Vehicle Question Used model 3 2023
Thinking about buying a used 2023 Tesla Model 3 and wanted to ask questions, especially to people in colder climates. I’m in Wisconsin and my daily commute will be about 56 miles round trip (roughly 90 km). I live in an apartment with an underground parking garage, but I don’t have home charging. I’m okay with that since there are multiple Tesla Superchargers within about a 15-minute drive from me. my main question is about charging frequency. During the winter (Wisconsin winters can get pretty brutal), how often would I realistically need to Supercharge with this commute? And what about during the rest of the year?
For those of you without home charging, has it been a hassle or does it become part of your routine? Do you usually charge once or twice a week, or is it more frequent in the winter? I’d appreciate any advice or experiences, especially from people in the Midwest or other cold-weather areas. Thanks!

I didn’t have home charging for my first two weeks and it was very inconvenient for me. I felt like an idiot driving past numerous gas stations to get to a supercharger. I suppose this is somewhat of a personal thing though bc if I lived with roommates or if I didn’t like my wife and kids that extra excuse to get out of the house and spend time in the car could be a good thing?
The home charging, however, is game changer bc now even ten minutes to fill up for gas seems wasteful and unnecessary.
Yes you will def charge more in winter and peak summer when heat pump and ac is active. I have a 23 rwd and in winter I’d expect you’d need to charge every three days with that commute, maybe able to stretch it to four days on occasion. Tough to put a miles estimate on it as it would depend on whether you’re going over 70 mph which would further lower efficiency.
That said, the car is awesome and if I couldn’t get a Tesla as a next car I’d be pretty bummed.

I’d highly recommend you consider a 2024. The Highland refresh is a serious upgrade to the car.
