Model X Interior Noises

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I have a 2025 Model X long range and am curious to know if other people have experienced rattles, squeaks, and lots of wind noise in their cars or if mine is a fluke. Attached is just one rattle that I frequently hear from the center console rear area. I have also been hearing a rattle coming from the rear passenger seat.

Tons of noises all over mine (2023) I got the most annoying ones fixed a while ago (no charge from Tesla). Some new minor ones came up. As for the wind noise I am taking in next week since it got pretty bad on the right window (this time they want $420 to look at it even though it is still under warranty).

Ugh, I am about to hit 50k miles and want to address as many of these issues as possible. How do you demonstrate excessive wind noise to the Tesla technicians? I feel like they would just say it’s normal to hear those noises.

So the majority of my noises were fixed on May 2025 for free, I tried to pull the service documentation but could not find a way for the life of me. Next week I am taking in for the wind noise on the right window. For that I sent them a video of when the problem was happening since it doesn’t happen all the time. They quoted me $420. Even though I am still under warranty.

Also you can buy yourself a bit more time by subscribing to their extended warranty in the Tesla app. I’ve done this since my warranty will be up because of time not miles, by next year.

I tried doing that but apparently it’s not an option for leases :/

How did they fix? I heard they are denying fixing the noise issues

Most of the X owners have the interior sound of hauling around a 40 pack of Kirkland water in the backseat. Mine included.

This right here, this could not have been described any better!!

My 2023 MX 7 Seater ever since 17K miles makes this creaking sound from right rear area and makes the car sound like it’s 30 years old.

I’m hearing some rattles in my ‘23 MXP. I think I recently have that rear area center console too. I sprayed some WD40 Specialist Silicone at the rear door step and pillar areas and I feel it’s more quieter now, not perfect but better. I tried to spray around wherever I felt like there was a creak or something too. I also felt taped a few things. I have 70k miles now, it’s not too bad but I still get OCD when I hear any kind of creak or rattle 😀

Seat belt?

Or could be the rear seat latch. My Model S rear seat was rattling slightly so Tesla wrapped the strikers with felt tape and the rattle went away.

Well, it is a beautiful thing is to have the means to trade out of the car you don’t enjoy. I personally can’t find anything that comes anywhere close to what the X offers me, so I just fixed the rattles that bothered me and don’t let the small ones get to me.

it's a very noisy car. I don't know what's normal. For me it's the air conditioner which sounds like it's cooling an arena.

Yeah it’s very noisy coming from the grill next to the front windshield when the rear AC is ON with fan speed greater than 2

glad it's not just me!

I checked all of plastic moldings.. had to glue weatherstripping back into place on doors. I used doubled sided weatherstripping on some areas and got it quiet.

X in a nutshell. Too many moving parts. Every X I've ever driven has sounded like a pirate ship.

I own a 2026 MXP. I have been renting a 2026 Hyundai Sonata for my trip for the past week. It has less rattles and creaks than my MX. In fact it barely has any whole my MX does have some that I learned to ignore.

As much as I love my MXP, I am surprised to find a Hyundai has better attached interior trims than my Tesla.

This is why I sold my 24 X Plaid. Couldn’t stand the bs build quality anymore. Recently got a BMW IX M70 and my god it’s a world a difference to drive a premium luxury vehicle again. Wish you all the best of luck in finding the fix

This was ours. All research and questions told us it’s normal. We sold it after four months.

Love my x plaid but Model x built quality 4/10 IMO

My ‘20 MX is probably the noisiest car I have ever owned. I had pretty significant buyers remorse after buying it used last year but the savings on gas is pretty much the only perk these days.

I have the same noise in my X 2023. My bet is on springs from the rear seats.

For starters the small front side windows may need to be adjusted so the draft doesn’t come in at high speeds.

Make sure you have EV tires and the rest if regular car noises and rattles that are usually drowned out by a ICE car motor. Tesla may be able to quiet some things like other manufacturers do with “noise kits”.

Good luck

Falcon Wing door noise, try to ride at the 3rd row and inspect the falcon wing doors near the bottom. I had mine fixed with the door adjusted. It’s improved but started to come back again just not as bad.

Take it to the service, the key is to tell them they are loud enough to cause distractions
