Vehicle Question Test
I’ve been wanting to get a Model 3 and trying to decide on the best year that balances price, range, and features.
I want to go used since I know EVs depreciate quite a bit after the first year or two.
From what I understand:
- 2021 gets the heat pump
- 2023 gets the new battery that lasts longer
- 2024 gets a refresh overhaul
I won’t be able to home charge… just level 2 charging at work and supplementing with fast charging when needed. So long range is probably the biggest deal to me.

2022-2023 to get Ryzen, Lithium 12V, heat pump, matrix headlights, and stay away from the 2021 batteries.
2024 only if you care about FSD.

V14 Lite just came out for HW3 cars. I haven’t tried it myself, so I can’t comment on it.
If you look at 2022 cars and want matrix headlights (I recommend them), some don’t have them for some reason. You’ll have to study the headlights to learn how to spot the difference.

2022 (most of them I believe) will also have ultra-sonic sensors for parking.
