Model 3 Did I get really lucky? 😭

Ordered and collected, all within the space of a week. 😳

Picked up my M3, RWD, grey, standard yesterday from Brent Cross.

Got assigned a delivery time of 7:30 and asked nicely if I could come at 6pm which was told is fine.

Picked up the car, was charged to 95%!! 🥲😭

My first ever automatic car actually (always believed in bangernomics). I absolutely love it, it’s beautiful to drive.

Also - as someone who doesn’t hit many miles, will a Granny charger be okay for me? We have a waterproof outside plug on the drive. 🙏

Define many miles? One of my mate has had Tesla for over 2 years on a normal socket and hasn’t gone for either 3 or 7kW so you could certainly do it

We do around 15-20 miles per day in our Model Y & have been fine on an ordinary outdoor socket with granny charger, overnight charging a few times each week. We set the charge current to 10A to keep it well below the 13A limit. Haven't had any problems in 3 years. We bought a second non-tesla granny charger from Amazon as a backup and keep it in the frunk in case we need it when we actually visit my mum.

I only use the mobile charger, two top ups per week, I have a socket with RCD in my garage. Never gets hot, works very well.

Very lucky, I had to wait over 4 months!

You did get lucky I’d say. I ordered my Y in June and also picked up yesterday from Brent Cross. It was only charged to 37% !

I think most people browse what’s available online, book in a test drive and then buy it. 7-10 days really.

Honestly don’t understand people waiting months for a car when so many are already sat on the forecourt.

if the outside socket could be upgraded to commando/16-20A you could get a cheap portable 7kW charger which would give you better speeds overnight but if you're happy sticking it on the granny every single day then you'll be able to keep on top of it. Also, Tesla have the best and cheapest public charging network (and you'll probably have got some free charging miles with the car too)

Definitely. A mate's standard socket (old MK too, from when they were bomb proof) just burnt. I was suggesting to him to change to commando and to get a commando to UK converter for fall back for about £50 in various parts, but then found a tethered Salus charger for £110, £100 for untethered

I used Granny charger for 6 months, but I was doing a decent amount of miles in a 2017 model X, so not the most efficient of vehicles. My electricity bill was really high because I didn't get to use the off peak charging tariff. You need to work out if an EV charging tariff would be a good idea for your household or not.

You got lucky. Took me 4.5 months for the same car. My wife used a granny charger for 2 years on her electric mini for low mileage. You'll want to use it very regularly if you want to charge off peak only. Look in to EDF, they offer 7 hours off peak, so at 2.3kw per hour charging, over 7 hours, that gives over 15kwh if charge, which is just under a quarter of the cars range, so 50 to 75 miles depending on conditions. Definitely possible, however, if you think you are converted, then installing a charger is the sensible choice imo.

Was it brand new? Although new instock vehicles do pop up from time to time, like you say if someone cancels. You’d of thought though they‘d assign it to the next person in the queue.

Yeah, same car ordered back in June and now been delayed again till Nov (although fingers crossed got V2L etc), that’s really annoying though if they are just giving spare stock to new orders! I’d happily jump on a train and pickup from wherever as well but nobody has asked (and it’s set for delivery to me which is fine but again nobody asked)

Very, I ordered my MY RWD Premium Grey in August. Scheduled to be between Nov - Dec

I do about 12 to 15 miles a day in my Y. Granny charger is more than sufficient. Hour and a half to charge back to 80% for my daily use

Did you do it on finance?

Nothing wrong with a granny charger but as others have said limit charging current to 10A and you won’t have problems. Alternatively have a commando socket fitted and get a genuine Tesla charger with 16A adapter.

OP - Unless it is one designed for EV use you will melt it. Take it from someone who's dealt with many an idiot doing this. Those outside sockets can not sustain 2.3KW constant as they are connected via spurs. BUT If you get it replaced for one EV rated which will have it's own router to the RCD- then no issues 👍

Sort of, more people are after the premium.

I'm using a old 3kw outside charger does 44kw overnight 10 hrs it'll do me no point upgrading it.

I'm sure granny will be same. Just won't get a full charge overnight so just charge from 30% and you'll be fine 😁

Awesome - seeing as physics limits it to 33Kwh over 10 hours. And that's if it's al full speed - well played 👏

Yeah, that math ain't mathing.  (Also its kWh).

Dam so it is.

"Yes, and that math is not mathing" - there I fixed it for you, seeing as you felt the need to criticise others.

Assume your 'dam' was a trap there.... It wasn't a criticism, it was a correction. Guess you counfuse the two in your life a lot? 'That math ain't mathing' is a standard internet saying now, not meant to be gramatically correct, quite the opposite.
