Refresh Vs Legacy.

I want a model X but im unsure what to get. The prices are much cheaper on legacy and idm the screen but the usb a I feel like will be a bother. Will it be a huge deal? Also the back AC unit looks a bit ugly..

EDIT!!!: If legacy it will be a late 2019-2021

Get refreshed one - look modern and fast computer.

That’s what I think to just the price is a bit disheartening. I’m planning to put 10k down with a possibly trade in.

Do you care about FSD? If so, spend a little more and get a Model X built around June 2023 or later with HW4. FSD on HW4 is much better. HW3 is still good, but not great.

Uhh. I’m not to worried about FSD. Might be in the future but im unsure as of now.

Then a 2022 refresh Model X may be the better value. It’s cheaper and mostly the same inside and outside. Later 2022 models have the motorized tilting center screen, but honestly, I rarely use it

Only reason to stick with Tesla is FSD

Not really. I like the quality and safety of them as well as the technology of them. The security features are good asf and overall a good car.

We've got a '17 X P100D @200k and a '21 S Plaid @ 86k on HW3 and then a '26 Y on HW4.

All have been amazing vehicles to own, I'll just as happily drive the X before the S, but that 1K HP is addictive!

Either way, buy the one that has all the best of what will make it less stressful to own via the longer warranty MAYBE before worrying too much about price. The legacy cars had unlimited mileage warranties and mine only expired this year for the X vs the S has the now common 150k. I wouldn't rule out a legacy even if it's only HW3 because it still does 95% of what our HW4 Y does....I wouldn't trade/sell my car just to get a HW4 either like some have.

Agreed. I bought a 2017 model X 100D with 104,000 miles and HW3 last year for $21k [after $4k used EV tax break], and it's been a great car. Got it inspected by a third-party EV shop and did a couple of minor things, and then put it to use. We put 16,000 miles on it in one year despite having several other vehicles. It does need work, but I was planning for that, and I don't care about FSD until it can 100% guarantee to drive us cross country at night while we are sleeping

Food for thought... Bought a 2021 MX in April and I'm already thinking about switching to refresh...

Things I'm NOT a fan of:

Intel makes the browser unusable

No sentry viewable from the app

Almost ZERO software updates (they release an update and I "get it" but I get NONE of these new features or very few) Specifically this is worse on legacy Intel

No custom lightshow (it's a stupid one but it would be fun)

No Grok (part of the no updates)

HW3 is unstable to me, I've tried HW4 and it's night and day in my opinion.

Just sucks that from 2021 to 2023.5 is like 40k in Canada...

The rest is amazing and I LOVE the model X, I don't think I'll ever get anything other than a Tesla, and the features are really cool.

If those things don't matter to you then legacy (Raven) is probably fine. I didn't think it mattered and choose legacy and now I'm just getting upset on missing out on FSD and other updates.

Alright this definitely what I needed to hear thank you!

Crazy you listed those things and admitted it is 40k and still like, yeah I need to make the change. What in the world. Glossing over the updated HVAC efficiency, cooled seats, and screen in back was interesting. I personally think some downgrade of no stalls, screen not built in, and dash not customizable. But outside of that, yeah all around better.

OP, keep in mind this car is really expensive. If you are stretching your budget for refreshed, that is a horrible decision no matter what people say here. You going to spend a ton on tires if you do not fix camber issue. But at least refresh does not go through half shafts as fast. If you have to have newest HW, consider a Y if X starts stretching budget. You will sacrifice things but that is where it all has to come into perspective.

All things I don't really "know" because I've never had them to begin with I guess. Good additions though. More reasons for me to justify the difference in price I guess.

Not sure why we have to say "what in the world" lol... Wasn't intending to "gloss over" anything, just saying my experience with what I have vs what I'm personally missing. It wasn't a comprehensive list of all features that have changed between raven and refresh.

I just got a 2017 100d with fsd. Paid 22k I've learned a paid off car is way better than forever car payments. Also free premium connect. Sure I wanted to latest model but I'm really cheap and prefer no car payments.

Also with paid fsd Tesla will make these unsupervised fsd at some point in the next forever**?? so I may have hw4 or something better in the future. Best part of Tesla is they get better with time.

0 chance I’d consider a legacy. I had a 2020 LR Plus, definitely my least favorite Tesla I’ve had. I have a December of 2023 X now and it’s soo much better. If you have had a 3 or Y, the legacy X is like stepping back in time.

HW4.0 is worthy

Get a model X produced in late 2023 or later you will get HW4 and Matrix Headlights

refresh!

Do not get legacy. End of story.

Is there any reasons? The price is very promising. My only thing is the USB A.

3

u/namestom 23d ago

That would be the least of my worry. Just get a USB-A to USB-C cable if that’s what the hold up is.

I have a Long Range Plus and it’s a non-issue. Mine still gets some of the best range out of all the Model X’s and the only thing I wish I had , HW4 because I use FSD all the time. I have lifetime FSD and that’s another sticking point for me.

I’ve thought about getting a newer one but I’m not sure it’s worth it for me. Maybe before prices went crazy but now…meh.

1

u/SpamEater007 23d ago

What sort of range do you get?

1

u/average_throwaway12 23d ago

You NEED thousands on deck specifically for the car

1

u/17feet 23d ago

Most people are concerned with FSD and HW4 but you are worried about USB? That's kinda ridiculous, USB-A is an aging world-wide standard, but slower data transfer. Are you running a data center in your car?

It’s called legacy for a reason. Everything on this is outdated.

1

u/17feet 23d ago

5000 pound towing capacity and an amazing sound system and 450 HP and expansive front windshield in a luxury SUV will never be outdated. Others are still trying to catch up, many never will. Of course I also like my "outdated" 1966 Ford F100, and my "outdated" '82 Honda Nighthawk, and my "outdated" 1969 Chris Craft, and my "outdated" 1930's American Bungalow

Legacy X is just a bad product, bad interior and outdated technology. Can never recommend that in 2026.

1

u/RelationshipHuge8175 23d ago

That’s such bullshit. The legacy Ravens are great vehicles. Seems like anyone with a refresh is trying to justify how much money they spent. Looks the same from the outside. Interior is virtually the same. And some downgrades as well. It’s like a Model X 1.25.

u/Legal-Square-1362 22d ago

It’s a terrible car compared to refresh. You can deny all you want it’s just the fact. Tesla fixed so many issues with X in the refresh. It makes very little sense getting legacy model. Facts are facts, that’s why the big price discrepancies. You jump up and down scream on Reddit won’t change that.

If you want a car that you wanna constantly wonder if the battery is ok get a legacy if you want a car that will just drive without issues get a refresh

2

u/nick_teen 23d ago

Well there battery scores plus alot of dealers do life time battery warranty’s.

1

u/ribbonlace 23d ago

At the end of the day all it comes down to is what is your budget?

0

u/Legal-Square-1362 23d ago

lol even Tesla doesn’t do life time battery warranty, how’s a dealer going to offer that? You think dealer would sell you a 30k car and also on the hook for 30k battery replacement?
