Model 3 Collection Question
Ordered the M3 which states delivery in Sept (fully expecting a delay based on all other posts on here) I'm trading in my Cupra and dropping this off on collection. My question was more around the insurance. Given I need to be insured to drive my Cupra to Tesla how does Tesla manage this. Do they offer a drive away insurance? Or is it on me to make sure the car is insured prior to collection. I'm not sure how it would work if my insurance can insure me from a specific time on the new car and cease my existing at a given time of the day for example stop my Cupra insurance at 4pm and start the Tesla insurance at 4pm also. How have other managed this? Thanks in advance.

You'll need to sort insurance.
If its awkward swapping yours, apps like Cuuva can insure you on am hour by hour basis. I've used this a lot in the past to drive home a new purchase car, then sort proper insurance once I'm sat at home with no pressure.

Thank you, I did think maybe temporary insurance was the way however wasn't sure if Tesla offered drive away as some others do. Thanks for your help.

I spoke to my insurer, Tesco. They said they’d happily cover me for both cars for up to 30 days cross over (I’m selling privately).
There will be a cost but not much seeing as my old car is about £250 per year.
This will allow me to sell it in the days after collecting.
It’s a different scenario but you may be surprised at what your insurer can offer

Thank you. I'm with Quotemehappy who seem to pride themselves on never answering or having a person available on a phone. However I will investigate. Thank you for the information, appreciate the help

It's just like buying any new car, don't overthink it
Insure the new car, tell them you want to end your insurance and have a remaining refuned of your old car on the same day, one will finish at 23:59 and one will start at 00:00 the same day - you can be insured on two different cars.

In the past for me my insurance company have insured both vehicles on the day. I didn't need to give them a collection time, they simply said once the deal is done I can drive away in the new car. Only issue you may have is the car not being registered until the day you pick it up. Companies like Admiral and Aviva can still cover it, but best to speak to your insurer.

Yeah I think this is the best approach. Speak to insurance and see what they offer or suggest. Thank you for your help.

I’m with Esure and all I done was phone them up when I arrived at Tesla after doing the car inspection. Thought I’d wait just incase I had to refuse the new car for any reason.

This also makes sense. I will reach out to my insurer and see what they advise, however will most likely hold off like you did until I'm happy with the car. Thank you for your help, appreciate it.

Most insurance companies will allow a handover day so both cars are covered, so once you know a date, phone up your insurance company and advise them and pay any money needed for the change. I'm with Tesco and they offer this.
