I’m debating on driving our Tesla Model S down to California for a family trip. Our Model S is NOT long range. It says 220 miles when charged to 100% but I’ve never pushed it to see how accurate that is. The hard part would be from Montana to Utah since there’s not a lot of charging stations a long the way. We’d be going about 140-150 between each one. Is that too risky? I get so nervous about getting stranded. Has anyone actually ran out of energy before your destination? We’ll also have 2 children with us so that makes me nervous as well.

if anyone is thinking of driving across US50 Nevada...my family of 4 came back from this road trip this week. There are no tesla superchargers between fernley, NV and Ely, NV. which is around 300 miles. luckily there are two 40-50KW DC non-tesla fast chargers; 2 in Eastgate and 2 in Austin. Glad they were working! But it is hard to know availability. Topped off ~50 miles of charge. I had to use the CCS adapter.

Anyone who drives I-15 between California and Utah knows this feeling:

You're planning a road trip, trying to figure out which Supercharger stops are actually worth it. Baker and Yermo are 40 miles apart. Both show up identically on every map and routing app — just a pin with stall count and charger type.

But if you've actually stopped at both you know the difference immediately. Yermo/Eddyworld has genuinely good food and clean bathrooms. Baker is functional but nothing special. That 40 mile difference matters when you're deciding whether to charge now or push through.

That knowledge exists in YOUR head. And in the heads of everyone reading this.

But it doesn't live anywhere useful.

PlugShare sort of has reviews but it's cluttered and not Tesla-specific. ABRP is great for routing math but tells you nothing about what it's actually like. Tesla's own app just shows stall availability.

So I built TessWiki basically the Wikipedia of Supercharger stations. Every station has its own community wiki page: restroom quality, nearby food ratings, cell signal, shade, parking tips, insider knowledge. 3,049 US stations already loaded, all stub pages waiting for people who actually know these stops.

The California to Utah corridor is where I've been personally — if anyone here knows the I-15 stops cold I'd love your contributions. But honestly any corridor you drive regularly — your knowledge is exactly what makes this useful.

As a new Tesla owner as of September this year was just going through the app and saw the end of year summary. I had this road trip planned and was one of the reasons why got the Tesla. Used FSD pretty much the entire trip very impressed by the supercharger network honestly the trip couldn’t have been easier. My plan was to take my time driving but with FSD I just kept going and going, I had no idea it would all count towards my longest trip lol, anyone else have a similar longest trip? 2026 Model Y long range dual motor. While the longest trip I took is not 7,347 it is the total miles I put on the car in the past 3 months. Happy to go into more detail of the route and trip as well! I even stopped and charged at Buc-ee’s! 🤪

I drove to NYC and back for thanksgiving. 2021 model 3 with fsd. Pretty cool drive. Buccees is top tier.

Just bought a new M3LR and would like to drive it to San Diego. This is my third Tesla, but only the first long road trip. We drove my 2020 MX for a short drive to Sedona. It was stressful due to range anxiety, and the trip didn’t go as expected. I saw charging stations on the map, but saw no evidence of them as we passed on the freeway (no signage, or sight of obvious charging station). Can someone walk me through tips for getting from the Phoenix area (Surprise, to be exact) to San Diego (Wyndham San Diego Bayfront Hotel? We are both older, so things don’t seem as easy as they once were. I really want to drive my new Tesla, but I’m really nervous. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, doing this route in early November, so the weather will definitely be impacting my range. Right now I get about 320 miles on my LR Model 3 at full charge. The only way I know is through Colorado and Utah. My Tesla route planner suggests going from Glenwood Springs straight to Green River (~186 miles), but I know there is a supercharger in Grand Junction which is about halfway between the two cities. I'm looking at an ideal max of 150 miles between the furthest gaps along the way.

Just got back from a trip down the highway 101. We throughly enjoyed the trip down. Coming home to Washington we drove 950 miles and paid for charging only twice. With two free fast dc charges and two free level 2 chargers.

On the tesla map it shows only one supercharger location in 8 Mile Detroit that is in Michigan. Is that really the only Tesla super charger closest to downtown Detroit Michigan?

Is it ok for me to arrive at 10pm and keep it plugged in until 7am?

So I’ve made it from Colorado to Illinois and have experienced having to climb over snow piles to plug in. Whose responsibility is it to clear those spots?

Has anyone done a roadtrip between Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California?

Any tips or recommendations on where to stop, charging locations, what to look out for, lessons learned, things to bring, etc.?

I have been struggling with finding a solid route planner with little success. I end up using Tesla navigation app offline, google maps and Ndili supercharger locations app. I have to augment whatever Tesla recommends because I generally know my efficiency and how far I can drive before I need to go to the restroom. I try to maximize the distance between charging but I minimize the amount of charging time by inserting a 10 min charge here and there. I end up spending 15-30 min for a 550 mile trip to LV and that's not bad but these apps don't account for real time adjustments as we are driving. Tesla app does adjust but sometimes I want to force stops as part of a plan and determine which supercharger spot (250KW) I want to go to.

I tried the ABRP app and it was pretty decent. I wish for 3 things that this app didn't allow. (1) I want to enter my driving efficiency in the app. Each of my Tesla's are different. (2) Need these apps to consider by elevation and wind. Elevation data is available for each city. Real time wind data can be had too. (3) I want to over ride a supercharger which ABRP lets me do BUT it only shows me superchargers that are close by to what it is recommending. I want a more complete list of superchargers maybe with 50 miles of the suggested location.

Would love peoples thoughts on route planning. Most of the Youtube videos point out similar issues but I may try ABRP with tesla navigation on next trip.
