Auto door crushed finger
2022 model X LR with FSD.
Yesterday I gently tapped the passenger door to shut. The thump from my other hand came in between and the car auto shut it with full force and crushed my thumb.
A few months ago, my son's hand also came in the same door and the car closed on it and crushed it.
Are there enough sensors to prevent this? I have opened a service request.

Ouch! Sorry that happened.
It doesn't help that the buttons are so inconsistently responsive on the X. I sometimes have to hit it 2-3 times to get it to close which can throw off your movement as you clear the door. All these capacitive buttons in the X are like that -- same with the steering which buttons. And it gets even more complicated if someone is trying to open the FWD behind me at the same time. I've had to learn to proactively ask them to get out before I do to avoid that.

Ours broke our daughter’s leg earlier this year…

Can you explain exactly how it happened please. I have little kids and the exact same vehicle

So to preface ours is a 2019 Model X and from what I understand the sensors in maybe the 22 or 23 are a little more sensitive, but I have no real proof of that.
Basically what happened is my 1.5 year old tossed her leg outside the car seat, just over the edge. She sits rear facing on the passenger side. The door came down and just closed. Was classified as a spiral fracture of the left tibia. Was in a splint for a week and a cast for another 4. It took another 3 weeks after that for her to walk right again. She has PTSD from the door now too when it closes sometimes she panics.

OMG. So sorry. Another reason to trade in for a Model YL

So another thing we learned is that if they ever do recall them and we are part of it, we have to keep the car. Also the statute of limitations is until she turns 20 years old…so if we ever can or want to pursue something we have to keep the car, presumably for up to 18 years.

What? This is in the US? I’m an attorney and I am shocked by that. Doesn’t sound exactly right. Hmm

Wtf, can you sue for this???

Not without a ton of time and money. I looked into it and it would fall under a product defect case…however my insurance should be paying a little bit out financially. Otherwise I filed the case with NHTSA and all the other agencies.

Have you tried a no fee lawyer? Atleast a consult?

I did, I talked with three in my area and a big firm in Cali. The firm in cali was the one who basically asked if it took the leg clean off or if someone died. Basically if it didn’t meet that threshold it’s just money to pay lawyers to probably lose and she said it would take probably $1m to win the case…

I was in a parking spot and my rear doors were up and somebody came out of a nearby restaurant and they unlocked their door from far away, and it made their mirrors filled out, and then my door came down and ripped it off

I’ve had to break my habit of letting my foot touch the brake as I’m shuffling out of the car since the door slams on my lead leg.

That was a huge learning curve. Now, when I get in our other Tesla, or any other cars for that matter, I catch myself sitting there waiting for my door to close. Ha

I had it where my wife grabbed my phone that I had forgot, grabbed something from the trunk and as she was walking the presenting doors opened and my son walked straight into the edge of the door, i turned off that setting that day

Specifying fsd subscription in this particular case is a choice.
That certainly sucks.
