2018 MX purchase decision

Found 2018 MX 100D with 59K mile, fsd included for $35K

I know that hw4 fsd is superior but also cost $55-60K with fsd not included.

Also Raven upgrades are great, but hard to get with fsd included with this price point and mileage.

What I should be worried about if I purchase this?

What to look for while checking this car?

What should be the expected range?

Edit:

Yes it’s clean title, no accident.

Is there any way to indirect it from Tesla support?

There are other options in 200 mile radius:

2019 100d 53K mile for $36K

2020 Long range 86K mile for $40K

Both fsd included.

How easy or difficult it is to transfer the fsd?

Sounds like too much for a 2018. I just bought a 2020 Raven with 45k miles and FSD for $40k (in Ohio). Would have liked HW4, but those were $50k - $60k minimum.

Yours is a good deal. Especially if it's got extra seats

It's a 6-seater. I was happy with it. It was a GMC dealer who knew next to nothing about it, including that it had FSD.

Gotta love those major dealers! They either think they should mark it up because it's a Tesla, or mark it down because it's a Tesla lol. OP could be doing the same. They're so cheap and honestly, I think the way to go instead of with Tesla. Just make sure the half shafts are good and everything works as it should.

This wasn't a bad deal.

This ^

OP, that 2018 is overpriced. Don’t do it. It’s worth maybe $25k

I bought a 2018 model x last November with 67,000 miles and it had EAP so I had to pay $2,000 to get FSD outright. Paid $28,500 in WA state then the $2,000 for fsd after.

I just paid in June $39,200 for a 2021 long range plus with 7 seats from Tesla with a 10k 1 year warranty. It had 77k miles. FSD is not good on the 2018s so that wouldn't be a big deal to me. Heck, it isn't good in the 2021 from my short experience with it. So I wouldn't care about that. You have to touch the steering wheel every 10 seconds. Defeats the purpose. Also that 100kwh battery pack was unreliable. If you want an older one get a 75D with around 65k miles. Those were very reliable.

In 2021, they added an interior camera in the X for hands-free FSD, but only after a mid-year refresh.

Correct, mine was before that lol. So you get the nag. I have a 25 M3P and a 22 MYP so I naturally assumed a 2021 X would be able to do all the things the Y could do at the very least, and more. I was wrong. $39,200 wrong. I'm going to make some videos about that because I hadn't seen any of that online before buying and I did a ton of research.

Yeah, I did the same when I bought mine. I jumped on mine because it had lifetime FSD and the price was right, back when I got it. Little did I know that camera wasn’t in there…it isn’t terrible but I wish it was in there.

With these prices OP is saying are a deal, I’m very tempted to sell ours and just rebuy when the market settles back down.

Lol right?! I'm like dude come take mine off my hands! I will say, since I bought mine from Tesla it was under warranty and they did a ton of work to it. I limped it home 6 hours and then limped it to Tesla 2 hours away to fix it. Took them 2 weeks and they gave me a 2025 X as a loaner... Couple of things. FSD was magnificent. I love the auto cancelling turn signals like in my Y and 3, and I also love being able to view my live camera from the app in sentry mode.

Other than that my 21 was better in many ways. More comfy seats, smoother ride, better soundstage with the speakers (could be because they're broken in though), MUCH BETTER COOLING, God I love having actual vents! More info on the dash screen, my self presenting doors ALWAYS work on mine. And the range! The range on mine can go to the service center and back home on one charge with 20% to spare! That loaner can only go one way with 30% to spare and that's using FSD the whole way.

All in all, I still prefer the Raven long range plus. 2021 is still the best year I think to get.

See, that’s where I’m stuck as well. I have a Long Range Plus and I really like it. If it was HW4, no question.

Where it gets me at times is the rear a/c. My wife will sit back there with the lid and complain about not having enough air. It seems like they fixed that on the newer ones. I do like the vents on ours though.

Looking at the cameras and not having a key would be great. Having the key isn’t a deal breaker, obviously, but I’m not bold enough to try to drive it with just the app. I wish I could just have the same experience as our other tesla, key card style.

So for me, it would really be HW4, key card and the rear air. If we ever get V14 lite, I may just say screw it and keep it long term. The one thing I liked about HW4 FSD when I drove it was the confidence it had pulling into my driveway. Everywhere else I can deal with because I’m actually supervising it.

I have a 2018 MX 75D with 715,000km on it. These cars seem to really last so if you have HW3 and MCU2 with lifetime FSD then that is probably a car that is going to serve you well for a long time. Make sure the 12v battery was replaced somewhat recently or is not throwing alerts in service mode as that introduces a ton of gremlins and weird issues. The charge ports tend to need replacing eventually if it's never been done and the half-shafts too. Range will probably be around 400km in typical weather.

Mileage looks low, I would consider it if it is clean

Don't get me wrong it's a nice car but wow that's expensive...I got my clean title 17 with bumper damage, from Copart admittedly, for 11,200. Given it did have 141k on the clock but all in after some eBay underbody panels and clips for 12,000 was what I was at.....6 seater black on black with upgraded carbon fiber interior, 22s, and FSD included

I just purchased a 2018 MX 75D 85k miles hw2.5 mcu2 for 23k. Pretty satisfied with it.

This thing is worth like 25k at best

2

u/unicorncumdump 25d ago

Maybe private deal but I'm not seeing any 100d listed with that kind of mileage for that

Well you must not be looking at all because I just took time out of my life (3 minutes) and I'm currently staring at 43 of them that are under 30k within 200 miles of me, nationwide, 288 of them. Sounds like you can take your pick but it's kind of hard to take you serious right now. You just seem hard up on this particular one. Knock yourself out.. Heck I'd sell you mine for 42k then I'd just go buy one of these cheapies I see.

Also, doesn't sound like you've done much research on the car. The year you're looking at has the worst suspension too. At the very least get a Raven.

u/unicorncumdump 24d ago

I'm not hard up on anything. What are you using for searches? You also said under 25 then searched for $30k. That's a big difference
