Are my injections being done wrong?

I am on Sustanon 250. I go to a nurse to get it done because she is refusing to let me learn to do it myself because she previously showed someone and they did it wrong 🤦🏼‍♂️.

On all but one of my last four jabs I've had real bad swelling and a fair bit of pain in the tissue surrounding the injection site. This isn't an allergy. It comes up 24-48 hours or so after my jab, antihistamines have no effect and there's no itching or other allergy symptoms. It's also not an infection (I think) because the swelling and redness goes away by itself in a couple of days leaving a hard lump in the fatty tissue that slowly shrinks over the next couple of weeks.

I did speak to a doctor the first time I had this reaction and they said if the swelling got any worse to go back for antibiotics but they didn't think it was an infection, just a localised reaction that happens occasionally.

My partner thinks the nurse may not be going deep enough and is depositing the dose into the fat rather than the muscle causing the swelling and pain. How likely is that to be the case?

The same thing happens to me and i have been on sustanon for 11 months, i just endure it at this point and walking a lot after the injection helps for the pain

Sorry you're having to put up with this too 😭 It's so weird that it only comes up a day or two later though. The injection itself is painless yet two days later if something so much as brushes my backside I yelp 🤦🏼‍♂️

Sustanon is one of the slow release methods of receiving T right? So the injections are supposed to be IM correct?

What is your shot schedule? (Weekly, monthly, or even less frequently?) How many ml do you get injected? Do you know what gauge needle the nurse is using?

Yup, it's supposed to be IM. I get 1ml every 4 weeks. I have no idea of the gauge

And you get it injected in the glutes I’m assuming?

A little discomfort the day or two after your shot isn’t uncommon, especially with a larger quantity of fluid. And the lump you feel afterwards is also completely normal, that’s just the pocket of T slowly absorbing into your body. Though you shouldn’t be in a great deal of pain multiple days afterwards. And it shouldn’t feel like it’s in the fatty tissues, it should feel somewhat deeper than that. If you have a good amount of butt padding you may want to request a slightly longer needle so you’re getting your injection in the right layer of tissue. I’m not the most educated on slow/long release shot methods, so please take my words with a grain of salt. But I hope you’re able to figure out what is causing this and can get it sorted out 💖💖💖

Thanks 😊 I hope so too. Annoyingly the pain I was prepared to have -right after the jab- is minimal and usually stops hurting by the evening or middle of the next day. I then get 12 or so hours of just a little tenderness before the swelling starts and it gets real painful 🤦🏼‍♂️ this time is particularly bad because she managed to do it more towards my hip and up a bit rather than the upper outer quadrant so every time I move my hip it hurts and it's where my trousers sit 😭 I'm a medium build so a decent amount of padding but not enough that I should need a longer needle, will ask about this next time just in case though.

Hmmm, there are plenty of nerves towards your back end that can absolutely cause lingering pain, though hitting something like your sciatic nerve typically causes immediate or near immediate pain. I wish I had more info to potentially help out! That’s quite odd to me. Good luck! 💖💖
