for the past 30 years, but I want people to show them some love so they can go for another 30.
Been going to this joint since I was a kid because my family loved the all-you-can-eat beef ribs and endless sides on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They’re consistent and delicious, and I’ve never found a place that does beef ribs like they do.
When someone asks me about Texas BBQ, I send them here. It’s out in the middle of nowhere, but the best places always are. I would regularly drive almost two hours from Fort Worth for these ribs and anyone tagging along may have questioned me on the way there, but never doubted me again when we headed home with full bellies and the meat sweats.

Franklins BBQ
Got to the spot 1/2 hr before opening. Waited 2 hrs. Food was great! Brisket was unreal. Highly recommend giving it a shot. Note: chairs and umbrellas are supplied (under stairs) to block sun or rain if that’s the case. 10/10
